Most Clans have a
Clan Rule of not begging for ranks, items nor money.
That tends to mitigate most scams because your Clanmates will report them both to Jagex via the in-game reporting system and to the Clan Leaders to get them banned from the Clan as they will know not to trust anyone begging for stuff.

As a Clan Leader, I wouldn't advise you to ignore them unless they're spamming you so can you moderate what others are writing on your Clan Chat.

Jagex would review all scam reports and either mute or ban them if they determine an offense has taken place. ;)

Our clan has been targeted today sadly. We've reported the impersonator who pm'd one of our members and asked for a loan. We're informing cc about this scam. If your clan hasn't be targeted yet, I suggest you guys inform members just in case they'll target you next ~~~

Only best course of actions is for people to personally get smarter about scams, if you unscammable then scammers will stop.

We had this a few days ago. Someone called Arneiios instead of Arnelios send private messages to me and other clan members. Obviously one of the i's was written in caps to make it appear like an L. Makes you wonder who decided the current font was a good idea. Part of the

Our clan has been targeted with this scam today, fortunately everyone was sufficiently warned following this thread a few weeks ago, and we posted warnings on the clan forum.

As we all know the most common name copying is with players with the letter 'L' in their name in lower case, and replacing it with a higher case 'i'. I'm wondering if we could actually see a change of this and make a capital 'i' actually stand out differently, looking more like; http://puu.sh/ozp5r.jpg

I think this alone would stop a few scams happening and it's a common luring method, players tricking others into skulling in the Wilderness.

Just a suggestion :}

Agreed with
Jamo
, would be an easy and not to mention more aesthetically pleasing update. Annoying when someone tries to give me a code or something and I can't differentiate capital I from lowercase l.

A change of font is the only way to solve our font related problems.

closing cc to guest is not an answer as its not always done in clan

i had 1 clan member leave clan when she was scammed in ge by a hi ranked clan member .
because she demanded i kick them. having known this player for 5 years i refused to.

Why would someone with over a B in bank need to borrow a bond from a noob its not logical
But its very hard not to believe your own eyes when you see something .

So i have Banned trust trading in my clan = never give anything you cant afford to lose.

If you do its your own fault dont blame the clan

I have banned duelling for the same reason when a player is so addicted to duelling that he has to scam friends to pay for his addiction and pulls the same scams / non payments of debts.

Sorry for my lack of response, I've been locked in a freezer & was unable to get out.
Thanks everyone, particularly L0NE DRUID for that extra effort that is often thankless.
I'm glad this was able to help some clans, I myself was made aware of this from a thread in this forum well prior to mine.

As far as I know no clan member was successfully scammed.

My immediate response, even before posting this thread, was to inform the clan via a detailed post on our recruitment thread about what was happening, & also asking those who read it to spread the word in CC - yes awareness is certainly the best defence.

I also locked clan chat to guests for a few days for the reasons mentioned in this thread - scammers then have to do more work to find out who's online.
It's not something I like to do as a rule, but it's correct in certain situations & a few days is usually enough.

I'm disappointed there's been no
Gold
feedback. I'm trying to find out if these people are free to continuously make new accounts for the purpose of scamming clans.

Something that's really important, which I'd like feedback on even if they won't provide any information about how scammers are dealt with, is:

Jagex
, do you accept that you facilitate this by having a capital i indistinguishable from a lower case l in in-game usernames, & will you do the work to make this (SURELY SIMPLE?) fix, so that no 2 names can appear identical?

I mean until that happens, it's really hard to believe they're even taking us seriously.

If you're already on it, I'll be pleasantly surprised, & I thank you
:)
