What happens to both scammers & failed scammers?

My clan "Bonus XP" is currently being targeted.
Most of us here know of these people & I know it has happened to many clans here.
My question is what happens to them?

We are currently having someone/someones creating accounts with similar names to senior members & trying to get 'loans' from members.

I guess only a J-Mod can really answer, because I'd like to know if someone deliberately creates these dummy accounts, tries to scam from clans but is unsuccessful but of course still gets reported, how far does Jagex go?

Do you ignore it?
Do you ban that individual account?
Do you research which other accounts they are connected to & ban them?

Or do you only ban when someone scams successfully?
YOU WIN OR YOU LEARN

Jagex usually investigate any reports from players into scams if the report button is used, but as always these types of investigations are not revealed to players. However they do take action and you hear about a lot players who have been banned with the offence "Manual Permanent ban" which is normally applied by a member of ICU for lots of different reasons, one of them being Scamming or Hijacking. So best way to deal with any sort of rule breaking is through the game.

As for your clan being subject to those imposter accounts the best way to deal with these types of issues is to make sure all of your clan members are aware. You can easily report these players in game and then ban the imposter accounts from your clan chat, but they may shift into PM for contacting your members.

So the best policy is awareness and making sure your members are really careful about trust trades. In my clan the philosophy is, "If you are not willing to part with something then don't trade it to anyone". I do understand within clans there are players that may have certain friend groups who they will be more trusting towards, but then it's up to those players to double check they are trading/lending to the right people.

Team speak and other forms of verbal communication is a good way to verify who you may be trading the items over to but again the best way to combat such things is just to be super careful. Some clans have a very trusting culture, and that's a good thing, but in this day and age it's pretty much a world where you should really be a little bit careful when anyone asks you to trade them anything or do something for them. It's sad that it's become like this but with all of the ways to get scammed/hijacked it's really the best way to go.

I hope this has helped :) .

As
Lone
mentioned, definitely mention what's happening with the rest of your clan mates. I would make that transparency a priority, so as to prevent people from getting scammed.

And any doubt or unease bringing up this topic might incur will be worth preventing people from being taken advantage of, because now they're informed. This respect toward your clan mates is worth admitting that your clan is having issues, and your clannies will develop a deeper sense of trust in the clan as a result.

If temporarily blocking the CC to guests won't work because these conversations are happening over PM, then I agree with previous posts in that the most effective option would probably be to make clannies as aware as possible about the importance of being careful for things like this.

We try to encourage people not to do trust trades in clan. And we do ban our own members who scam. I don't believe my clan is a target from what u say...

I guess u must inform that leader/high/trusted ranks have a certain rank in clan and they never have alts as guest or so to ensure it is not you/trusted member.

just lock the cc for a bit till they give up imo

This works less well when these kind of scams tend to occur over PM.

but if the cc is locked they have to work harder to find people who are online, as well as then if the person looks at the cc they will see that whoevers name they are copying is either there but slightly different or isn't there at all.
