I think the 'guest knocking -approve/deny' idea would work a little better than a password, not that the password idea isnt good too.

Would be easier to approve a guest when they try to join chat, versus having them wonder what the password is imo.

My problem with the password idea is that it doesn't solve the fact that we want people to feel as if they belong once they join the cc, not as a guest, which the password fix doesn't solve.

We want clanmates to be able to freely choose clans, or at least feel as if they are able to leave and join clans at will, which is why a guest whitelist/rank (with perhaps an auto-invite or invite reminder) would have partly solved this problem. It would give them a rank that makes them feel as if they were part of the clan.

This is just my opinion on the matter. Citadel and clan war clans dictated this update and my clan, as well as many others, is neither. We want a fix for the feeling of community and autonomy that was broken with this update.

On a technical side, the password idea seems simply frustrating. My cc stays open to guests but I imagine that clans that aren't would have to constantly remind people of what the password is, as well as change it pretty often due to trolls or clanmates giving it away too often.

Assuming it would have a turn on/off option should be fine.

Something i would find really handy is the option to right click a guest in cc and see how long they have left on cooldown. Saves me having to stop someone playing to invite only to see they cant join for 4 days.

You're probably aware of the thread "Clan 7 Day Rejoin Timer" under Recent Game Updates discussing cool down. Some players are obviously putting a lot of effort into thinking of ways the system might be improved.

Would one of you consider sharing the parameters of what's needed as you have done for us here so those players better understand the requirements?

It's possible we might see a viable solution from a concerned player outside CLF.

I hope Mod Matthe gets better soon (I'm not saying this so you can work sooner, but because I haven't said it yet).

We have hope again! :D Good luck in your investigations whenever you get the time. A few concerns I think should be looked into during the investigation:
1) As long as the password doesn't change, would it be possible for guests to auto join if they have entered it correctly beforehand?
2) Based on standards on what's acceptable and reportable, would a pin number be preferable to a password?

Hypothetically, if you wanted to secure your clan from unwanted guests you could generate an authenticator-esque system such that entry codes are unique to each person and have limited time of use that only people above a certain rank can generate :3

Probably not an appropriate time to use something like that but I like the idea of it :P

Anyway, If that's the most technically viable way to go about addressing peoples' concerns then I'll voice my support :)

The password is definitely a interesting idea. I could see there being manageability nightmares though.

One bad egg and the whole lot of legit guests now have to deal with a new password, and then the word needs to travel around your clan, or admin ranks about the new password and the bad egg... And word doesn't get word to the one admin with a soft spot, so they look up the new password (assuming you can look up the password), and let the bad egg back in.... so on and so forth...

Or to let in a new guest, one admin who doesn't know what the current password is (assuming you can't look up the password) changes the password let the new guest in, and now all of the other guests are locked out...


Not trying to be negative at all about it... There is a great potential for it to be a good idea. Part of it depends on how the design and permissions work out.
