All fired up could be interesting if free players were given limited access to the activity itself, allowing them at least to earn the ring, albeit a lot of beacons have secondary requirements locked behind other p2p features. Without the activity, it's basically 'Impressing the Locals' all over again.

Rag and Bone man is a no brainer. The other quests I already got covered in my expansions suggestions - or outright like recruitment drive alongside the buffed initiate armour.

Family Crest is the most important one actually. Not only does it have loads of grandious features with the various gauntlets, it currently also allows former members, that have completed the quest to use the gold/silver storage in their ore box and the furnace. Since I neither want to take that ability away from them, nor devalue the quest itself, reworking it would be the only option actually.

The fact that high level content is in low level areas. Is something I really like about this game.

Taverley Dungeon is high level area, that a new player with membership can also enter and die.
The f2p game also has level 42 wolves with multi-combat on the mountain, which can easily kill noobs. (It was my 1st death on FSW with only a few mins of play time)

It's very easy to die in Tutorial Area both as a member and f2p.

Warrior's Guild is f2p place, it gives the player a goal to become strong. That place does serve no purpose to the f2p game.

The game does tell you when you're leaving the Tutorial Area. (What is the welcome bear trope)

At the moment Jagex is looking at Heroes' Quest and trying to lower the requirements, perfect time to make that quest f2p while they are doing that.
Once the new quest requirement are in-game. Then it would be best to talk about how this quest can be done on a f2p game

Tai Bwo Wannai Trio, requires the player to create and use a poison weapon. You will need to make Poison F2p. Which at the moment wouldn't help the f2p game. The Agility Potion is a big issue.

About the Trolls, that was the reason why I think goblin quest series is a better one to go for, as the big f2p quest series.

Sorry for brining up Agility, I was responding to Seasons Past about Trolls quest in the f2p game and how the Agility requirement will be an issue.
I still think, It will be the 1st members skill which f2p can reach level 20.

Impressing the locals gives f2p access to a wildy teleport. It's a pretty big buff for the f2p endgame. Getting to the Chaos Elemental, is now much easier. Yes there is War Retreat.

F2p need high level Firemaking for the Explorer's ring 4. All Fired up, helps gets the player to the high Firemaking levels.

You don't need to do the Activity to enjoy the quest, this is true on the members game.

Family Crest, is an interesting quests to make f2p. I believe it got a sequel in OSRS, I would like to know how OSRS handle that?

In general I do not really see an issue with high(er) levelled features in lower levelled zones. But likewise it shouldn't be an issue if things are p2p. They can always check what benefit would f2p get from making it f2p and how feasible it is to do. Obviously something free players would engage with for extended amount of times are better than short one-off things, they'll do and just forget about it.

Technically members need to play through the warrior's guild to receive a dragon defender in order to receive higher levelled defensive weapons. But yeah - rest of the guild is more interesting to free players.

That with quests isn't exactly right. They're not lowering the requirements for the sake of it, they're getting rid of requirements, that either make no sense at all (old quest often get random stuff bumped onto them with no relation to the quest at all - basically the only things that should be required are the abilties you need within that quest or the story that is continued in that) or got outdated over time (i.e. heroes' quest has a druid ritual lock, since this was outright required to access the herblore skill in the first place - that's literally the reason why this quest is getting kicked out of most quests it's featured on - it made sense up to 2012, but never again after that)

Following my expansion suggestions free players would encounter poison much earlier - with the lumbridge swamp caves. That doesn't mean they would themselves be able to poison something, but the mechanic for them to encounter is there. As for the poisoned spears there is a nasty bug in place ever since the EoC, which disallows you to use them. You only can clean them to have them usable and tradeable again. Creating the poisoned spear would be no issue at all. There is no herblore involved - you only grind a poisonous karambwan - which requires fishing and cooking, no herblore. But you need an agility potion, which could be introduced via a spawn somewhere...

I guess you're refering to the elite dungeon chest teleport - via shadow reef and dragonkin labratory. That would imply they'd give you access to said chest. Is this a feature available to former members...? If not, I certainly also wouldn't at that point - there is no chance, that elite dungeons would ever become free content (unless they literally abolish membership and start to financing themselves via MTX exclusively - which they obviously haven't up to that point). It outright would be more feasible to give you just access to the obelisk teleport system. Considering you do not need to earn the ability to use it, it just could be f2p. You obviously wouldn't be able to use the distinct teleport, since that's locked behind the wildy 3 tasks. If absolutely desperate they could sell ED2 and 3 teletabs.

As for All Fired Up - yeah sure. The quest itself can be enjoyed without the activity. But that's just some keeping players 15 minutes busy and creating a big "you need to be a member to this". That's what I mean with the value of those things.

The family crest sequel is basically a slightly more elegant version of our 'go to each brother, pay them 1m and be able to claim as many gloves as you like from them'. It's literally the same, but got a bit of story attached to it - giving you a big ouf to that family as a whole. The quest per se wouldn't work as is in RS3 due to the father's involvement in later quests - but in general it's just some gold sink mainly - OS does that "pray some bigger amount of money at once, so you do no longer have to pay for continous use" fairly often - just usually without a miniquest attached to it.

As for the welcome bear: https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Welcome_Bear

It doesn't need to be a bear exactly, but could be anything much stronger than you, you could bump into, when running into the wrong direction from low level areas. Those in World of Warcraft just were extremely notorious, since most starting level zones have 50+ zones next to them - modern one hasn't the issue to that degree, since most things scale to your level up to an extent and show you the intended level for you to be in that zone.

But RS certainly had had a few of those as well - those wolves, dark wizards, draynor prison guards, even some mugger in varrock or edgeville - everything that could lead to your untimely demise if you're not careful. Obviously also less nowadays than back in the day.

@Shaydesshadow - You made a point with that achievement diary requirement - albeit you already got punished by needing 70 instead of 60 woodcutting now - and expect the same to happen with firemaking eventually. But let's be real, they quickly came up with 4 new comparable tasks when the lumber yard was removed in favour of fort forinthry a few months ago, so I hardly expect they would lock you out of your diary reward for too long (if at all). And if it's just changing both tasks to acadia.

Well, I wasn't actually punished, since my WC level is well above level 70 already. Really, the only players who got punished were the ones with a WC level in the 60s. They lost the ability to chop yews. Even so, they wouldn't have too far too go in order to reach level 70. Sure, it gives lower-levels a bit more to work towards, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

As a side note, is it just me or are yews respawning a little faster now than they did before the update? I haven't timed this myself. It just seems like the wait time is less now.
Original message details are unavailable.
And yeah - I literally suggested access to that al kharid dungeon back then myself. Not because I thought it would be an ideal solution (and we had had discussions due to its level back then in here), but it was the easiest way to give free players access to semi precious gems (instead of adding them somewhere else) for that fancy new silver jewellery they added shortly before. Not even remotely needed nowadays, since they extended the burthope mine a few years later - which certainly was more elegant. Does it need to removed because of this - nope. It's not like it would tease you something you can't reasonably use anyway - while you just can't mine the ores or catch the imp

Burthorpe mine has precious gem rocks now? It has been some time since I was last there.

I'm all in favor of what I think of as "F2P endgame" content. As an example, I remember t40/50 fish being suggested as an addition to Het's Oasis, so that F2P players would be able to utilize the area and have higher-level Fishing content to work towards.

While a lot of people are entitled and also enabled by social media, in practice the F2P game has been expanded over the years, very much in spite of the idiots who want to shut down F2P and force all new players to leave and not even join in the first place. Fletching used to be P2P but was opened to F2P a few years ago (back when Mod Osborne was lead designer);

(As an aside, the irl resource cost to sustain supremely stupid technologies like AI and social media is laughably unsustainable. The social media morons' "culture" will wipe itself out within our natural lifespan.)

I don't think level 70 is at all an unreasonable goal for F2P to reach. On my first account, I remember getting my highest stat up to the 80s before I finally got membership. Coincidentally, that skill happened to be Woodcutting, which was a reasonable money-maker back then.

One thing to note is that F2P can't use the orichalcite rocks within the Mining Guild, even though those who enter the guild meet the level requirement. There are similar cases for other resources - such as drakolith, necrite, and banite rocks, all of which can be found in the Wilderness (which has been nearly fully opened to F2P).

I think I know what you mean. I just never cared for the term "endgame". To me, it suggests the game is over, and I need to find a new game. I p;refer "high-end" content, but for the most part this is just wordplay.

I do agree it would be nice for there to be something for F2P to do at Het's Oasis. Lately, there has been too much P2P-only content dumped into F2P. It makes the free game feel more like a series of member adverts. It is not. nor should it be treated as such.

Yes, lots of players want to shut down f2p forever, for some reason they hate the f2p game, with a passion. They don't even want Ex-members to play f2p.

Look, we can call those players social media idiots. But we do need them to attract new players into the game. We can't be mean to them.

True that no goal is unreasonable in f2p. You can go max f2p.
However those goals should look reasonable to new players.
70 WC (+60 FM) is needed for the best ring in the f2p game, at the moment f2p needs trees to help them get to that level.

Some members are too full of themselves. They think they are some sort of higher form of life simply because they (or their parents) give Jagex $12 a month or whatever it is for membership. Why do they hate on F2P? Maybe because they want to forget they ever were F2P. Who knows for sure, and really it is unimportant.

At least not every member acts like an entitled elitist with an overinflated sense of self-importance. Some members are actually decent, pleasant people who understand having F2P be a fun experience does not harm RuneScape - it actually helps it.

Some member noobs even believe F2P is just a demo. lol

Yeah more in a sense, that this task ended up worse than it historically was. Obviously it doesn't affect anybody who completed it before being changed. Obviously also not if you already got the new requirements.

It can go in either direction - sometimes the replacement is more liberal to do, sometimes it's outright easier (basically each and every smithing task following the m&s rework), sometimes it's more difficult to do or has higher requirements. It probably isn't even that much of a nerf, since the levelling flow of woodcutting is much better than before, but especially as a free player who still lacks a t50 tree it might take longer to do those additional 10 levels.

It wasn't mentioned in the patch notes, but all trees (with exception of elders with their special mechanics) now respawn with the same speed. Wasn't certainly their worst idea, but it probably would have helped more to adress the random 1/8 chance to kill the tree with each cut or that pseudo competetiveness.

Burthope mine was expanded in 2021 to feature common gem, silver and iron rocks.

Het's Oasis is generally rather curious. Obviously the duel arena was located in the free area of the game, but the replacement was too focused on members alone - albeit the only thing that could be f2p with the current rule set could be plain scarab hunting, with a level 20 extension the first flower and the second scarab.

But yeah - said it back then they easily could have made desert soles f2p - and by now they also could add teak and/or acadia trees in there. Two birds, one stone.

I wouldn't get that much ahead of yourself though. Free content (not in terms of RS, but rather in general) on the internet isn't as plenty as it was just a few years ago and will probably even more on the decline in the near future. Lots of stuff is getting more and more paywalled, despite it having been (partially) available for free in the past.

News pages, streaming services - even frikking twitter most recently - you name it. I mean they say for a lot of those services, if it's free, you're the product - so in the end you're paying in some different way - and even those things are getting paywalled by now.

But well - in general there is nothing wrong to monetarily support the things you enjoy. Without membership this game wouldn't exist anymore and you wouldn't have been able to put on this statement. Obviously Jagex' focus should be lying on keeping their paying customers happy, even though there certainly are some rather 'special' specimens out there. It's obviously just out of spite, when they speak out against minor content additions, they had played one and a half decades ago - or outright QoL, which could have benefited even them earlier in their progressions. But yeah - 'how' to put this is important. This can be valid feedback, if correctly presented.

I think f2p RS is an interesting case for that matter - it can keep you occupied literally forever. But most of the time you're repeating the very same things over and over and over again - and not even the more interesting ones for that matter. The one time things to do are really not plenty - and that's where this demo thought may come from. Was cutting the very same willow trees from 30 all the way up to 99 (and beyond) actual content? It obviously is something you could have done, but does that make it content?
