I'm in a similiar boat with Abby: not all female characters need to be the same, including all strong warriors. But Raptor was another character entirely and this felt forced. The mysterious and brute nature presented was enjoyable given any interaction, and there was another whole character to explore. The quest wasn't bad and was an ok introduction for necromancy, but it completely destroyed the great character the Raptor truely was.

The part that people really miss here, is that Jagex took the opportunity to ensure one really understood how special the relationship between a buttoned-up king and his attack dog queen really is. It's a down-to-earth masterpiece in which Roald is able to reign in his wife's desire to handle everything efficiently on her own and administer diplomacy without having to trample on Ellamaria's yearning for adventure and mortal challenge, and Ellamaria adds on to her genuine love for her husband by distinguishing it as love without conditions rather than having it be attached to the status fo the Remanis family line.

She has pet names for King Roald. She protects him from highly dangerous beasts. She goes well above and beyond to ensure Varrock has a small piece of sanctuary for him (and herself, as the player implies in Dead and Buried.)

The first thing people -should- think about Queen Ellamaria, is that she is deeply in love with her husband, and has sacrificed much in order to assist in carrying the load that is placed on his shoulders willingly.

The last thing, is that underneath the fancy royal regalia, is a woman who lost a whole lot prior to meeting Roald to begin with, and treasures those things in her own way. Not only that, but her husband also sees the value in the other things she loves and acts in a manner that supports her.

I'd argue, that it's okay for Ellamaria to have all of those things, and that conversely, the Raptor doesn't act all that much different from Ellamaria and didn't have as many tangibles to conform to prior.

Again, maybe we took this development off the burner too soon, and it is possible that liberties were taken to change the Raptor as a result (I think Mod Jack claims this was always their endgame, but I'm not the biggest believer in Mod Jack at times.)

However, I think people are missing a great Queen Ellamaria because we lost a great Raptor, and it makes me sad.

I was hoping Raptor would be an undead that Zemouregal raised but wasn't able to control

We aren't even sure Zemouregal isn't an undead now, as Moia has clearly ripped his flesh apart. before Unwelcome Guest. Perhaps Xau-Tak raised him and used him for the Necromancy attacks, and that's why out of nowhere did he learn of all the Dragonkin stuff. ;)

We know he isn't, mahjarrat can't be undead. What Moia did was critically weaken Zemouregal which forced him back to his skeletal form (which mahjarrat were all in before each ritual of rejuvination / when they lack the energy to maintain full-flesh). Also I believe in order to be undead a being needs to have a soul - and mahjarrat do not have souls. This is why when mahjarrat die there is no afterlife. They're simply gone.

I think that the Big Secret we're asked to keep at the end of the quest is already compromised...

Ellamaria's secret identity is already known to Roald, to Reldo/Charos and to us, so who else has worked it out?

As they say "two can keep a secret if one of them is dead"...

We didn't write the story. Nobody other than RS3 Jmods who are involved in the episodic production of such content knows.

We already knew long ago when Mahjarrat ran out of "energies" they went to hibernation like Jhallan, dreamed and took the form of what they dreamed of.

We also definitely knew Mahjarrat has afterlife. Azzanadra told us about Erebus already. And that's also why it makes the most sense Zemouregal is under the control of the rulers of Erebus now.

You should also ask yourself under your assumption when Zemouregal has run out of energies, and even if he didn't die should he be under the control of Moia who took his energies now? And guess who is the final boss controlling Moia since the Halloween 'Til Death Do them Apart event?

@Hilda

I'm the opposite because I didn't actually care about the raptor before this. I didn't think he was cool before, or all that mysterious and interesting.

I thought "oh a masked character who obsessively hunts monsters and has issues socializing" yawn. like something out of a shonen anime.

it was Ellamaria's character that I had an issue with, it was her character that was "ruined" by having the raptor's identity narratively thrusted onto her. and the only real build up was the murder on the border quest where they suddenly and abruptly started insisting that she was a great warrior.

To me there is something more grounded and interesting about a woman living in quiet suffering, and lashing out at people due to bitterness.

Not every woman can be an adventurer on the side to deal with their problems, some women don't want to be warriors or can't be warriors for a variety of reasons.

Sometimes people live their entire lives wanting to be something else, and they never do. it makes them angry thinking about it, and while that person is rude and standoffish, they are fascinating as a story character.

Runescape lost an opportunity to have a deeper pessimistic character within their otherwise vibrant fantasy world. a richer more diverse take if you ask me.

also the first thing that jumped out at me was that its seems kind of impossible to manage being a queen and the raptor simultaneously. Queens are insanely busy, and it seems like the raptor is all over runescape all the time.

Nobody in the quest, or ever in RS3 lore, has mentioned Vorkath. Ungael was just a Dragonkin Lab, it is not all about Vorkath and may not even have a thing about Vorkath, who means pathetic failure, weaking in OSRS anyway. Even in OSRS Vorkath doesn't do a thing and has no lore outside his liar. It is really mind blown how it is related to Fort Forinthry anyway.

If you think we may want to go to Ungael to kill Vorkath (if he did appear in RS3 in the future) for Necromancy resources, there is such a chance just like other NPCs we can get Necromancy resources from (Skeletal Rex, all kinds of undead, Skeletal Horror, etc), but we will be doing such activities for the world saving Necromancy, and not the epic but human sized conflicts Mod Jack talked about Fort Forinthry.

@Dilbert.

Zuk also had scant lore on OSRS, this is no barrier.

If you talk to the Raptor about one of the murals (which depicts Ungael) in the Dragonkin crypt, they will ask about the word Vorkath from their dream and guesses that Vorkath is a place. The other mural, depicting a dragon, prompts the player to say “big dragon” and the Raptor to reference Song of the Depths by pointing out that they’ve dealt with larger ones.

The dragon mural is used in the quests email teaser, along with language that suggests the dragon is familiar.

Tomato is right, Mahjarrat have no souls, so they don’t have an afterlife.

The Lucien at the end of the Halloween event is a nightmare belonging to Moia. Not Lucien’s actual corpse brought back to life.

TYVM for admitting Zuk had scant lore in OSRS. The RS3 Zuk is simply very different from the OSRS Zuk. What makes you think Vorkath in OSRS has anything to do with Vorkath in RS3 (even when it appears in the future)?

Again, if we do see Vorkath in RS3, more than likely it will be very different than the Vorkath with scant lore in OSRS. Can you please tell us what do you think the Vorkath has a thing to do with Fort Forinthry?

Mahjarrat clearly have afterlife, just not the afterlife of Death and Icthlarin. The God Azzanadra told us so as his master God Zaros told him. More importantly, regardless what you think "afterlife" is, Zemouregal is under the control of other superior being. He is no longer acting as what he was before Moia trashed him.

I didn’t ever say Zuk had significant OSRS lore ever before, so I don’t know why you’re harping about Vorkath (who does have significant lore. His creator, a Dactyl Dragonkin who is seen with Kerapac in the Nodon dreamscape in RS3, made many dragons and deemed them to be failures, starting with Elvarg, then Vorkath, then in his dying breath Galvek.) now. I expect there would be a way RS3’s lore explains the dragon being here, a la Zuk.

I’ve already said what makes it relevant. Zemouregal is going to the island where Vorkath rests following the events of Dead and Buried. The island is the exact same one where Vorkath is fought in Old School. The email teases a familiar face with a draconic mural which isn’t Elvarg. In Old School RuneScape, Vorkath is considered susceptible to the effects of the Salve amulet, making it an “undead” dragon, and Zemouregal is a necromancer. In fact, we will be as well when the next quest drops.

At the very least, the Duke(chess/ux) of Fort Forinthry, the Raptor, and Siv will be involved. Three of the Forts primary figures (or two, following Sofia taking the Raptor’s tasks in Dead and Buried.)

The cast of characters would make it relevant to the Fort.

You’re still taking Azzanadra out of context. He didn’t mention Mahjarrat having an afterlife, but Zarosians. This makes it problematic for Erebus actually being a place for the dead because Zaros has a sprawling empire with many races, such as humans and vampyres and demons, and Death and Itchlarin don’t know about Erebus in spite of that, when it’s their job to ferry the dead to the afterlife. Erebus is more a place with anti-matter and “lost” characters. Not dead ones.

And again. Mahjarrat have no afterlife, just check the trivia section of the RS wiki page for Mahjarrat and take it up with them.
