People really need to drop the "it has been a joke for years"-attitude. That is not a valid argument to why this skill would be bad in any way.

It's just as stupid as i would invent a time machine and everyone says "omg you're so stupid, time machines have been a on going joke for decades in movies and science fiction!".

Pretend you've never heard about the Sailing concept before nor the jokes about it, and think again, why would it really be bad? If you still can find arguments to why it will be bad, then at least the arguments will be more valid.

Moving on from that ridiculous comparison, plenty of arguments have been made against it in this thread that aren't simply based on the fact that the Sailing skill is a literal joke , you choose to ignore them in your post because it suits your opinion.

My comparison was spot on tho, and i have read most other arguments too. Some valid.
Most are about "old joke blah blah" or "will take longer to max blah blah".

The few valid arguments i have seen have been about osrs losing it's old school feeling and such, which i can understand, and i dont have anything against those people with good arguments like those. But still most arguments against it here are childish and makes no sense.

I have mixed feelings about the Sailing skill. The skill itself appears to incorporate mechanics taken from a variety of existing skills, rather than a specific type of skill. The scope of Sailing also appears to be highly ambitious with new regions, monsters, and assets encountered. I dislike the idea of Pvp content being integral to a skill as well. Many high level skillers are ambivalent towards Pvp and being forced to participate in it would be undesirable for many of us.

It does sound interesting though and I'm curious how the community as a whole will perceive it.

My exact thoughts. I'm not exactly welcoming a new skill but are willing to be open-minded about it. I think Sailing can do a lot better if it doesn't involve PvP and already existing skills. PvP in particular seems very odd as it's an entirely different activity compared to skilling, the two just don't do well together.

Once what i miss is my most favourite skill, summon, but i can't return to runescape 3, because is unplayable, anyway i bought new PC, payed for fastest interned Speed, made water cooling System in my PC and each other user possible things.

I can't return on rs 3. So stupid People should not bring sentences how: go back.
I disliked dungeneering always, because it was so often with bugs and very laggy.
OSRS has not so difficult programs in it and i can Play it mostly whitout laggs. 85 % in last 3 months. This was much better as runescape 3 , this was since 2010 unplayable or only laggscape and bugscape. I can understand that People are angry because different things.

But do you think when both rs was playable i would only Play OSRS? I like OSRS more. No stupid Salomon Store, No stupid Treasure hunter and no stupid skills who not worked most of the time i tried to do them.

Yes OSRS is very much better as Runescape 3 with always frozen Screen since eoc was implemented there. This was the most fat mistake they made, because this programs not can work together with original rs engine.

But Sailing i think is not so a bad idea who much People think. But i had first thought it will come in Runescape 3, then was come Player owned ports and it was disappointing for me.

I am not against sailing as skill, only against pvp sailing, in other online game was it a very bad Thing, because bad experience with more Player fleets against one or 2 Player ships.
This i don't want again.

So the Suggestion of only pvp sailing worlds and no pvp sailing is to think about, But i ould not like this Advantage because then the same Unfairness will be how in R S 3 with dungeneering. Groups has Advantages and People who not find other to Play can only slow get xp or Levels or unlock skill related things. This i would very dislike.

I think we should wait for the poll, then we can see what most People like.

Please please please please please YES! How can anybody be disappointed by the idea of exploration and such a massive content addition? Oh god please make people realize how great it potentially could be and make every thing on the list pass 75%... New skill and a new continent. I cannot wait to see it come ingame. Hope everything turns out for the best (and by that I mean it will pass the poll) and we will see some fresh new areas, skills, NPCs, stories, quests and all of that. I just with for the devs to keep on making this awesome game better and bigger and moving forward with it in the right direction.

This is perfect, coming from someone that had their first account in 2001. This is what RuneScape has always needed. Don't let these teens have a word about what they want, they haven't played the game to know that sailing needs to be real. It has always been a dream, now it may be a reality.

Anyone asking for Summoning or Dungeoneering wtf is your thought process? Seriously?

Some of you even claim that one of the two is your FAVORITE SKILL ... WT*?! Why do you even play OSRS?

Some are happy about meaningless words such as Augury & Rigour. You do understand that there are over one hundred trillion other words we could call new prayers? And there are unlimited amount of different prayer mechanics the new prayers could utilise.
What about prayer auras? Prayer meditation? God-alignments with prayer skill trees to specialize each account differently? Or combining firemaking with prayer and magic to have more fighting mechanics and boosts.

Why is Summoning or Dungeoneering better than:
- sailing
- necromancy
- tanning
- taming
- shamanism
- politics
- navigation
- bard
- research
- archaeology
- sneaking
- foraging
- swimming
- social / clan skill

I could go on making better skill ideas that are more aligned with Gielinor map and lore.
Sailing gives great opportunity to bring in Zeah and show us fuller picture of Gielinor and its limits.

What is out there? And maybe in the future OSRS universe can expand to finish the quest storylines it has started and show a glimpse of other realms and the gods who created this place. Sailing is a step forward towards that endgame.
