the game doesn't really begin until you hit max level

That's where people are different. To me a game ends when I hit max level. It is all about the journey, not the destination.

OK. So if they change max level of every skill to level 120, then you will have a longer journey to enjoy. Essentially, the journey can be endless.

Indeed. I would like all skills to go to 120, especially if there were new things to gather and make for each level. I currently have 10 skills at level 99, which stops at level 99, and it feels like those skills are over. I don't really use them anymore. The game is slowly coming to an end.

Hardly will the game come to an end even if there is no level 120 skill. Remember, The new Necromancy skill is around the corner. You can soon embark into a new journey all the way from level 1.

Raising level cap and adding new training methods are also in considerations according to Mod MIC:

"MC: We also have to consider the overall balance of the game – I mean if we only worked on new skills it could get too confusing or might lead to longer gaps between key updates. We are always looking for new and inventive ways to keep RuneScape fans coming back for more so sometimes we’ll go back and polish older skills (like the 2019 Mining & Smithing rework) increase level caps or add new training methods to existing skills."

Ok, perhaps not come to an end, more like being put on hold until new skills or level caps are introduced. What I mean is that when all of my skills are maxed, I am sure I won't play anymore, that is until things are changed so my skills are no longer maxed.

I know there are things in the game you can only really begin to enjoy once you are at max level, like high level bosses, and for some people, that is where the game begins, but that is not for me.

And I am glad to hear that they are thinking about raising level caps. :-)

To me really new content is more important than new skill or new level cap. Any game can raise their level cap, but if they don't have refreshing content, it doesn't do anything. Likewise a new skill which has nothing new to play for, it is also as good as nothing.

Skills like Archaoelogy is good because it has all kinds of new stories and new content seamlessly fitting to existing content we have been enjoying for over a decade. Archaeology is good because it is a well designed classic MMORPG style expansion, not just something RS3 called "skill" but in reality didn't even know when they wanted to put there when they started the design aimlessly. I don't doubt even if Archaeology was an expansion instead of a skill of 120 levels, it would still be equally great to most players.

That said, I am glad RS3 Jmods said Necromancy is designed with the same methodology as Archaeology. It will be great to see if Necromancy comes up as a classic MMORPG expansion like Archaeology instead of just a themeless "skill" made up of different unrelated game features.

As for expanding the max level cap to 120, I can see combat skills may be the next in the agenda.

As I mentioned, this year is the Year of Combat to RS3. They probably have plans on combat after Necromancy, so not now but perhaps we will have to wait a bit until the 2nd of of the year. If they have plenty of fresh combat content, especially new ways for us to enjoy combat... like the long awaited 0.3s Tick system, coupled with mechanics, new bosses and even better remastered old bosses too, then the hell yes... it is time for combat skill caps to level 120.

I dont play that much, i used to be addicted from 2006-2011. Played off and on from 2011-2014. Since 2014 i just log in from time to time to get a flash back to the old days, think about the memories i had with my childhood friends and clan.. Man i miss the year 2007, runescape on one tab, myspace on the other, with limewire blasting in the backround listening to teenage dirtbag by wheatus and 90s hip hop. looool.. take me back!!!

I play for several reasons. One that stands out for me is I love social interaction and Runescape for me does it best. The community is full of so many different people, every day is interesting and fresh because of it. I've made some great friends along the way :)

Most RPG games have linear character progression. Grinding so many skills probably don't make RS3 appealing. Fortunately, the game has much faster xp rates for all skills now and we can train the skills only we want to and use xp lamps we earn from numerous sources for skills we hate. We also have Nick to transfer bxp to other skills.

A lot of video games have skill trees but no progression on individual skills. We earn skill points and apply them to skills at our own discretion to build our characters our own way. Essentially, xp lamps and Nick are our skill points equivalence to other games with the skill tree mechanism. It is pretty cool actually and I don't doubt it makes RS3 more appealing and easier to pick up to plenty of players who come from other RPG games.

Flexibility of progression negates a big part of the unwanted grinding in RS3. It is also a reason why it lasts longer than most RPGs, and should remain so for many years to come down the road.

If i had to be brutally honest...

Runescapes gameplay does not interest me.

Runescapes graphics don't interest me.

Runescapes Lore holds no interest to me.

Runescapes addictive hold has no grip on me.

You wanna know why i still play this 22 year old RS3 version of a game which ruled my life for many many years and then decided to shit on me and try to bully me " which btw, they lost obviously" cos i'm still here, even after many glorious attempts to shut me the fuck up lol.

1% of the reason i still play is down to my refusal to ever fully leave haha.

But the other 99% is because i can't not have some of the friends i have met over the years in my life, even if its just a pissed hello once a week, that means more to me than anything Runescape ever meant even when i actually liked Jagex haha "from March 2008 until 26th May 2015 - 11:36ish am" not that i'm trying to remember lol

Much love
