My feedback,
Personally i liked Artisan more, and i doubt this would pass a poll, from reading all the comments, if we get 2 new Devs then i wouldnt mind you working on it some more, im all for new exploration, and new entrance to zeah through this skill, i say keep making it better, hold a new PDC so that the players can implement some ideas into the sailing to make it even better. I WOULD LIKE TOO SEE SAILING, but if it doesn't pass, as is likely, could you poll to add Gem Dragons and Augury&Rigour, i personally love the gem dragons in a cave idea, best ever. Hope this helps a little in some way. :)

When I saw Sailing, I immediately thought about AC3 sailing, since that's the gold standard in video games. And the only thing I could think that was missing here was trading: Why can't you hire crews to captain your ships while they go out on specified routes to trade in certain goods? It would provide smaller xp (since you're not running the ship), could result in damage/lost ships via pirates, and provide an income of goods a la Miscellania.

Alrighty, so I'm seeing a lot of varied responses and I wanted to touch on some of the more common ones.

"Adding a skill not present in RS3 undermines the idea of OSRS/muh nostalgia"

OSRS already has quite a lot of unique content as well as tons of QoL that wasn't present in 2007. If we want the community and game to grow , the game will need to be modernized over time and offer compelling content.

"This just sounds like a worse version of Dungeoneering"

Dungeoneering was limited to one very specific area in the game world and didn't really have its own focus other than dungeon simulation. It had a ton of content and was a lot of fun, but I feel like their goals for Sailing are a lot more aligned with what we generally consider to be a RuneScape skill than Dungeoneering ever was or could be.

Ultimately, Sailing can theoretically fill the exploration niche of Dungeoneering extraordinarily well if it's implemented in a compelling way. Just wait for more info before making a hard choice.

"I don't want this and never will"

We only have a tiny bit of information on this, so a fully formed opinion is literally impossible. Wait until we have a better understanding of what Jagex is looking to achieve before downing the hater-ade.

---

For what it's worth, I am extremely excited for the potential of this skill. I'm really hoping that Jagex provides full information before polling, because the likelihood of people just immediately shutting out the possibility of Sailing is much higher without it.

Jagex, even if the skill is perfect for the game you're probably going to have a lot of people with their fingers in their ears refusing the change. Please take the poll results with a grain of salt, because if this is done right it could be the coolest update ever released.

Sounds awesome! I really like the bold decision to include PvP and make existing skills useful. It'll be like an endgame skill that shows us the limits of Gielinor.

DO some of you want any updates at all to the game? Why would you want summoning that includes made-up "charms" that have nothing to do with the lore.

Sailing sounds great endgame content, just like dungeoneering but only better. Sailing is logical to the lore of the game and not just something made-up to get a new skill out.

I would love to have dungeoneering as a minigame.

Just Because they might add another skill dosent mean that OSRS will be like RS3. There is a VAST difference between the games, and one, or maybe two non-combat skills would not make it any closer to RS3, if that is the fear.

People who think this makes it like RS3 are stupid. I haven't seen this yet. Anyways, what people are worried about is the fact that Sailing has always been a joke, and it seems stale, too. Also, worries about the PvP aspect (though it's probably only certain routes), and XP rates for the other skills required. Also, that honestly this should just be a minigame, or not exist at all, and we just get the content like Rigour and Augury.

explain how it ''changed'' the way combat works... summoning is a very useful skill compared to sailing lol.

Summoning introduced familiars that made combat extremely easy. You could camp GWD for hours on end for one trip.

no that was a combination of al the folowing

torva
divine
cls/rapier
overload(now can use brews only)
yak
bonfire
prayer renewal
super prayer
spec restore
d claws

keep in mind pretty much everything in that list is very expensive / high levels required
99.99% of players will not have this

Every time the Sailing skill has ever been mentioned by the community before now it's been as a joke. This update...is a joke. Sailing is a mistake and you're going to ruin the XP rates of current skills with the release. There's a reason this was a past April fool's joke...keep it a joke.

Perhaps make it a minigame closer to player owned ports instead?

Idiotic post of the day.

Where exactly did you get they will ruin exp rates?
