After reading more or less every post, apart from personally preferring scret's idea (sorry if I typoed)

Based on what I know of coding, most of the proposed solutions would be quite difficult even without the complexity of the clan code that I assume.

Making a new rank is fairly complicated and with the technical side of other cooldowns, an alternative sort of mix of the systems that I thought of was a pseudo-guest.

Basically, you can immediately rejoin clans (which solves having to fix this kicking issue and guesting). But you have the permissions of guests in a way, this can either literally copy the guest permissions so you can't do any clan-related thing apart from not spamming guest enter/left, and get a recruit rank.

-Guests cannot get orts/make a cooldown on getting sorts
-Guests cannot cap at the citadel
-Guests cannot get the RCW badge

I know you're busy with having to manage without Mod MattHe, but I was wondering if you could just see if this idea was feasible :o

Currently with the way the engine works, you're either in a clan or not in a clan. Only the clan chat channel can have guests.

Whilst technically anything is possible in theory, the time and resource to code this blended system would be excessive as it would require engine work, extensive rewrite of all rank checking scripts (most of them) and then citadels would need to be QA'd from scratch to make sure nothing has been broken in the process. (Bear in mind RuneScript is NOT object oriented, so not particularly modular).

So could it be done? Yes. Would it be done in the next year? Highly unlikely.

I'm having trouble understanding why all this is necesarry. Is it not the equivalent of making a reverse ban list (since the ban lost implies there is already a name check protocol on place), and then adding a pic of a smiley next to a person's name? I don't know RuneScript, but I know enough coding mechanics to believe it shouldn't take a year to do. You stated Runescript isn't OOP but I still don't see the critical problem.

^ This is the bare bones structure of what players want by the way. I understand anything extra brings more difficulties.

A quick glance at the approved guest list to check if a guest is approved or not would probably work just fine as an alternative to their being a :) in clanchat. Depending on if the list was in alphabetical order and how many people are on the list -it wouldnt be quite as convenient, but it would work well for my clan at least.

If only approved guests can enter the chat, then it would make it even easier to assume they are approved, too.

If the lady, I mean squirrel! .. says it'll take forever to code than it will. Squirrels are the fastest out there, so we know it can't get done much faster xD

Seriously, rs code is commercially sensitive but I bet they would love to school us in how amazingly difficult it can be sometimes with 13 years of code built up :p

It is unfortunate though..... I am really for this guesting thing... but a password truly is better than nothing. Also, I'm super pumped for individual mute.

Would you make it possible for a clan to set their password to max length high entropy codes and have admins change it every time a guest gains access? (Or the same thing except the password is made simpler temporarily to make joining more convenient)

That would be a way to use a password system to increase control over who can gains access close to the control of a guest white list except in the situation that someone leaves as a guest temporarily and has to ask permission to rejoin.

Why have a code to type in to join a clan? We've made it potentially more difficult to leave clans. Now you're suggesting making it more difficult to join clans? Well sorry but I don't think this is a viable idea. I think that could discourage people from joining clans. Also you could be isolating certain clans. What if the clan leader sets the pin and goes inactive and forgets to tell their admins the code. No one could join for ages ... and I don't think Jagex would want the responsibility of resetting the pass for every single clan that has this problem

A guest white list or cc chat icon or something to tell us they are on cooldown would save us much needed time from other clan leader responsibilities in my opinion. In terms of making guests feel welcome, that's really your clan members showing initiative and inviting them to partake in clan activities.

I may be reading this wrong but that's what I gleamed from the above posts.

I think they are talking about joining a clan chat as a guest. Putting a pin/password on guesting in a clans chat (if they so choose to have it). I think joining a clan won't change from the admin with an invite button.
Or at least that's what I've taken away from the conversation.
