People came, people went, we learned, we grew, we adapted, we became a clan of 1400 members ish, 2 tier 7 cit's and a tier 6 cit.
Imo possible by; 1) original founders who are open for ideas from others, 2) a very well balanced system, 3) an awesome admin+ team, 4) an attitude of "You don't HAVE to do anything, but what you do for and with the clan earns you points towards rankings" And last but not least 5) the main pillars on which our clan is based; Events, recruits, citadel, ranking and media

Hi hi, the last bit caught my eye, media? What sort of media did you use, and how was it effective.

I've seen wolfscape members around in 83, always loved that some people also had wolf, seemed like a well knit group, so interesting to see that you also had a plight of trouble waters. But yeah the Media, love to hear more :)

Clan Owner.
Wolf
Scape
Community
4 years, 1 month-ish

Started Clan Leader life pretty much a decade ago; ran a Forum based Clan here in the RSOF called, Soul Dragons. Real life with uni took over and the Clan just eventually disappeared.

Years later, I joined a Clan just after the proper introduction of Clans and found myself running all facets of the Clan with very little help from the actual Owners: hosting Events, Recruiting, marking Caps, Ranking, managing the CCs, etc.
The Clan started ebbing away and it wasn't long until I left and started my current Clan,
Wolf
Scape
, with my now wife ChunksofPlum .

Been running
Wolf
Scape
for over 4 years now.
Like everything in life, we had our ups and downs, but continued learning, adapting and growing.

I'm a firm believer in rewarding those who put effort in and have overtime established an absolutely fantastic Admin team who help run the every day necessities of our community.

My personal leadership style is seeing who stands our with certain aspects of our Citadel, Events, Recruiting, Ranking & Media (CERRM) system and delegating a responsibility to them to manage: which they always do brilliantly.

There's also the, sometimes , tough calls of removing those not pulling their weight and becoming infective and more of a burden on the community: thankfully this is a very, very rare occurrence, as everyone enjoys helping the community.

So here we are, 4 years later, from the 5 original founders, we now have over 1,400 members spanning over 3 Clans.
I contribute all the success we've had to our hard working loyal members; I know a great community isn't founded through dictatorship, but rather is through a collaboration of its members.

I joined Lost Souls when I finally got the required levels and played with them for about three years. I moved up the ranks and eventually became leader. This was right before everything went crazy with alliances wanting more control over what worlds sw clans played in and if the alliance leaders deemed certain clans worthy of even existing. I didn't care much for the way they operated, so our clan became a target. I was barely ready to lead a clan under normal circumstances much less during an all out war with high drama. Some really good decisions were made along with some horrible ones. (If I knew then what I know now...)

In 2009, the founders of Lost Souls returned and took w2ls back. This was a painful time for those involved but worked out for the best. Twenty of us started a social clan called Ardent Souls. We were together for three years or so.

For the past three years I've been a leader of Rafiki clan. Over the years I've seen so many good people come and go. School, jobs, serving in the military, losing interest in the game, hating EoC, etc. brought about changes. We've lost a few members recently because they didn't like that our clan can be really quiet. There aren't a lot of players in the cc at any given time and I'm not certain what the future holds for us.

Over the last seven years or so, many great memories have been made in clans and I've met some awesome people.

Given the chance, I'd have done some things differently, but the journey has been a memorable one and it was all worth it.

Good thread, glad it got bumped because I otherwise never would have read it. Dang, some of these clans are pretty old, and that's pretty inspiring. It's also humbling to hear about how some of our more "seasoned" clan owners and leaders started as recruits, and weren't necessarily founders :P

omg another Runescape couple!!! :D I've heard about a few, lol, and I think it's powerful how Runescape is what made some of these marriages happen.

I'm a deputy owner in The Name, which is about 3 years old. I've been one since the beginning of March, and I had joined at the end of last December 2015 when I came back to Runescape after a 5 year hiatus.

I joined because I had known Corugi and Sookie Lala on the forums a few years ago, and the clan was so welcoming and hilarious when I guested. And it shared one of my types of humor, lol :P

Oh love this thread, and I've enjoyed getting to read the stories!

So I'm Chrisseh, leader and founder of a clan called SomethingRoyal. Originally I actually co-led this clan with a really good friend of mine after he and I left our old one, due to neither of us really being happy. On a personal level I had been in several clans in the past, been staff and leadership, so I've always kind of known what I don't like and what I do. I knew how much work it would take to run a clan, and unfortunately he did not. We started August of 2015, he left in early January because it became to much for him. With IRL issues, he just couldn't handle the stress, so he left and I've been running it ever since. I do have an amazing deputy that has stuck with me, and in that we also have a really awesome leadership and staff team.

The clan, to me anyway, is what I've always wanted in a clan. There are rough edges, like I think are in any clan, but we're working on smoothing them out. I think right now the hardest part is not only finding people who want to help do things-because we have a lot of people that want to be in the clan and hang out, but the ones that are on staff aren't necessarily doing the jobs that the clan needs to continue to thrive. It's been frustrating, actually really frustrating, but I know that as we are still new and some of these people don't really know what to do, it's going to happen. We've improved a lot in the 8mths we've been around, but we've still got a lot of work to go. :P

A part of me wishes that I had met the people I'm friends with now and created the clan when I first started playing, in 2005, however I know that if I hadn't gone through the different clans I was in, in the past as well as the growing experiences I wouldn't be able to run this clan today. It's shown me what I want to aim to be as a leader, and as a person. :P Super cheesy I'm sure, but eh as is life.

How have you found the changes along the way, CC introduction, citadel, old school?

CC introduction was interesting, as we'd previously used (what is now called) a Friends chat as our chat channel. It was closed to guests, but some of the people added to it were not clan members, but were regarded as Friends of the clan. Since the new CC didn't allow a 'whitelist' of non-member guests, I had to create a new rank for those former Friends who were available to be added to our Clan Chat. Some Friends, and also some members, belonged to another clan that also gained a CC, so we did lose some of our numbers to that. Although some of them have joined us again since. :)

Citadel has never really been a problem. The policy was that you didn't have to work there if you didn't want to; the clan would end up with whatever tier of Citadel its members were willing to maintain. Some members who really wanted a tier 7 Citadel prompted others who otherwise might not have bothered, and we now have a fully maxed Citadel, whose upkeep can easily be gained by those of us who still go there every week.

Old School didn't give us any long-term problems. We continued to maintain the FC as well as the CC, and while people were away trying out OSRS, they talked to us via the FC. The majority of members eventually returned to RS3 as their main game. A few of them still play there now and again, and a few resigned to play OSRS exclusively; but we didn't lose many.

More recently, we decided to open our FC to guests; very recently, we changed which FC it was, so if anyone reading has suddenly discovered they can't access our FC any more, it's not because we've locked you out. :) 'CarousersFC' is now our open Friends chat.
