Suggestions for Improvement

Just over 2 weeks ago we made a change to Clans that removed the probation period from Clans and instead set a cooldown period on leaving Clans for 7 days. There were 3 core reasons for the change that we felt had to be addressed/changed.

1) The delay on new Clan Members being able to function as a full member of the Clan ie Citadel skilling.
2) The ability of individuals to leave one Clan and take part in activities, including the Clan Cup, as a member of another Clan straight away. There was a significant issue with this during the Clan Cup and led to disqualifications.
3) That "Clan Hoppers" caused significant concern to a number of Clans and were something we wanted to address.

The update provided extra technical features that we will look to exploit in future development. We also made a further change last week to allow Clan members to return to a Clan they had recently left without the cooldown applying - due to feedback from the CLF and elsewhere.

This thread is provided for the suggestion of further development of the probation & cooldown system. Any suggestion needs to meet the following requirements:

1) To ensure there is at least one weeks delay on Citadel skilling when swapping Clans.
2) To ensure there is at least one weeks delay on receiving Clan benefits when swapping Clans. eg Avatar buffs
3) To ensure there is at least one weeks delay on participating in any Clan-based competitions when swapping Clans.
4) Must be an implementation that is technically feasible (don't worry we'll tell you if it is or not)
5) Must minimise any impact to first time Clan joiners/new players.

While some Clan Leaders are unhappy with the changes a similar number have supported them. We will not be reverting to the old probation system as it does not meet these requirements but we are keen to see further improvements and enhancements to the process as it stands. We will also continue to monitor the metrics we have placed around Clan joining, leaving, returning and new players and reviewing that data on an ongoing basis with the understanding that provides us.

Reminder: This thread is for positive discussion and suggestions for improvements to the current system and will be moderated on that basis. No bunfights please. :)

Would it be possible to maybe be-able to 'tag' clans, so that you have a list (perhaps limited in size to 5?) so people looking for clans can have a list of members on their guest clan chat tab of clans they joined and liked?

This would also perhaps benefit those who just like to guest clans, so they can just click on the link and join the guest clan without typing it out.

This I feel may help remind people looking for clans of clan chats they visited and liked (because they tagged them) and for others to clans they like to visit to chat or do activities with.

Nice thread, hoping for some awesome ideas :D

Thanks for the opportunity to help :) I don't have any suggestion atm but I look forward to reading what others have to say.

Thanks Matthe.

EDIT: Actually would it be possible to add a "tag" in the clan members list in game to indicate they are a new member? (like the old probation warning, could even be the same icon :) )

Suggestion: Set citadel capping as a weekly D&D.

1) Solves this problem

2&3) I am confused about both of these. If we stay in a clan, we can receive clan buffs 24/7, unlike citadels where we can only cap once per week, so why is a 7 day wait period necessary? As for #3, can't a clan cup hopper just hop a week in advance? Yes it might slow them down a bit, but it seems like it wouldn't end this behavior. It seems like something more drastic would be needed if you really wanted to eliminate this behavior.

4) No clue :P

5) Solves this problem

Hi Daeve ,

Yes we can - we'll add it our development backlog for DevCom1.

I really like Tiber's idea. This could help sort through all the clans out there and gives folks a preferred choice of clans they have interacted with.

I think this would also help any clan mergers that are potentially coming up.

I am not sure this is feasible, but what about a separate list where potential recruits could be listed (like the friends list) so that clans could list these people and keep in touch with them easier and make them feel more welcomed. That way, whether they have open clan chats or not, these people would not get lost in the shuffle, could be easily contacted by any members of the clan, and if they find a clan, be removed from the list.

EDIT: This list could include a notes section so things like the date first contacted could be put in and any other useful information could be added.

I also like Shade's idea, could help maintain a list of people the clan have invited on forums (or ingame), helping to know who they are/ why they are here without talking to them.

Also, since Merges where mentioned, perhaps allow some 'official' way to merge clans? Requiring something like both leaders to be at the clan camp, talk to a npc and choose which clan merges into which other clan?

Requiring the owner & 4 other members to complete? Perhaps also requiring the other clan to have their citadel pre-locked out for all members for a full build tick before the merge can happen. (to prevent double capping etcetera.)

So I'm suggesting for a merge, the clan joining the other would need to:
- Press a 'prepare for merge' button, locking the citadel for one full build tick, once this is complete they can merge with another clan.
- Meet up with other clan, with owner & 4 members from both clans at the clan camp, join some lobby and aslong as the clan joining the other has prepared for a merge (using the proposed button), the merge can happen.

All the members from the clan that is joining would join as recruit (to allow the 'dominant' clan, for lack of a better word to rank up the members as agreed). I also think all clan xp and orts should be maintained, to help reduce problems when joining the new clan. (Some members I feel like to have a lot of clan xp and dont like losing it, so keeping it can help merges be more successful).

This was a rather long post/ quickly thought out idea, sorry if its a bit confusing/ random :P

Suggestion: Keep current probation method, but make a "friend of the clan" list similar to the ban list (but opposite obviously). This list would allow people to join clan chat's that have guesting off as well as allow them to feel like part of the clan still. Perhaps give them their own rank symbol in the clan member interface. Best case scenario, allow that person to be instantly added to clan after their probation period is done and if they're not in a clan already. A mutual acceptance will be necessary to be on this list so clans can't add random people.

1) Solves this problem.
2) Solves this problem.
3) Solves this problem.
4) I doubt it D:
5) Perhaps solves this problem.

Hi Tiber ,

A Clan Merging tool is indeed on our backlog for development ;)
