The whole game is built on some people having achievements that others don't have. It's not longer a serious achievement is everyone has it. 120 skills would be a lot less exciting if most people had them (and sadly, as time passes, more people will have 120 skills).

The achievement argument is the same for rares (hence the word "rare&quot ;) , which is all about owning something that people have to sacrifice a lot/work hard to achieve.

Communism will not work on Runescape.
If you are willing to chuck your most precious possessions like phats because someone said words like crashing/dying/quitting and then find yourself unable to rebuy for what you sold for, then you don't deserve to own a phat.

Instead of asking why phats are worth tens of billions, maybe people should ask why there are so many people worth tens of billions? Like it or not, phat prices adjust for inflation.

Back in 2008, you were extremely rich if you had 1800m cash.

I wonder if one of the goals of the Golden Phat is to redistribute wealth to more players. Since anyone that is a member can earn one during the promotional period, and a lot of players will probably liquidate shards etc to hoard Golden Phats, reintroducing that GP to circulation.

It can't give rough estimate as that doesn't count ALL accounts that logged in that day. Also, several groups will come from osrs to rs to get it. Don't forget alternative accounts.
40K? There are way more active members than that so that number will be easily reached, especially because there's 42 days to do the event.

Maybe you're right. I guess I'm just looking at the average current playerbase. Roughly 4 hours later the RS3 total player count has risen from 27,452 to 31,309 (p2p and f2p). I also wasn't thinking about everyone coming out of the woodwork for this item event if they have to do some work to obtain it.

Maybe Jagex will release a total number of GPHats introduced once the event is over similar to them stating how many black santas were put into the game?

The problem I have here is I don't see anyone wanting to sell their GPHat when they get it. Anyone who sells one for a couple of hundred mill would be out of their mind. But I guess it will just come down to each persons bottom line as to how much they will take to part ways with it.

If there's too much interest and demand in these gold phats, then Jagex will interpret the event as a success and will have huge financial incentives to repeat it again next year. Even if Jagex keeps its promise of not re-releasing gold phat, we're going to have this conversation again when they announce a silver phat or black phat 12 months from now. Demand for these new-decade phats are likely to get milked for all they are worth until people stop caring. There will be enormous interest.

What concerns me is the lack of understanding with how rs3 works by the other poster. Players were guaranteed that rares were discontinued. Making them untradeable might be fine, or reintroducing some number that were banned, but giving them to everyone is completely unfair. The entire game has worked around players striving for rares. There is no other lasting achievement in rs.

I started in 2005. 50k/hr in f2p and 300k/hr in members was good. It was actually pretty easy to get a rare, but they were seen as this permanent thing that would rise. It took about a week with gwd1 release to get a phat, if not less, especially after max combat was common from portal slaying. But hats are old now. D claw release was another easy time. 85 slayer also easy. Or double nat runecrafting with runners.

I made super weapon poisons for hours to get one. I had people working for me. It was a big business.
I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity. :(

Should the golden partyhat be the first discontinued rare to have a hard cap on the maximum a single account can hold to prevent hoarding?
Altscape, doesn’t work. Thousands of alts for some players. You would hinder hoarding, but those with alt armies would hoard a lot, creating massive profit for those few. I have 7 accounts, though I don’t really log in currently.

You could make people hold for 2 years after making 1, to prevent new players from selling immediately.

Thank you.

If you check that dude's profile, it's an alt that whose short history is to post extremist views and attack those who disagree with him just a few days ago.
