But it's NOT a 22 y/o game - it's a long, long way from its earliest iterations, and is continuing to evolve.

Also in most other MMOs you hit max level in no time. After playing for a week or so, you are maxed out, have the best gear, and there is really not more to play for. They simply don't last like RS3 does.

That's the point of those games, you're only supposed to play the early levels to learn how to control your character and the game doesn't really begin until you hit max level because they are all and only about raiding and pvp'ing.

Agreed on RS3 continues to evolve and become better year after year, but disagreed it is NOT a 22 y/o game.

RS3 is old. It is an old 22 y/o game, but it continues to evolve and become better as it gets older, similar to how Rocky Balboa only gets better when he gets older. Rocky evolves his fighting styles against different opponents. Physically, Rocky is old and don't really measure up with younger opponents, but experience and his unique inner powers other younger and powerful opponents can't copy make him an old legend. Likewise, RS3 evolves with its unique episodic story telling styles they built up for 15 years. No cookie cutter MMORPG can copy 15 years of original and unique IP.

I play still for reasons other have posted on this thread already: the variety. That and because I've played it for so long, I don't want to give up on the progress I've made.

I've played console games, mobile games, other games, and its the linear path of story modes or the cyclical nature of the replay-ability modes that just get boring after a while.

For instance, I love the Halo series, but after you do the campaign, it loses its appeal because you already know what's about to happen and nothing changes. Multiplayer gets boring b/c it's repetitive. Sure the gameplay is never the same, but its the same stuff still.

RS3, there's so many things to do, its not the same stuff over and over. Today I can work on x skill to whatever achievement level, tomorrow I could go do something to work on the salty title, do this, do that, its always diff. And by the time I get close to finishing something, more content comes out to work on over time.

My lack of enjoyment in combat has locked me out of a lot of stuff also (just due to not being comfortable with combat...gotta learn the stuff to be more comfortable), that maybe as I get more better at doing pvm...there will be a lot more things to do also eventually.
Can I turn in a paper without citing all sources?

I guess the reason I still play, for me personally, is the depth, scope, uniqueness, and independence which RuneScape has, there are very few games like it, some may imitate certain facets of the game, but they never manage to exude the overall charm of RuneScape. I also feel that RuneScape's successful perseverance lies largely in its inspirations, the Gower brothers had a passion for other RPGs and fantasy games, and wove those various elements into rs, and it's these subtleties, nuances, and intricacies which you appreciate when you delve into the game

Don't get me wrong, RuneScape boasts conspicuous flaws: jarring and contrasting graphics, unpleasant doses of MTX, an awkwardly strewn combat system, and at times the game feels cluttered and astray; but one thing it has done wonderfully well is build a solid foundation to work with, which can be refined without drastically altering the game and mutating it into something different. I think, and this is my personal view, that despite the overwhelming popularity of other MMOs like Final Fantasy and WoW, RuneScape manages to do something those games don't, and that's retain the spiritual purity of a traditional MMORPG

That's where people are different. To me a game ends when I hit max level. It is all about the journey, not the destination.

I would agree. There's a reason I'm here and not there.
