Absolutely not, oldschool is slowly loosing its oldschool feel as it is! adding a new skill is going to make matters worse. I understand you guys must be constantly trying to find new things to keep oldschool alive and kicking, but all we really need is what we have, the biggest and best update you could ever do is halving the ammount of worlds available for members (maybe not half) ...this will make places populated again and also give the wilderness that edgy, dangerous feeling it used to have. I think i speak for everyone when i say the wilderness is dead, no longer is doing a clue in the wilderness a scary/difficult task, 1 stamina potion a lobster and spade is all i take now, i remember i used to take full d hide and half an inv of brews because i knew sh*t was going down! Especially with the arrival of deadman mode (which i am extremely excited for) the community is already going to be seperated.

... continued from former post:

Racing:
Racing is a good way your navigating skill.

You can choose to join competitions with NPC's or you can race your friends. Up to 5 friends can be challenged at a time.

All boats can join a competition but the faster boat and of course the higher sea navigating lvl, the better chance of winning. You can stake gp's with your friends if you want to. May the best win :)

Exchange goods with other cities:
- Tyras camp wants ores, bars and weapons for it's wars.
- Catherby wants you to sail their fish for them to other cities
- Rellekka wants you to sail their brew (mjöd) for them.

When you sail goods you are in risk of being attacked by pirates.

Some of the new discovered cities offers pearls and wants diving equipment. Other offers clothes wants grain etc.

If you choose to sails goods for a city, you can sell most of the stuff to other cities, but the more the city want the goods, the more gp you get. You cannot sail goods from a city and back to the same city. They don't want their own goods.

The far you sail, the more time it takes, but the more gp you earn and the more navigating xp you get.

Diving:
Sail the seas to the great reefs and go diving for treasures

If you’re lucky when fighting pirates, either on the sea or at land (there are several pirates in Brimhaven) you might get the hold of a treasure map.

- We already got the diving outfit.

This also improve your navigating skill, as you have to navigate to the treasure, and who knows who or what is guarding the treasure.

Repairing and improving:

Sailing consumes the ship over time, either of use or by fight. If your ship has been in a fight or the condition is poor, you have to fix it in the dock.

It is also possible to expand, improve and amplify the ship.

Thanks for reading :) I hope you can use some of the ideas :)

Kind regards

No, it won't need to be modernized. Oldschool mode was created for the people who didn't like the modernization going on with RS3. That's why it makes so many people mad when they add new things like this. They're advancing it just like they did EOC, and the only thing thats the same as it was back then is the graphics and skills. Now they're changing it all up.

Judging by this opinion, I presume you would rather OSRS didn't have any QOL or content addition whatsoever? This would mean no GE, no resizable mode, no elite clue scrolls, no rooftop agility courses, no new mobs, nothing. The game would be completely stagnated, and drive players away faster than almost anything other than the addition of EoC.

With EoC, RS3 literally changed the entire game. There is a distinct difference between change and overhaul, and I feel like people aren't necessarily making the differentiation. I would love to see my kitchen remodeled. I would hate to see my kitchen replaced with a garden. See the difference?

fair enough @ your last point. I'm currently very opposed, but before I go around spreading that this is a cancer idea, I'll wait for some more development on the idea.

Much appreciated. Why are you opposed, out of curiosity? From what I'm seeing out of this skill the PvP will be entirely optional, the skill itself will be optional, and it will open up the ability to explore lots of new areas and experience new content.

I just have trouble seeing why people are so extraordinarily opposed to the idea right from the start.

3 things:
1. I don't want an ultimatum for Rigour, Augury, and gem dragons; i.e., I want them, but not ONLY if we get sailing.
2. I feel like sailing/sea exploration is more suited for a minigame than a skill.
3. They've already made sailing a joke over the years (although, people enjoy Player Owned Ports in RS3, so hmmm... but then again, there's a very volatile relationship between RS3 and OSRS players and opinions...), especially by making it an April Fools joke last year. I feel like Sailing has lost its luster and appeal.
