I've not stated that anyone is dumb (and it's never my intention to), I'm simply saying that some are having some real difficulty in separating between whether they agree with it/like it and what's only within a clan's own rights.

People do own their clans and have the right to dictate entry to them and their chats in whatever way they see fit. It has nothing at all to do with a superiority complex or elitism, and that line of thought is very misleading. My clan is P2P focused and based, and even though they can't participate with us in-game, we allow F2P players to guest, join and socialise with us as they can massively benefit off of our experience and vice versa. While I personally might not like or disagree with people blocking off F2P players from their P2P only clans, I can't say that they don't have every right to do so if they decide to. Ironman clans aren't elitist or have superiority complexes for wanting to keep their clans and chat Ironman only. Each to their own.

Regarding trolling, they don't deserve any respect or to be talked to nor will they ever get it from me at least, because by taking to trolling they've automatically waived the privilege of being talked to, reasoned with and treated like normal and civilised people. By talking to them you are stooping down to acknowledge their existence and give them the attention, validation and respect they don't deserve, and in addition to that it rarely yields any result and is ultimately only a waste of time and energy. They should never get any special attention and I'll never invest my time in solving their own problems. I simply ignore, ban and move on. It's different only if they decide to stop their trolling and try themselves to reach out in a civilised manner to talk to you.

Again, I never meant to come off as you perceived and I'm glad you see and agree with some of my points.

I'm finding it hilarious that this gets taken so seriously to be honest. Made my day!

It's really not discrimination. Is closing your clan to guests discrimination aswell then? Uh oh!

lol what's with all the discrimination bull?

i'll read everything later on when i have more time for this.

Few things i do want to say about what i've read so far.

Poorly constructed Original Post; i agree with that 100% The reason for this is that i'm trying to find extra ways to find extra ways to fight off trolls for a while now. We are working very hard to create a fun gaming environment in our clan. But every time i suggest something regarding this, i hit a brick wall. So the eagerness to create a decent post about what i want to actually achieve is drowning in the thought "meh it wont make a diff anyway" It'll be hijacked to promote others ideas, which are not going to happen, words will be twisted etc etc...

The "discrimination" is a tad too far fetched;
- What's the diff with the whitelist? anyone not on the whitelist is discriminated?
- For that matter any requirement a clan sets as their requirements is discrimination against others not reaching that requirement?

I don't understand whats so hard to get about this, and why this is getting such an amount of torn out of context / perspection reactions.

I'm merely asking if it is possible, to have an OPTION to mute f2p guests, at times when this is needed the most. We have the option to mute any rank, and the option to mute visitors alltogether. BUT muting guests alltogether is in our situation not an option, so an extra tool would be very welcome.

well that was an entertaining read on a monday afternoon!

I whole heartedly support this

Only other option perhaps is making F2P accounts wait X amount of days before they can join a FC or CC but that seems a much more complex approach to a mute F2P option

If a genuine guest joins and cant speak they will no doubt PM to state they cant and we can explain the reasoning

Nothing worse than going the bed and finding that your CC was attacked by trolls and night when less Admins/no admins are on and causing upset to our members, i know they could potentially troll in a P2P account but there is a bit more to lose if they get a mute/ban

Re: The concern that trolls will launch an attack on your cc when admins+ are offline.

A possible solution to this problem already exists. Before logging off for the day, set your permissions so guests are muted or can't enter at all. When an admin+ returns, toggle guesting back on and turn off the mute.

======

After reading through all the posts and giving it further consideration, I support a mute option. However, I think it's still just a band-aid that treats a symptom rather than the cause when it comes to trolls.

Whether the suggested mute or clan specific report options are added or not, there should be more stringent consequences for those who continually try to prevent others from enjoying the game through constant harassment.

Given time to grow up and mature, things may turn around and bring about a positive change. But trying to talk and reason with trolls will rarely do any good. I've seen kids who were real stinkers at one time come back a few years later and apologize for how badly they treated others in the past. But we never tried to "talk it out" at the time they were trolling. They were usually just kos and ignored then.

Yea just ignoring them is the best way, if they are not getting the attention they are after theyll learn from it, talking to them just opens you up to being dragged into drama and the trolling they want.

I love this idea.

We have a large number of guests that sit in our cc allies and friends :)

And when people are trolling they always need to create f2p accounts to spam cc's painful and annoying.

We are a p2p group and if a f2p person wanted to join they can simply pm a leader and ask and happily explain about our requirements.

No, with the whitelist you select people individually. With this "mute all F2P" you don't pick individuals, you separate an entire group. The majority of F2P players aren't trolls or spammers. It's sad that some people abuse the ability to make F2P accounts to spam with, but THAT's the problem that should be fixed. Take away the ability to make spam accounts, add more restrictions to when someone can join a Clan Chat (like having played X hours), add a "whois" tool so clan leaders can identify someone and so on. It's even possible to add a delay to being able to join a Clan Chat (E.G. admins get a message player Y wants to guest in their CC, general information of said player, accept/decline button). It would require more work, but short-term solutions aren't the answer for problems we've been having for a long time. Every single guest should be treated as an individual.
