I just came across a thread with a really great suggestion (it was for OSRS, but would work even better on RS3).

The idea was (well, when paraphrased/adapted, a little) to allow the Burthorpe GamesRoom games to be played anywhere, with anyone, via an interface that could be open without interrupting skilling actions.

This would allow people to make use of the content, and have fun with RS, while skilling (and might make people slightly less hostile towards Minigames, if they can see them in a slightly more positive light).

Given we already have a matchmaking system, and this is one of the few instances where it'd actually have a mostly positive application, I think this could work really well!

There's even potential, if it succeeds, to have some of the other applicable Minigames adapted to work that way - Conquest would be a very good candidate for this, but there is potential with some of the others, too (or versions of them, at least).

Some considerations:
• It would need to be independent of the 3D GameWorld interface (the camera area), so that people could see the skilling node, to click on, while having their BGR-games interface open.
• The games may need re-making, from the ground, up (in fact, that's almost a certainty), so current ratings would likely have to be archived, and a new system started.
• The selection of games is good, but it may be that some changes, or additions need to be made, to ensure popularity, or avoid infringements.
• The size of the interface could easily fit into most screens, but that will need looking into.
• Timers for turns would likely have to be default option, to prevent the ability to troll people by locking them into a game that's not being played (holding their rating hostage).
• Rewards may be good idea, but could be negative. Perhaps having most of the rewards come from structured tournaments, would work best? That way it doesn't effect everyday play.

I do find it irksome that they couldn't update and add to the rewards for MA, for so many Years, yet suddenly were magically able to do so, when they were moving them away from MA.

Yes, it would have been best to fix MA, before adding/updating the rewards, but given the major arguments they use for not fixing things, has things not being used much as one of the key aspects: Adding those rewards would have increased traffic, giving the justification to fix it (though then they'd not want to, because, for some weird reason, they refuse to make stuff take longer, if it was taking a shorter time when broken - despite that being because it was broken ).

Further, with regards the individual reward redistributions, I am very disappointed in their choices:

• Lower tier Imbued rings to SoulWars - OK-ish, the only one that I can partially get behind.
SWs did need new (additional) rewards, but it remains boostable, and doesn't have a good rewards system. The rings are imbued and there's not a lot of link to SWs, with that, unless they've changed it to being imbued with souls.

• Higher tier rings to Raids - while it's good that they are trying to keep group-content relevant, Raids already have a decent set of rewards, and are just about the least deserving group content, to have more stuff.
Imbuing came from Minigames, and should have stayed from Minigames .
Regardless of my reservations for the Miningame being SWs, they should have been put there, or at another Minigame.
Risk is not a factor, as you're using up equipment charges, risking time, and paying for supplies; you can make it take longer to obtain, if needing a necessary off-set - there is no reason high tier stuff should not come from Minigame content, if the content is balanced.
Having worthwhile rewards to aim for, while going for trim, means people would actually use that time to play, rather than AFK - they're spending time there for that, so can't complain about time taken

(more on that, later)

• Locators - What? They said they would be removing those, as they were not something that could be made relevant, in today's game..
These should have gone to a Minigame , not a skill.
They magically find out they're able to make them up-to-date, when they aren't coming from Minigames? Talk about prejudicial treatment.

• Outfits - Well, as far as I'm concerned, nothing should be going to Thaler, given it's a reward for AFKing in Minigames. As it is, they were, like almost every Thaler-shop item, vastly underpriced, compared to the time investment they previously required (even if you assume the person was boosting MA); what's more, they are all the same price.. when they were progressive unlocks, with each stage being a further challenge.
The only positive factor in all that, is that it's not a reward from an existing Minigame (now that MA is removed), so it isn't stealing rewards directly from one.

• Titles - Pretty much the same as the outfits, and it makes little sense that NPCs would give you that accolade, for doing something completely unrelated.

• Investment Credits - Well, I'm glad they gave something for these, but given the value of credits, to what you had to put in, it should have been 1 Credit = 2.5 GP (could have been 1=3), given the way they are calculated, vs items' values.

• Reward Credits - These should have been 1 Credit = 7 GP, if keeping roughly the same raito.

In my (biased) opinion, all the non-cosmetic rewards should have gone to GoP, as it has no unique rewards, and desperately needs something. The items (Imbuing, and locating), both involve magic, and imbuing, which are key aspects of Runecrafting.

Their argument that "combat equipment shouldn't come from non-combat content" is just ridiculous.. there are entire skills based around that premise, and several that have a large element of providing things for combat.

@Yusou

Would leave some commentary to the MA stuff and their aftermath:

- SW was a horrible choice for those (older) imbues due to its currency system. Without buffs. Those could have worked as a CW silver ticket reward (I mean imbuing just implies it's enhanced with magic, but their source could've been well whatever), as those are except for a low two digit number entirely useless as well - but well they honestly aren't worth a single zeal - and even diamond/dragonstone are fairly questionable. Imbued onyx rings and those fremmenik ones at least sorta are interesting to low levelled players, who can't afford/obtain higher levelled rings. Agreed with the raid stuff, that was wasted potential as those actually are great rewards for once.

- Unless locators are super cheap (once more talking about CW silver ticket dimensions), they couldn't be made interesting minigame rewards (right now). Divination certainly wasn't the worst choice. They have removed the quest kit as it always was niche, but certainly had no more role in the modern game. I mean - maybe they're using a chance making locators appealing with the m/s rework, maybe...

- Outfits: The price was a bad joke certainly, but you shouldn't forget it is just a cosmetic non-override set - basically worthless today. Some wrong sense of achievement shouldn't be the reason to make it more awful to obtain than it should be. I know I am using this the third time now in that thread - but they could've been good CW silver ticket rewards (I'd say something around 1000 for all sets, with some scaling towards the higher levelled variants)

- Titles: Agreed with that.

- Credits: I guess they just wanted to prevent influxing a massive amount of GP for potentially otherwise worthless items. I honestly am happy I got compensated for the stuff I had put in.
Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
Quick Fixes: Invention
