Ye of course & you & I plus everyone probably mention this in their clan but it isn't a solution.

How does Jagex suggest these players report the scammers for review?

Clearly the scam is working, to say "

However saying "well just recognise it then!" isn't a solution either, as you get all types of clan members, some will be inexperienced, some will be from non english speaking countries & not do all the reading that's available, some will want to be helpful to senior members for all sorts of reasons, some will be tired &/or distracted, some just have a kind heart & don't often say no, at the end of the day we want the attempted scamming stopped instead of just making people tighter with their gp, yes it would be great if their was instant recognition that it isn't a clanmate,

& Jagex can assist with this by not making different names look identical.

Im sorry but it is the solution, if youre getting scammed then you have to take some of the blame yourself. At the end of the day its entirely up to you to secure your items yourself and to make sure yourself, its how we handled it back in the day the new generation of runescapers are too bubble wrapped as it is and will go to Jagex at any given opportunity.

I hear about how some people get scammed and i have to say i find it hard now to find enough sympathy because im not sure how many times people have to be told for it to sink in for them. There really are enough warnings and fail safes out there already but people choose to ignore them.

I personally dont find handing out items and gold to people to be generous either, all it does fuel the begging mentality, let people go out and earn their items and they might not be so eager to give it away.

Thats not to say there are still possible changes that can be made to help though as mentioned here.

I understand your view point Scret, I do, however CuddleBucket is right by saying; "don't be so generous" & "well just recognise it then!", is not the solution. Saying those things only puts a patch on the problem, and the underlying issue is still there and will forever be there. I also totally agree with the comment regarding players running to Jagex over any issue, rather than just submitting a bug report, or following the appropriate procedures put in place to deal with issues, or even if it's such a tiny issue it doesn't really need fixing and they'll still cause a scene, however this is a serious issue and it needs to be dealt with, sooner rather than later.

In reply to your other comment, many players aren't on social media, forums, Skype, Teamspeak and so on to see the warnings posted every where, and they're not always on when the warnings are being broadcasted in the CC.

It's also not a case of begging either or just handing out items either, sometimes a friend, on a rare occasions may ask for a small loan (of a million dollars) and you just want to help them out. I've done this many a times and because I'm extremely careful I won't fall a victim to the impersonators scamming.

The point being though the underlying issue will always be there no matter what Jagex does, the only people responsible are those who get scammed and its up to them to fix the problem themselves or just deal with it.

You dont have to be on social media, Jagex has warnings about scamming in general for those who care to read about it, but then again how many people read safety guidelines before playing the game?

I dont agree with scamming but i do consider it just part of the game and being scammed is you losing at the game just like being bluffed in a game of poker, thats my runescape classic mentality and i know newer players wont see it that way.

We have to remember It is just a game after all.

You say that it will always be a problem, yet Jagex have done a brilliant job on getting rid of lures etc, it's very rare nowadays to be lured. The only known lure that is actively used right now is the Abyss lure. Besides that I hear of none other, and when you go back over a year or two ago there was so so many different methods, and you heard about people being lured constantly.

Yes scamming is part of the game, part of the game rules and a part that you will get banned if caught, so yes it is a problem and there's no ifs, of buts, it's a huge problem Scret and a lot of players are being scammed. Blaming the person getting scammed is rather unfair. There are a lot of people out there that aren't careful enough, and I would agree with you if they've been scammed before, we can go by the saying; "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me".

Again I agree with you when you say if they've been scammed they should move on and learn from it, as mentioned above, and hopefully they won't be fooled twice, but prevention is better than a cure. Players should not have to learn a lesson the hard way, by loosing what they've worked so hard for. I understand you may argue that by saying; "If they worked so hard for it they shouldn't be so careless", we have already discussed this and yes players are too careless, there's no doubting that.

Scret your views are terrible :( & in no way caring or inclusive.
If they are your views I doubt I can change them, but wow........ what a horrible community we would have if sharing & emotional support regardless of circumstances was discouraged. Really awful point of view Scret, you don't seem to understand that you are using your own perception to make judgements on others, & that my friend is the definition of intolerance. Also you've misquoted my post so that it doesn't even make sense.

Jamo thanks for taking the time to respond, I know how long those posts take, I'm trying to limit my time on forums but I wholeheartedly add my voice to yours.

This is the post that Scret tried to quote, & all the arguments still stand, as well as the question of how Jagex suggests reporting these players.

Clearly the scam is working, to say "don't be so generous" is ridiculous, if there's a mistake it's in not recognising that the person isn't a clan member.

My views are from a time were games were thought of as games and that people had to become smarter themselves in order to succeed and not getting taken advantage of, thats how it was but unfortunately too many people rely on Jagex.

What kind of community would we have you ask, well one that can take care of themselves for starters. Its my point of view that people are more susceptible to scams because they are part of a bubble wrapped community were its the norm to blame someone else for something thats ultimately their own fault.

I will keep telling people its their own fault because i believe the truth will help in the long run, its called tough love doesnt mean im any less caring.

Ive played for 14+ years and theres always a new scam around the corner.

I personally dont even consider luring as something that should be part of the rules as deception and getting one over on people is part of games and was absolutely part of the old runescape, but weve reached a point were people are saying they shouldnt even be allowed to be killed in the wilderness because its not fair.

I dont see it as a problem because its so easily preventable and just part of gaming in general.

They use to have messages about scams on the login page which was brilliant, but they removed it in favour of micro transactions.
