Ever noticed how any character that becomes our friend swiftly dies within 2-3 quests?

This is true for a lot of characters, but we've still got Zanik, Korasi, etc.

Though for some reason I hear a lot of people hate Zanik.
Ramsay Bolton is the king we deserve.

The Kindred Spirits quest actually made me lose a lot of respect for Sliske.

For me, Sliske's appeal as a character was that he was a loose cannon. Now they tied him to some unknown master.

The next appeal, was that he was cunning and devious, and liked to get a laugh out of all the drama that was unfolding... then he had us torture the Barrows Brothers for the lolz. Nothing dramatic there, since he already knew their darkest secrets and was really just trying to tarnish their reputation to the player. It felt really out of place for me - not because I thought him above torture, but because he was having us torture them for torture's sake, and in no way did it further his goals.

Then there were the implications that he had Godless leanings, or was a World Guardian... both proven wrong.

Zanik dies regardless of your decision. You can kill her by your own hand, or she dies soon after the quest finallie. Korasi or Jessica literally did die within 3 quests, and we never talk to the survivor again.

IN THE NEW QUEST

She is resurrected to replace Nomad, if you so choose, as the new guardian of the Soul Obelisk - or is given the option to move on to the afterlife. However, she only has several years left to live if this is chosen.

Zanik... no...

This game suddenly just became very depressing. Everyone's dying. Even the Signature Heroes are slowly being killed off or corrupted.

On the subject of Signature Heroes, I found none of them particularly interesting. They were all stereotypes, and most of them one dimensional too. Sir Owen may have resorted to dark means to solve his problems, but he was still a total boyscout and a one dimensional character. Ozan was the stereotypical lovable rogue from a criminal background, oozing with 'charm' and 'wit'. Ariane was the nerdy mage girl who wants to learn more and more, and share that knowledge with others. Raptor is your typical big-beefy-warrior who goes around killing things for the challenge, likely meant to represent all the tryhards who only care about PVP and bosses. X*nia was the stereotypical old mentor figure, and Linza wasn't all that prominent.

When they were first announced, Jagex clearly intended to do more with them, but their one-quest-per-month policy placed a huge limit on that. And since they were introduced so late into Runescape's existence, it was hard for most players to view them as iconic characters, or get the feeling of growing and leveling up alongside them since they were already high level.

In reality:

Xenia and Linza were rogues who wouldn't trust us. They died as a result.

Ozan is a boyscout, and his idiotic loyalty to someone other than me got him cursed.

Ariane and Ozan trust and will co-operate with the player. This has kept them alive.

The Raptor is smart. If he isn't characterised, he can't be killed for drama.

I went to the Varrock Museum. The receptionist thought Orlando was still alive in the basement, when I know for certain he's dead.

I went to Lumbridge graveyard to talk to the girl I saved in Blood Pact. A few chat options in, it appears she conspired with or manipulated Xenia into making the quest. Or she actually is Xenia. I couldn't tell.

I'm not sure if this means anything, or if I missed anything.

It seems that way. But even when he was in the Zarosian Empire he was never really loyal to Zaros. And then he killed Guthix when he said he wouldn't, got his own faction, started a contest for gods to kill each other (which is separate from Zaros' goals), then implied that we should sabotage Zaros' return in FOT* and try to kill him.

As for this master, I doubt Sliske is truly loyal to them, and is instead trying to take advantage of whoever this being is. That shifty expression when he says, "I live to serve", and calling us a pawn...I think it's a bit more likely that he's been planning to use our soul in some underhanded ritual against this apparent master.

Tier 5 - Tumeken (desert god) and Brassica Prime (cabbage god)

The god that withheld the advancement of the greatest empire ever to set foot on Gielinor is equal in strength to a cabbage. The desert gods have always gotten the worst deal out of the lore.

When you think about it, Arran is basically Guthix, while Soahc is basically Sliske.

I'd not considered it in that way before. Soahc would be less like Sliske than he outwardly appears, though.

You can post if you want to, or I can. I suppose it's a matter of who can type the fastest. :P

Well all I can say is that I certainly hope so. My money is on it being Xau-Tak.
