I mean as they've expanded the f2p core equipment cap once, it's entirely possible they could do that again. Of course that one back in 2012 was done in order to accommodate the 'special' (starts alone with bronze and iron both having been tier 1 stuff) tiering of metal equipment back in the day - but obviously they had more than enough melee sets, since they even could fit black/white between two main tiers - both were t10 initially - it only gave access to new equipment since the other two styles weren't as well fitted. With magic equipment not even really a thing for low levelled members - they basically also just had had wizard and sometimes later mystic. Otherwise some loose collection of things you can get from wherever.

A new expansion would be more complex. Of course they could start tagging t60 (as in actual 60 stuff - orikalkum, not pre rework mithril) as f2p, since most of the things just already exist in the free world (albeit magic would once again become more troublesome) - but why should they...? It obviously would need some kind of content coming with it expecting you to use that new stuff. And that's generally rather unlikely for them to do.

I get what your saying about the T50 "cut-off", Rikornak, but this is more of a guideline than a hard rule.

Agreed.

Access to the Mining Guild requires level 60 Mining, while access to the Dungeoneering resource dungeon in Al Kharid requires level 75 Dungeoneering, Will members also advocate to make these areas P2P-exclusive since they both include member content?

Original message details are unavailable.
Some rebalancing may be in order. Generally speaking, it will not be the worst thing for RuneScape if free players are allowed access to a little bit of higher-end content, provided they have the skill levels, of course.

I remember when 85 Mining was needed to mine runite ores. Hell, 70 Mining was needed for Adamantite ores. So no, level 70 Woodcutting is not some outrageous goal for F2P to reach.

Historically, we F2P have had a small minority of higher-level content to look forward to, and to work towards. Yet entitled members seem to always want F2P to have less and less content to enjoy. Why should we not have a few nice things?

Well said, my friend.

F2P gains were never capped at level 50 across all F2P skills uniformly, and I doubt they ever will be. More importantly, I see no good reason why they should be.

Yet another example is Prayer. At Prayer level 70, we can bless someone's gravestone, which I have done before. Plus, those Prayer Points can come in handy.

There is certainly no good reason to force the Mining & Smithing tiering system on every other skill. It should also be stressed that F2P gained access to new items, without losing access to any, with the M&S rework. We could also mine addy and runite at greatly reduced skill levels. The Woodcutting update has been a mixed blessing, but so far no real losses for free players.

In order to ensure existing Woodcutting spots would retain their value on F2P worlds, here are some proposed changes to trees in F2P areas:

Al Kharid
-Add acadia trees around the small oasis north of the city gates
-Add acadia trees to the Garden of Kharid and in spaces north of Het's Oasis

Mage Training Arena
-Add teak and acadia trees to complement the magic trees

Lumbridge
-Replace the lone yew tree behind the church with a grove of teak trees, as it's near a warm, tropical-esque estuary
-Add maple trees to join the yew trees west of the market

Varrock
-Add maple trees south and northeast of the city, interspersed with the yews
-Add maple trees at Varrock Palace, to complement the yews
-Replace the lone yew tree by the museum with a maple grove

Edgeville
-Add maple trees among the yews in the ruins

Falador
-Add maple trees south of the city, to complement the yews and elder
-Replace the willows along the coast east of the city (near the Crafting Guild and Dark Wizard's Tower) with teak trees

Port Sarim
-Add maple trees alongside the yews by the path to the north
-Replace the willows along the coast to the southwest with teaks

Rimmington
-Add teak trees throughout the area, to complement the yews and elder

These are some nice, well-thought-out ideas. I especially like your thoughts on improving Al Kharid. These additions would give F2P reasons to visit these currently pointless areas.

However, I stand by what I said before. T30 and T50 trees simply are not comparable to T60/T70 trees. XP/hour rates don't really matter a whole lot if you're not chopping logs for hours. If you're just gathering an inventory or two of logs, or even just cutting 10 to complete a Daily Challenge, there is no question you will earn more XP chopping the higher-tiered logs. To me, this is more valuable than the handful of seconds I might save by chopping the lower-tiered trees. This might not be best for lower-level players.

As for making Yew trees p2p.

What do you do about the Hard Lumbridge achievement, Are Yew As Fired Up As I Am?

This requires the player to burn a yew log on the east gatehouse of Lumbridge Castle.

The best way to get a yew log is to get 70 WC. (You can get logs from some drops)

As the achievement is required for the best ring in the f2p game.

I do see F2p grinding to 70 WC and 60 FM.

I'm all in favor of what I think of as "F2P endgame" content. As an example, I remember t40/50 fish being suggested as an addition to Het's Oasis, so that F2P players would be able to utilize the area and have higher-level Fishing content to work towards.

While a lot of people are entitled and also enabled by social media, in practice the F2P game has been expanded over the years, very much in spite of the idiots who want to shut down F2P and force all new players to leave and not even join in the first place.

Absolutely spot on!

(As an aside, the irl resource cost to sustain supremely stupid technologies like AI and social media is laughably unsustainable. The social media morons' "culture" will wipe itself out within our natural lifespan.)

I couldn't agree more. Their collapse cannot come soon enough for me. As I like to say, their AI is all A and no I. :P

I don't think level 70 is at all an unreasonable goal for F2P to reach. On my first account, I remember getting my highest stat up to the 80s before I finally got membership. Coincidentally, that skill happened to be Woodcutting, which was a reasonable money-maker back then.

One thing to note is that F2P can't use the orichalcite rocks within the Mining Guild, even though those who enter the guild meet the level requirement. There are similar cases for other resources - such as drakolith, necrite, and banite rocks, all of which can be found in the Wilderness (which has been nearly fully opened to F2P).

I don't consider any goal F2P can reach to be unreasonable. Of the 17 F2P skills, I have 6 of them at 99 or better. The other 11 are at level 98.

My goal is to be a maxed F2P pure.

Yes, lots of players want to shut down f2p forever, for some reason they hate the f2p game, with a passion. They don't even want Ex-members to play f2p.

Look, we can call those players social media idiots. But we do need them to attract new players into the game. We can't be mean to them.

True that no goal is unreasonable in f2p. You can go max f2p.
However those goals should look reasonable to new players.
70 WC (+60 FM) is needed for the best ring in the f2p game, at the moment f2p needs trees to help them get to that level.

It is not about those things being possible - you just end up being 99, 120 or 200m xp eventually - it is about those things being reasonable to reach. You basically wrote in your signature you're playing the game for over 18 years. 18. Years. There are players nowadays younger than this.

That things do work up with a bit of effort to some point - which certainly is neither 50, nor 99, but somewhere in between - is nothing that should be discussed - but let's be real: A lot of players - especially new ones - are not super fond of repeating the very same things for hundreds and thousands of hours. If it's just for prestige, that is more than fine - but if guys like you would want to start locking features behind that - especially necessary features, that do not even remotely equal the effort - we literally still would be stuck back then in what the game was like in RSC. I mean it is roughly on the level more enforcing virtual 120s, instead of making actual 120s with adequate features out of them. Yeah - I got a master max cape - yet I still do not think it should have been something to encourage for now .

I genuinely would want to ask how you endured the mining/smithing rework, when it literally did the same thing, except for not renaming certain metals. Was is that harsh runite was changed to something to work with from 50-59 rather than 85-99 in order to get your t50 gear? Or was it actually fine? The very same thing with certain other artisan related features that were brought to what things are supposed to be together with an improved new player experience. That Jagex basically no longer releases new artisan things as off, as that old crap? That are things Jagex basically always did the last decade.

Is your issue literally that your t40 tree would actually be cutable with level 40, instead of 60/70 and be named maple instead of yew? Would Jagex have solved all your gripes if they just had brought down yew to 40, like they did with the metals?

Or is about that sense of 'prestige' things from RSC just have attached, which made them as broken as they are on so many different levels? So you could feel bigger than you are, things have to remain broken forever? Some players have opposed the M&S rework just for this after all. I am honest - this stance is as detrimental for the growth of the game, as the one of those jokers who state f2p got enough and players should pay if they want a good game, since it will show new players likewise that f2p sucks - and for them in conclusion the entire game.

Not even the OS devs and lot of their players think it's a great system - but those literally can't change anything about that without affecting the wilderness balance - which is outright the excuse for denying any change or the introduction of cool new things - most recently their proposed second prayer book. We can in here though. We already have in the past. And we should in the future.

And yeah sure you can go on and grab and post some more random post 50 f2p things, that may or may not have fulfilled some reason the in the past or right now. I have suggested them myself in past and present - but to enrich the game, not for things to be f2p out of some wrong sense of prestige or just without any reason at all. When have you blessed your last grave stone after all? For me it was two death reworks ago. But since then most players just go and grab their things from death.

Once again - it's is totally fine for things being higher than 50 and f2p. But please real things then, actually fulfilling purpose both for the game itself and adequacy to come to - not some overinflated crap or stuff that's just not for you. Use a bit common sense in here.

And they have removed access to things in the past. T75 variant of warpriest armour was usable for years and it was highly demanded by free players to have that removed - mainly, but not solely due to it being discontinued. They capped it out... at the T50 variant while on free worlds.

As written on the last page. Jagex replaces those tasks by something comparable.

If they wouldn't the vast majority of diaries would be broken by now. You don't need to lead a cat down into the sarim rat pits, you don't need to defeat a desert strykewyrm with some enchanted helm, you don't need to complete a sawmill contract - you couldn't even, since neither of these things exist anymore - and there probably are even more things adjusted to a more modern game - or replaced by something entirely different.

The worst thing that could happen is the task being broken for a week or two, but at least for those four things related to the sawmill - they instantly got replaced by new and comparable things all over varrock. For yew related tasks they wouldn't even need to think of something new - they swap it out against the new top tiered wood and done.

I think you're right to point out that having an opinion alone doesn't give me the moral high ground. I absolutely agree that it's counterproductive to intentionally alienate and exclude those who don't agree with our beliefs. What I meant to express is not that everyone who has ever used those platforms is bad for having done so. It's pretty difficult to boycott all of them and probably not a priority for most people. I meant that continuing to design and maintain social spaces where the most aggressive views inevitably dominate is not beneficial for us as a species. I could and should have stated my opinion more carefully.

I do think it's important for goals to look realistic from the outset. 70 seems within reach for newcomers who are enjoying the game. The question is where the line should be drawn.
