We, also, have experienced an increase in growth. The open clan chat is working well. We had not really recruited many before the probation, but opening the clan chat helped a lot.

Thank you, Mod Matthe, for the update. I look forward to hearing about the results.

Would also like to add since the update my clan has also seen a boost in recruitment, not entirely sure whether that's due to the update, our staff reshuffle or its just due to this time of the year (but from previous data I keep it doesn't seem this time of the year is that good for recruitment).

We have increased our clan member list by 28 members since the update, (which is about a 23% increase) and I do believe it is at-least in part due to the update; people are spending longer looking for clans, finding the right clan for them; meaning we are catching more people who are closer aligned to our community.

Also, I'm looking forward to seeing what Jagex (Matthe & co.) think of the proposed suggestions. ^^

While it seems like a great idea for maintaining clan members, there's a huge reduction in exposure when there's a cooldown on being able to join. I 100% agree that clan benefits need a buffer period, but the actual joining is unnecessary.

With a week long time someone can't be in a clan, a lot of people I've noticed are unhappy but won't leave in a pretty good number of different clans. Plus there are always people who aren't happy, but not unhappy, not enjoying their clan experience because there's such a hindrance to joining a different clan and exploring new opportunities.

I'd never want to trap a member in my clan by force. If they want to find somewhere else better suited for them, why get in the way just to have a higher member count?

What about the idea people can keep their anagogic orts now? Since there is a week cooldown for joining a new clan they can't use clan avatar a week anyway... Why making that an extra day for collecting orts.

It was only 2 days before (since you could join, get 200 orts in one day, 100 the next day to use the avatar) but yeah, can we please keep orts upon leaving a clan now?

Just popping in here AGAIN to say that we STILL haven't recruited any new clanmembers since this change went live.

We're on a slow, eventual path to a dead clan at this point.

If only someone had warned of this. Oh wait...

@ Colifin It saddens me to read about your struggles. We'd be in a similar situation if not for one council member who is an amazing recruiter.

I'd say we're succeeding not because of the change, but despite it. If we were a new clan or had stringent requirements, we'd be having a difficult time.

I had one person who was going to join us this week. He left his clan and guested with us the whole time.

In the end, he decided not to join, saying that we're not talkative enough. Which is impossible to fix if we can't recruit new members. Thus, the vicious circle.

This is always the problem that my clan has faced. People complain/leave/won't join over something that we need more members to do (events, general chat, etc). However, we can't get more members because they won't join because there aren't enough members. So, we slowly bleed away members until at some point in the future we have to shut down completely.

This was exacerbated by the new cooldown system. Previously, we could recruit any random player off the street who was interested. No questions asked. Most of them didn't stick, but some did. We had a small but continuous flow of new members into and out of the clan, trying it out. Now, we have to convince them to leave their current clan, have them guest for a week, have them actually enjoy their experience for a whole week , stay on top of them to guest/invite, and then get them to finally commit. It's simply too much of a process for most players, and frankly nobody in my clan is willing to go to that much effort to recruit.

Any player who IS willing to go to the effort to truly find "the right clan for them" simply isn't going to choose a no-requirement social clan. Hell, there's no way they would even find out about us.

What frustrates me above all else is that I pointed out that this is exactly what was going to happen. And imagine that, it has...

My clan is a no requirement social clan and we've been doing fine since the update.

My advice is just to recruit hard, do a mass recruitment drive. The only concern we had when we did that was that the clan environment was rapidly changing, but over time the active committed players get involved in the chat and understand the way it's run and you get a more stable environment that makes it worth doing which doesn't take too long.

Burthorpe w2 is probably the best place to do recruitment drives, especially at reset time due to the numbers and diversity. Just try to get someone's attention and get them interested.

Once they're in, welcome them with an ice breaker that encourages them to chat proactively.

After that you probably just need to sort out how to moderate the chat with your admins.
