Considering the only other way to get helpful tips and whatnot is the wiki, yes ppl would be forced to use it.

I mean you could say theres YT but that only helps out so much compared to wiki.

Plus id like to see what Dulcis Nex has to say about this if you dont mind.

Still not seeing the comparison, beside semantics. People know how to solve clues, they just don't want to. People go to Wiki and Youtube for help when they actually need it. I don't see anything wrong with players wanting help every now and then. That is a bit different to spamming the same script over and over to solve hundreds of clue scrolls for wealth.

The Wiki & YT are great community resources and most players know about them. Alt1 is a little more 'underground', you have to look further for it (and then download it), not a practice I'd like to promote if I were a game publisher. Anyway, that is besides the point so onto how the word 'guide' has been used on here.

Both provide guides - Wiki & Youtube use 'informative guides' whilst Alt1 provides a 'guide' in a paint-by-numbers sense - is that fair to say? Both are 'guides' yes, but how they 'guide' is where we should focus our attention.

The reason I am against Alt1 all comes down to how it operates. It reads your screen and modifies your game with overlays. Last I read that sort of thing was against the rules. I personally don't see how Wiki & Youtube can be compared as they demand a lot more of the player; having to read, interpret, understand information and then apply it. Surely cognitive ability counts at part of 'gaming' so why are we allowed to cheat that but not the mindless clicking of overlays? It seems like small-print exploitation to me, Alt1 found a loophole and has been running with it since. But I digress.

Alt1 is client modification (by proxy), it's whack-a-mole with your mouse cursor and indicator boxes. It's mindless, degrades the game and will lead to worse scripts being developed due to it being allowed (by omission). The game is meant to be played by humans, let's keep it that way. Cognition is part of the gaming experience. I don't want to see clickable indicator gaming become the norm.

I too would like to hear what Dulcis Nex has to say but lets not be rude

The problem with equating banning Alt1 and forcing people to use the wiki is that it's not inherently an either/or situation. Banning Alt1 doesn't mean QoL improvements can't be made to reduce people's reliance on external assistance to complete clues. That's ultimately a separate issue from whether or not Alt1 in particular is too harmful to the game to be allowed.

Regardless of where you stand on that, Alt1 shouldn't be treated as necessary to complete in-game content and things people find necessary to use it on should be adjusted to change that.

Frankly I wish alt1 actually was in the client and made things even better like runelite does. Also, if the wiki or other websites have solvers, what's the difference between using those on another monitor or in another window or letting alt1 do it on top of the window, other than one is more convenient? I've used tip.it and stuff like that since I made my account almost 15 years ago. Let's not pretend that slide puzzles and celtic knots are anything other than a waste of time, and that the game would be better off if they weren't in them. More fortunates would be in the game and so would more dyes, making "high level fashionscape" and EoF's accessible to way more players. On another note, the increase in average slide puzzle moves in the past to combat alt1 is the most backward solution I can think of. Sure, let's make clues worse for everyone by adding trivial difficulty but substantial amounts of time to every puzzle.
