nty, but having all maxed players would increase the viability of content
the easier it is to max, the better our endgame content, the better the longevity of the game

I read an interesting suggestion somewhere at some point that I can't seem to find now that suggested 120 skills come with the new continent, and be restricted to it. That way, when you're in the current continent, all skills are still limited to 99 and you can't do/use anything above that, keeping things non-OP for the current continent. In contrast, the new continent would have new stuff that makes 120 stats and items non-OP, much harder bosses, etc.

It was a pretty great suggestion.

Very interesting suggestion imo. I need to think on it some before commenting on it further.

Ty for your post.

No problem.

Any thoughts now? :P

Also, support the idea at RL Idea #41941!

First Jagex would have to revamp, rework, & rebalance all existing skill content then create new skill content for levels 99 - 120. If Jagex did all of that I would definitely support the level increase.

I do agree with this, though. If Jagex releases 120s without fixing some of the currently-existing skills...

Whew...

The game wouldn't last long, if you ask me. :|

It's one thing to be maxed and a completely another thing to get 104m xp. I don't see the reason why Jagex should focus on high level content as much as would be required for 99-120. A lot of that content would also be rather dead since, according to RS Wiki, the number of 120s is still rather low (other than dung but that's obvious due to completionist and how fast xp it will be in the end).

Well, true, but we're not talking about now. We're talking about...

THE FUTURE!

Lol.

But no seriously, I mean, with new training methods and therefore presumably faster XP rates, it would happen. Also, with more incentive to train that high, more people would get there.

I supported this years ago before I had a 120, I say do it for all skills. Also, we need a prestige system in place some of you quacks talk as if this game is meant to be beaten, I want to level up my favorite skill as long as possible, if a prestige system is meant to do this great.

Unfortunately the crybaby maxed/leaderboard elitest handicap kids cried about that, and Jagex pandered to said small niche group.

All "flaming" aside.

They should have implemented a prestige system, because then we wouldn't have to be dealing with the "inevitability" of increasing the level cap when we get to level 99 gear, unless Jagex deals with that by entirely ignoring it and never releasing higher tier gear than 90. Which would be insanely boring.

As an owner of a 120 cape myself (Mining) I can still say my end goal is to max my stats, after that all my goals are money-related.

It will reach a point one day where we will need every skill to go to 120 in order to keep producing new content, however I do not believe that it will come one day soon, and is still a couple years off.

Agreed with all three.

With Invention serving as high-level content for the artisan skills, we should see those skills raised to 120 to make the most of Invention. Given how the gathering skills are meant to feed into the artisan skills, those should also see an increase, although maybe after the first "wave" of Invention. I could see the Expert Skillcapes going to the point of requiring True Skill Mastery (So basically True Expert Capes), but maybe Combatant and Support should happen later. Jagex would want 120 skills to take up a massive update, and artisan and gathering skills would be enough, while combat skills would likely cause a great divide in the combat system that Jagex would want to avoid. Then you have the planned Mining/Smithing rework. Maybe just start with those two skills and work up to the rest of them?

Agreed. This is why I think the best implementation system would be to restrict the new 120s to a new continent, as mentioned in my post on page 24 and quoted on page 29.

It has the potential to open up the end game, not just for the fact that there'd be more training to do, but additional content that would otherwise eventually crowd the current high levels.

There would have to be a level scaling system to prevent trivializing old content, but at the current rate that's already going to happen if they keep introducing better max gear.

Also 99-120 represents a significant investment of time, that most people can't achieve. I like how maxing has become easier because it has shifted the focus from grinding to experiencing new content which gives the developers incentive to work on more challenging/engaging content.

If it were to happen it would be done best accompanied by a slew of new content. Maybe an entire continent full of new bosses and higher level monsters that would call for the higher skills and while on the mainland they would scale back to 99.

Edit: I only suggest the 120 max for the purpose of making room to introduce new content, not to do extend the grind exponentially. For that reason, I would say xp required to level after 99 should plateau, meaning 99-100 only requires ~100-300k additional xp than was required for 98-99.

Disagree with the edit, agree with the rest.

I actually mentioned doing that same thing (restricting the 120s to a new continent) in an earlier post. It's a brilliant solution to practically, if not literally, all the problems.

Support that idea at RL idea #41941!
