Leaving out all the drama, chat, event and other potential issues from combining the RS3 and OSRS systems, most people are against combining them due to some main technical issues:

1. Completely different games and being limited to one clan across two separate and unrelated games.

2. RS3 is currently struggling with an outdated FC system because of the link with OSRS. We are still being held back from getting a major FC overhaul (increased capacity, more ranks and permissions, customisable features etc) which caters to RS3's large minigames & D&D's community because of the amount of engine work it requires, the size of the job across the two games and a lot of needed RS3 FC features which the OSRS engine and its limitations do not support.

If the clan systems are to be combined in the same way, we can expect the same issues with clan chats in the future and we won't be getting some needed updates (at least as fast as we'd like them), some things wouldn't be technically possible and we will be held back by that link. I don't think anyone would like this to happen.

3. OSRS clans are likely going to be entirely different from RS3 clans. For example, they might not have citadels, avatars etc. As their system will be entirely different, it doesn't make sense for them to be combined in any way.

What everyone wants is the ability to chat cross-game with your clan(s) and not necessarily membership cross-game, which can be achieved with separate and independent systems.

It's a win-win situation for everyone, technically and socially.

@Progs:

Can you clarify what you mean by " not necessarily membership cross-game," ?
That , at least to me is a confusing statement.

In the end , even though personally I have no problem with a combined system, I think 2 separate clansystems is probably the best solution.
However when a player is a member of an RS3 clan and playing in OS, he/she will still technically have a cross-game membership. You are either a member of a clan or not, regardless what type of the game you are playing at a given time. Even if JAgex decided to only let people guest 'across statelines' they will still, wile showing as guest when doing so, still be the same clanmember they normally are.

Idea to solve this on an easy way: The smiley rank for Clan Chat! This rank can join when guests are off. Or we can turn guests to off/friends.

2 situations u can get this rank:

- U are part of the RS3 clan and u join the Clan Chat from OSRS.
- U are on a white/guest list (this has been suggested before), these can join when guests are turned off for example and are not part of the clan!

Downside: The persons not part of clan or on white/guest list can contact a leader to get an add for the list to join the clan chat when guests are turned off.

^ This way we do not have to extend the max limit of players inside a clan. I do not know if there is a maximum of guests/people that can be in a clan chat

i want my oldschool clan members to talk in clan as clan members

and i want friends of clan who are always guesting to have smiley :) rank

if friends had smiley :) oldschool can be angry :@ we also need mute just to stop the cross game ranting's .

i do have clan members who play both and some only play oldschool .

Next ?
what happens to those clan members playing Chronicle // Idle Adventures!

Well if it is possible to let people who are in the RS3 clan get the same rank, then maybe that is better yes. But will guesting from OSRS be allowed to then?

And the smiley idea is a discussion for another topic I guess, but I do support it ;)

The community's from Chronicle/Idle Adventure are less great and it is a compelty different game so I don't see the need for them to join a RS3

Membership cross-game as in being a member of one clan only across the two games. Meaning if you are in an RS3 clan, you won't be able to join an OSRS clan and vice versa.

With separate systems, you would be able to join an RS3 clan and an OSRS clan, with the ability to chat cross-game; for example, if you are on OSRS, you'd be able to chat with your RS3 clan, and vice versa.

I agree on the ranks. About other Jagex games I am less concerned, but I would not mind them being linked. Remember Funorb? If I recall correctly there was cross game communication there also.

Lastly: yes we really need a mute button , to mute individual bad behaving ranked clanmembers, if that is what you mean.. on top of that we really need some more upgrades.
I tell my admins to, in the rare instance that a clanmate misbehaves and does not stop, derank them to recruit and temporarily mute that whole rank. Sadly this also mutes real recruits and guests, but I do not want clanmates perm kicked from the clan in the heat of a problematic moment. We decide what to do with them later, calmly.

But that is also a discussion for elsewhere.

Gotcha and in that case agreed.

I'm in favor of being able to join guest-chat in RS3 clanchats from other versions of the game. If you're online and playing any version you can private message anyone, or join any friends chat. Makes sense for clan chats too.

I wouldn't mind that. But regardless of what Jagex does, they should redesign the RS3 Clan Chat Legacy Interface because that icon to expand is rather annoying to use. And it'd be a concern to add more icons there for those who play the game using Legacy Interfaces.

I like that idea of the OSRS clan, but why not allow people from OSRS just to guest RS3 clans?

Because apparently thats too simple of an idea and we need 100 pages of random conversation about other things lol.

It's called brainstorming Scret. Look it up, it's a useful tool for coming up with good ideas.

Too bad all it leads to is getting off topic and the original idea lost in translation, which i find a big problem in general and probably a leading cause of why fixes are so few.

No need to actually fix problems when we can spend a year talking about them.

Wonder how much brainstorming went into DarkScape
