Don't agree with stopping them from posting, as that's just censoring peoples opinions. Only reason someone shouldn't be able to post is because they have been banned.
But I do think we should have an option to not see the posts ourselves by default, if we are really that fed up with the person. Just have it say "X-person posted here" with the option to show the post if you want to see it. Could also have the same posts hidden in quotes, just say "X-person said" with the option to click to see it.
At least that way you don't find yourself infuriated by just reading through a thread.
It's NOT censoring - just hiding them optionally for ANYONE that doesn't want to see their posts. "Hide ALL posts from this user."
They can still post, but now at least, everybody can dump their crap off their cache for other people who may actually have worthwhile perspectives. Some people are spam incarnate.

Thus, why a block feature would be great. They just spam up all your posts with their ilk, and nobody ELSE wants to read that crap on YOUR threads either.
Once again, theres nothing stopping you from just not reading what ppl say but ppl have every right to have their posts seen by everyone.
Just because you cbb to ignore, isnt a reason for this to happen.

Uhh, thats literally what censoring is.
I mean ppl can still post swear words in ingame chat but for those with filter on, they wont see it.

Blocking doesn't work! Can still be viewed without logging in or logging in on an alt!
So your thread is still open for the annoying rats!
There will be "workarounds", sure. But there's a limit to how annoying some people want to actually be. They'd have to make new characters altogether, play the game enough to be permitted to post, etc. A total fix-all would take refined effort over time. Starting to implement such features is a start however. I have to laugh at times - JAGeX has for years been "anti-bullying/mental health aware" and yet they have the hugest problems within their social structure causing much distress.

Thus you're still censoring ppl.
No, dude, learn - censorship is keeping word from getting out - this is people muting people AFTER the fact of having already been infected/in contact or otherwise seen it. THEY decide for themselves once the have. The initial message is still going to be there.
In essence, be a dink - people will block your worthless posts, and by and by, if you have no legitimacy, you'll just basically censor yourself as you have noting of value to contribute. Of course, I say this as a generalized hypothetical explanation as how it'd work.

We'll get a user block on the forums when the forums get updated. How can we convince jagex to help the forum community in this way?
Only by suing in court, probably.

If the forums could be updated
to read your ignore list and hide any threads or posts authored by someone on that list, it would be a pretty elegant solution. It's not necessary and probably preferred to not change the placeholder text for hidden threads/posts, but perhaps also modify the placeholder text to read "This thread has been hidden by your ignore list" or "The contents of this message have been hidden by your ignore list".
I don't think it would. I have plenty of people on ignore in-game whom I do not mind conversing with on the forums, and vice-versa. Some are just banned from my friends chats for reasons and are otherwise no issue elsewhere. In-game and here are two different arenas.

So if I was to forum block anyone, which I'm never likely to do, what's to stop anyone else quoting the said blocked person? It means I'd still see the posts.
Blocking is fine in theory but in practice very hard to implement.
Yeah, that'd be the difficult bit. Then again, if someone quoted a player the "old fashioned way" by just copying and pasting text into the post, then there's nothing you can do.
I'd say if someone quoted, let it stay because you might need that quote for context of their reponse. If the quote is directed abuse to the ignored user, it could still be reported to Forum Help with the quote ID.
I'm not sure most people would quote anyone, based on the desire those posts be "hidden" from view. The entire premise is they hold no merit, so why would anyone else want to repeat them? I mean, typically they wouldn't. Sometimes, perhaps, but not usually. They'd typically be in agreement with "you" and not want to have read them themselves either. Hope that made sense.

Support. This would not only help enforce the Jagex code of conduct suggestion "If you spot a thread where you disagree with the poster's opinion, rather than argue with them across multiple pages of their thread consider creating a new thread with your own opinion."
but also help keep threads more tidy, stop harassment and trolling, and reduce the need for moderator intervention.
Please do this, Jagex.
Please.
Uhh, whats so hard about using FH for ppl who are breaking the rules?
Lets the J/Fmods do what they are meant to be doing and not take the law into your own hands.
Because CLEARLY certain people circumvent the rules by using snide commentary that technically doesn't break "rules", but still constitutes harassment, stalking, bullying laws IN REALITY.
