I love all these suggestions for F2p expansion. Runescape is growing at a really cool rate but I see that F2p is being a little neglected. Shuffling the RS1 content into f2p no longer “takes away” from the Member experience as much of it is forgotten or dead content.

One of my favourite memories is being F2p as a kid and wanting to make it to taverly sooo badly. I also remember that when burthlop and taverly became free to play accessible it only made membership numbers go up higher as many f2p players finally got a chance to experience the very beginner stages of membership.

Once upon a time you couldn’t level member skills at all and now the ability to touch level 5 is available, if Runescape wishes to keep growing then being considerate of the whole community (f2p/p2p/rs3/osrs) is incredibly important and when the ability to make things better for everyone is presented then whats stopping us from just being nice?

Anyways…. Yeah! Community Growth is dope!

And thank you Jagex for maintaining such a fun game regardless of play style

Right now, a nice addition to F2P would be the ability for free players to open the purple presents we receive - as we were able to do prior to this year.

I dislike getting gifts I cannot open, bank, sell, or use.
I'm not sure where I should put that suggestion, but yes I agree. I'm hoping it was a bug and not intentional.

Thanks for your comment. I totally think opening more content to F2P would help with the growth of the game. Some players will lose interest over time at the high end, so more will be needed to replace them. Having a steady flow of players keeps the game healthy. And yes - a large amount of content is underplayed, so it really doesn't hurt to make it more accessible and/or appealing.

The 5-level trial certainly has its drawbacks, which a 20-level extension would help with. I totally agree that equal effort needs to be put in on behalf of all players in order to make it sustainable over time (with niche exceptions like Ironmen, whose priority is slightly lower).

What are your thoughts on
Brimhaven Agility Arena
? It mostly has requirements for the f2p cap except for level 40 agility, which will be locked to members. Rewards should be added to accommodate f2p items.

I think
Snare
should be F2P since it does not have member runes to use. I know other users will argue that this spell is overpowered for F2P. In f2p, pvp ranger ability can do 9.6 seconds for bound status over then just using snare 9 seconds for PVP and 18 seconds for monster.

For the slayer cap increase. Assign the Vannaka rock slug since no one slayer in f2p areas assigns the enemy. Chealdar could keep cave crawlers; if that is not possible, then Vannaka might be a good fit for that.

I need your opinion on the "
buyers and cellar quest
"; this one is in Lumbridge and opens up theives guild and low theiving level requirement for the quest.

I guess we need to consider
strong woodcutting urn
to be F2P since yew trees are the highest level of F2P woodcutting to cut logs and maybe mahogany trees to cut in the future.

With the combat updates happening, hopefully combat skills will increase to level 120. Since strong smithing and mining urns are F2P, it would have been okay for F2P with a plain urn. I return my statement from earlier; orikalkum equipment could be possible after a combat upgrade. Earlier, I was thinking about balance with the current runescape. For now, let Jagex work on the combat. I guess Jagex may be future proof to include possible orikalkum equipment.

I guess we need volunteers to test out the combat beta for the f2p side to see the balance, mostly for PVP specifically, including the highest-degrading and non-degrading equipment. Then base this on a better evaluation.

Brimhaven Agility Arena
: I’ve gone back and forth on this since you posted. I would say that if impactful F2P rewards are added, then I’d be in favor of making it F2P.

Snare
spell: I think that spell should definitely be F2P. I don’t buy the arguments that it would be overpowered. I can’t really think of a situation where I would even use it outside PvP. However, it would be a very fun spell to spring on an opponent in a minigame. It would also add some tactical variety, as stun abilities are constrained by combat style and other mechanics.

Buyers and Cellars
quest: I would make the quest F2P with a Thieving extension, but not before.

Strong Woodcutting urn
: Those should be F2P, as yew trees already are. Mahogany trees and choking ivy are plausible to become F2P in future. Same goes for Cooking and Fishing urns. Lava eels would become available with Heroes’ Quest, and desert soles could conceivably be added to Het’s Oasis.

I’m open to T60 equipment becoming F2P. An orikalkum hatchet is overdue. Ranged weapons/ammunition made of orikalkum would also be interesting. Dragon Ranged items could then be buffed to make them more worthwhile, like how dragon armour is stronger than current orikalkum melee equipment.

Rewards are agility experience, mid-tier herbs, and a
left pirate's hook
. I guess Pirate's Hook should be a no-brainer hard to get, and
agility experience
is easy to add for F2P. I guess mid-tier herb should be P2P and add
harlander herb
as a reward. Harlander herbs in F2P cannot be farmed, and they are less common than the other F2P proposed herbs. I guess the reward should be 5 haralander herbs.

I consider pure essence to be mined in F2P, if not consolidating the rune and pure essence into one type. At the beginning of RS2, it was destroyed by bots that made money by creating runes. So, Jagex had to separate member runecrafting runes with pure essence.

For the treasure trail, only the willow composite bow is F2P, but
magic and yew composite bows
are P2P. Its shieldbow counterparts are already in F2P, so it makes sense to make these two bows in F2P; there is no use in P2P.

I suggest
VANAKA
assign
rock slugs
and maybe
cave crawlers
. In your proposal, we do not have access to Canifis Slayer Master. Use those enemies for Vanaka instead of the raptor.

Since harlander herb is suggested for f2p,
Greenman's ale
would be another viable consideration because clean halander is a part of the ingredient. Greenman's ale would keep herblore, add farming to the mix and penalize hunter and slayer skill because it sound like a natural drink.

I have updated the quest list

Herbs should have their Farming requirements lowered to match Herblore. Then F2P players would be able to grow harralander. For the Agility Arena, the pirate hook is valuable because it takes so long to grind (13 hours according to the wiki), so I think a different incentive would be needed for F2P players to engage with it.

I would alternatively suggest replacing the arena with The Pit Distraction/Diversion. At least the last time I played, it was a pain due to the sheer randomness of being noticed by the scout, coupled with the unpredictability of the outcome. The agile clothing set would remain P2P, but all players would be able to access the activity at any time to earn XP and prizes.

I’m in favor of consolidating rune and pure essence. It’s long overdue.

Composite bows should definitely be F2P. I’d add an oak, maple, and (P2P) elder composite bow and also allow shieldbow sights to be added to them. I’d also add upgrade kits, allowing players to trim them and/or give them a Prayer bonus.

Adding rock slugs to Vannaka would make sense, as they seem a bit low for Chaeldar. I am actually reconsidering making rock slugs F2P, simply because their Slayer requirement is exactly 20. It might be better to leave them as P2P, as there would be little reason to complete Slayer tasks as a non-member after reaching the max level. Cave crawlers are assigned by Chaeldar and a bit high for Vannaka. Otherworldly beings should be moved from Mazchna to Chaeldar, as they are in Zanaris and the right level for her to assign.

Greenman’s ale could be made F2P. I wouldn’t feel the need to give it a Farming boost, as cider already has that property.

Ok, that makes sense for the slayer master. I suggest adding Rockslug to Vanaka.

Ok, good point on the Brimhaven agility arena. I guess it needs to be refreshed since it is in the Brimhaven area as part of the expansion. I would like to hear your ideas on how to update that idea.

I would recommend
RockSlug
be F2P. When the slayer is up to level 5, crawling hands is still a level 5 slayer assignment. Crawling hands give out Canifis gloves. A special drop for Rockslug are the light mystic gloves. Rockslug is in the same area as the other three slayer monsters. If a level 5 crawling hand is f2p on a level 5 cap, why can't a rock slug be the final slayer monster option in f2p for a level 20 cap?

There needs to be a
rare reward
item drop for cave crawlers. Since the enemy has slayer level 10 and higher combat level than Rock Slugs, I would suggest dropping light mystic boots or a new power item for magic tier 50 or 55.

You’re right about rock slugs. I’ll keep them in the suggestions. I’ll also include adding them to Vannaka’s assignments if I have enough room.

Cave crawlers dropping light mystic boots is a good idea to boost the value of that creature. I didn’t know crawling hands dropped Canifis gloves, but that totally makes sense.

I don’t have any ideas to improve the Agility Arena directly, but I would consider adding a rooftop Brimhaven Agility course. Starting on Musa Point, I imagine players running around the volcano, hopping a fence into Brimhaven, climbing across some buildings, diving through the jungle, swinging to and from the moss giant island, doing a loop around the beach, and eventually arriving at the goal back in Musa Point, near Zambo’s store. The course could have certain more advanced obstacles, allowing different routes of varying difficulty. That would allow the course to scale with the player’s Agility level up to a certain point, keeping it relevant for a while.
