I don't mind the new update but I do think the count down should start the moment they leave the clan and not when they next log in. This would help people who have been kicked for being inactive. They can then join a new clan as soon as they find one if they decide to return to the game. They are obviously not clan hoppers. :)

I would propose the following changes to the original system (so back to the old system but with changes):

1. Only allow 1 clan hop per month (stops clan hoppers).
2. Allow only people who have been in the clan for 1 month or longer for clan cup participation.

The inability to cap in the first week was never a big problem - at least it's a lot smaller problem than not being able to join a clan. Do add some kind of timer though. Like... "You will be able to cap at the citadel in <number> days." upon entering the clan citadel.

1 free clan hop. After that, that's when you get a short duration between clan hopping which increases the more they hop (e.g. 24 hours, 3 days, 7 days) but will reset on the 1st of the Month, when the cooldown between clans is removed.
However, if you are already on cooldown at the end of the month then you still keep that cooldown until it's over.
e.g. Person X hops too many times, and gets a 7 day probation on the 28th of January. On the 1st he will still have 3/4 day probation. But, if he leaves his next clan (after joining on the 3rd/4th) then he won't have a probation until he leaves again.

Honestly, if you're a sensible player, you shouldn't need more than 1 clan hop per month.

Problems

- People cant join a clan for 7 days
- Clans are missing out on recruits because of not following up on ppl still on cool down

Solution

New rank: Probationary (only during a players cool down)
- Can join the clan and enter the clan chat
- All the attributes of cool down system (cant cap, cant use ava, cant gain clan xp)
- No wait to join a clan
- Show as a ! with a triangle in the clan chat
- Probation rank will not tie in with the normal clan settings option meaning you cant change or do anything to the rank.

This will eradicate players not being able to join a clan but still have the cool down system in place without having guests on.

That's nice and all, but why shouldn't they be allowed to gain xp for the clan whilst on this probation rank? Your idea would possibly be good as a last resort , I still prefer ryan/pants idea/s, which are doable.

I am not sure this is feasible, but what about a separate list where potential recruits could be listed (like the friends list) so that clans could list these people and keep in touch with them easier and make them feel more welcomed. That way, whether they have open clan chats or not, these people would not get lost in the shuffle, could be easily contacted by any members of the clan, and if they find a clan, be removed from the list.

EDIT: This list could include a notes section so things like the date first contacted could be put in and any other useful information could be added.
MORE in-game lists to clutter the game? How annoying. -.-

I can see it now:
Clans that merge retain their current ranks...
What if clans have different rules and methods for ranking?
What if certain members aren't meant to be those ranks?
... One does not SIMPLY MERGE with another clan.

What about just adding a small number icon next to their name in the Clan Chat while Guesting, indicating how many days they have left? The data of this is already written to their character, right? So, how hard would it be to input that data into a Clan Chat upon their entry as a Guest?
