Despite all the debate going on here, the vast majority of us here all want the same thing: owning a good-looking crown that conveys status indicating that they belong to the few and successful in-game. The key here is EXCLUSIVITY.

By receiving a gold phat, a player without a CLASSIC phat can now think ... at little work, I too can be part of the elite club with a phat too!!!

However, with so many expected to go into the game, I don't see how a gold phat will accomplish that. Every player and his alt who wants to wear one will have a chance to make one.

If you are like 20 to 30 years old right now, maybe in another 20 - 30 years, this gold phat might mean something more by the time your kids are in college (if the game lasts that long).

But if people keep supporting more releases like this, then this gold phat won't ever get there. Next December, there could be a silver phat, then a black phat, then an orange phat, etc.

If your goal is to play the game for more than a few days, it's self-defeating to wish for more rares just because you don't have expensive rares right now. For any rare (hence the name rare), it's true value derives from its exclusivity, which means excluding most people from owning one.
If you are willing to chuck your most precious possessions like phats because someone said words like crashing/dying/quitting and then find yourself unable to rebuy for what you sold for, then you don't deserve to own a phat.

Every player expressing support for gold phat (just because they don't have a classic phat right now) is just asking to get screwed when Jagex interprets this support as approval for more similar releases in the future.

Short-term gains (yay, I get a gold phat!), long-term losses (oh no, did I express my approval for more releases like this in the future? What's going to happen to my gold phat next year when a black phat comes out?).

Being poor on RS is a temporary thing, but changing the structure of the game is a permanent thing.

You sure your name isn’t “Sea Salt”? Because you sound salty AF that this Gold Phat is being released. You’re in fear that it may impact the price of your pretty little blue hat on your head.

Should the golden partyhat be the first discontinued rare to have a hard cap on the maximum a single account can hold to prevent hoarding?
Altscape, doesn’t work. Thousands of alts for some players. You would hinder hoarding, but those with alt armies would hoard a lot, creating massive profit for those few. I have 7 accounts, though I don’t really log in currently.

You could make people hold for 2 years after making 1, to prevent new players from selling immediately.
I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? The travails of those lacking immunity. :(

I’ve always wanted new rares. It’s not the same as releasing old rares.

New rares involve new players, gives them a stake in the game. The game is either attracting new players, or it’s dying.

He obviously has more than just a phat set. He has always believed in and cherished rares, like an og Bitcoin investor.

Sea King might be correct that the new rare is too common, but new rares generally are a good idea. Maybe a bad implementation of a good idea? Anyway, it’ll probably make old phats worth more, like advertising. Except for yellow maybe. I cannot for the life of me manage to catch Covid. Perhaps it's because I didn't get vaxxed? I always laugh with your posts. Like, who cares if they release them every week? It is just a hat man! Play the game lol. You truly have to evaluate your life.

Screwed because Jagex release more beautiful hats to add to fashionscape? How does that work? Oh, I know! Is it because your whole existence relies upon a false sense of superiority given to you by blue hat? Or is it because the hat means so much to your 30 years old self? This is a sad story to be honest. I reckon you are the only person that gives that much value to a virtual paper hat. If I play in 30 years from now, it won't be because of a phat/rare. It will be because amazing content is being released and I have time to enjoy the game (if I don't find another hobby, just like the thousands of players who quit the game with the removal of the wilderness with multiple sets of your precious ( LOTD voice ) phat)

Keep releasing and rereleasing rares Jagex!

It’s unfair to destroy his account like that. He earned it over years of play.

Jagex needs to attract and retain new players, while keeping the old.
