I do believe I saw this suggestion somewhere else on the CLF but can't for the life of me remember who suggested it.

Would it be possible to merge the new and the old probation systems?

If Player A leaves clan A, previously he was free to join any clan at any time with the consequence being he couldn't cap for a full week. Currently he can't join any clan for a full week, but once the week is up he is free to cap immediately.
What if, instead of forcing him to wait the full week, it was made so both would work simultaneously? For example;

Player A leaves clan A, shops around for 3 days and finds a new clan he really likes. He joins this clan and subsequently is a probationary member for the remaining 4 days (with some further restrictions to ensure avatar and clan based competitions continue to remain off limits).

Am I a lone voice in not disliking the new system ?

We have had a most successful few weeks of recruiting, with a lot of new members who all guested with us through varying degrees of the 7 day cool down period (following some exceptionally successful hati/skoll clan events).

As a citadel clan, we do expect citadel visits/capping from members, but be it a 7 days citadel probation or a 7 days of guesting in clan, those new members are equally as welcome. We did use the probation period as a ranking tool, but still use the 7 days in clan before promotion up from recruit, so this is not as easy as it was to tell, but is not really a problem for us.

In this case the difficulty arises as follows:

Yes, there's checks existing for "This Clan Member Is On Probation" in the code.
However, it's stored in their clan profile using clan data and clan-specific engine commands.
Under the new mode I've seen suggested, they can be on their 7-day cooldown while not a member of a clan.
While not a member of a clan they have no access to their clan data (on account of not having a clan to have data for) and therefore the clan-specific engine commands are not of use.
Therefore we can't reuse any of the existing probation code.
Similarly, clan probation code as it stood was centralised such that it could be referenced in other content that used clan-specific commands - like the citadel. We'd need, to get use out of your proposed system, to include checks for things like Clan Wars... and Clan Wars is not clan-specific content, was written before clan-specific code existed, and doesn't have that framework available.
Therefore the architecture of the existing probation code wouldn't be much use either.
We could store clan cooldown information on the player - although that would defy the extant convention of storing clan information within clan data, it would be justifiable in this case with some fast talking - but we'd need to reference that through a new check added to each individual piece of relevant content and then test every bit of content we've added it to.

That's not the trivial job some believe it is. Joys of working with a legacy codebase, I'm afraid - there are some very obvious and simple solutions that become a nightmare when you have to factor around what would take significant time investment to rework.

Thanks for the explanation Mod Moltare! I found this very interesting to read. :)

By no means are you a lone voice. I personally like it as well, however I'm also not against improvements =P

Absolutely not. I also support.

What about my visibility suggestion on page two that got lost or ignored between dissent posts/responses?

Why only improvement? If you're going to sit there and call everything we say undo-able, then there's no point in this thread. Forget improvements, it needs a whole new system, if you're not willing to revert to the previous one. Instead of telling us to come up with ideas for improvements, tell us what other systems are technically feasible, and viable, then we can discuss those.

Also my thread did not need locking, as it was still providing debate, something we're not allowed to do in this thread (effectively muting us)

This.
If everything we're going to suggest won't be "Technically feasible" give us ideas of systems or improvements which are technically feasible. We can then discuss them and debate them, vote on them and get them in the game.
And if this ever does go through, and there are updates or a system, it had better not end up on backlog for several years. I know work is busy, and there's no clan team, but this is a major issue and it's killing clans.

Also Matthe says that an equal number of people support this as those that don't. I want to see evidence of this "fact" because, as far as what I've seen, the majority dislike it. I've also seen complaints in the VIP forums about it when it came out, and so without any polls I want to know how you can accurately say this.

I see a lot of skeptical posters, regarding why it's 2015 and Jagex seemingly has trouble making suggestions and improvements happen on things that appear to be a simple "copy and paste" ( :p ) job that's been done similarly on games from the late 1990's. I don't think these suggestions / improvements are copy & paste, or an overnight job at all. I just don't think they are as difficult to implement as they make it out to be. I think the real source of the problem is the lack of dev resources available to them, QA, Testing, Coding... They will likely never admit this (and they shouldn't), but the reason you're not seeing good things implemented in 2015...... is just the lack of dev they have available.

If you think these wild investment adventures like Transformers Universe, that card game, and all that other junk Jagex' spend and lose money on doesn't effect us? Well, it does. This is the result. They are forced to cherry pick through suggestions and updates that may be of less quality than another suggestion or not fully implement said suggestion, etc.

Disappointed 10+ year customer right here.

Suggestion regarding the probation / cooldown system: Fix guesting. You know what I'm talking about. It's been said a billion times. Find a way to do it. Make it so we have more options and control over guests, who join, etc. Do that and I'll quit fussing.

P.S. It was all I could do to make sure there was no mild-in-general profanity in this post. I didn't want to give anyone the slightest reason to hide this post. I think it's atrocious the reasons they'll find to hide someone's post on these private forums.
"Why are you posting threads, asking questions and making discussion???"

By we, I mean everyone who is against this bullpoo of a system. You will happily listen to those who are for this system, but will still ignore us who want a new system, that is why this thread wont work. Owner of
