Yes, I think it should be banned.

This is mostly due to a bad experience I had while playing Fish Flingers. At first, everything was fine, I was in a friends chat where people would make callouts for each fishing hint, people would kindly announce what you needed for each fishing spot and people moved as one whole group, things went along smoothly. I would sometimes be on the top 5 fishers.

But as time went on, people stopped making callouts, so I had to deduce the tackles, bait and distances myself. I started lagging behind and just assumed that everyone else were better and faster than me. It became more difficult for me to get 4/4 medals per round.
That was until someone started asking questions about how their Alt1 fishing hint system worked and guess what? The person who answered their questions was one person who regularly sat on 1st place for most fishing competitions.

It felt bad to me that I missed out on people helping me catch big fish because I had not downloaded some third party program. I had no interest in getting that program, I just wanted to play the game as intended and I felt punished for it. It's also unfair that these people also get 1st place on the game due to being assisted by Alt1, that's straight up cheating.

Sorry I haven't commented on here in a while, hope everyone is well!

@Oensk
Thank-you for commenting. This is a great example of how scripts like ALT-1 degrade the game and community for others that don't use it.

I agree, the mess has been swept under the rug because it'd cause more problems than it's worth (from a business standpoint). It's a longterm / integrity issue though, if they care about retention they'd do something about it. Maybe one day.

PS: If people threaten to quit because they're not allowed to cheat, then good riddance... Show them the door! I wouldn't want those kind of customers anyway...
That said, money from a cheater is the same money from a legit player, so -shrugs-

You see, the thing about cheating or illegal activity or legal or whatever, is that it depends on a community or society or government to define what is right or wrong. If something is cheating it is really only cheating because Jagex says so, sure there are probably reasons as to why Jagex as made it be considered cheating. Botting, yep, 100 percent should be banned they're not real players, it just brings greater inflation into the es economy. Yet, perhaps one of the greatest decisions Jagex did was to release bonds or allow the selling of Rs gold through them. Buying gold, something that was seen as cheating, could get you banned, is now socially acceptable and allowed (as long as it was done through bonds). One of the best Jagex could do is find someway to monetize the use of plugins. Though, some people probably wouldn't like it since they can already get all of this for free through other means.

True, whilst it 'technically' is not cheating (or so we're led to believe) I consider it so.
But that's just my opinion at the end of the day. Cheaters will cheat : "where there's a will, there's a way". That'll never change, but allowing scripts like these won't help either. It's a slippery slope. These things become the norm, then people look for the next advantage.

That we're having this discussion at all is pretty indicative that the clue solving community hasn't unanimously accepted Alt1. People becoming dependent on it also doesn't mean it's good for the game to keep it around or that it should stay indefinitely. There's a similar issue going on with silverhawks and proteans.

YT and wiki guides already got discussed earlier on in why it's not the same situation. Skip tickets I'm pretty sure were also talked about and the difference there is that they're items you receive in limited quantities as clue rewards, which you can either use or sell to someone who wants to use them. They're part of the economy and their use/availability is tied to clue solving.

We've had several players chime in so far on how Alt1 has negatively impacted the community and gameplay, as well as some discussion of ways it can be further abused if Jagex continues to leave it unchecked. Boss macros should absolutely not be allowed and cheating at bosses was one of the things mentioned as a potential use of Alt1 for cheating at the game. What do the botting and macro rules even mean if they leave such a blatant exception to be abused by players?

Two monitors I don't really see a problem with, gaming mouses seems a bit iffy for multiplayer unless for access ability reasons but that could probably be accounted for in some way. The main issue is macros and third party programs, which are something that's already supposed to be regulated by existing rules.

Not sure if I brought it up in this thread specifically but I did suggest that Jagex could set up a unified place for approved plugins and clients where only the ones they've checked align with their regulations can be posted like what some games already have. Stuff like that shouldn't substitute for features you're meant to unlock in game or alter gameplay. It should mostly be cosmetic stuff.

Wait, since when do clues give anything mandatory for high level pvm?

Essence of Finality - requires clues both to be created, as well to be maintained.
Oh, so thats how you craft that thing. To be honest, I've never looked into crafting it. And it's not absolutely necessary, as you can always just take the weapon. granted effects will be weaker due to tiering and all that, but still.

Honestly do think too much weight is put into weapon tiers. And we are given too much freedom in gear switching. But thats not really the topic of this thread, so moving on.

I fully support it banned being. I love doing clues and also get **** for not using it. IMO it kills the value of clues, and regardless of what everyone says I can't be convinced it's safe. Everyone used to say Swiftkit was safe and they had security issues and led to accounts being hacked. It's very much an unfair advantage

Honestly Alt1 itself isn't the problem. Essentially it is just a platform for other applications. I would argue that specific apps in Alt1 should be banned rather than the whole thing. One app that I honestly think should be a standard feature of the client is AFKWarden.

There have been numerous times I've been doing very low intensity activities and had the timeout sneak up on me without even really being afk.

In short, I support banning Clue Solver, but looking at the others case by case

by the looks of the new osrs client feature, its pretty much the same as how alt1 works for clues. so i doubt even more so it will be banned, only time would be is when rs3 client gets it also

Exactly.

Its beyond obvious that jagex is going in the direction of supporting 3P add-ons as its clear that loads of players use them thus would be best for business.

So hopefully they add some of the Alt1 features to the rs3 client soon.
