I spent like six hours composing musical notes in Dorico, transferred the notation to MIDI in my DAW, and everything sounded TERRIBLE. So I adjusted a few things, experimented with my free VSTs, and still nothing worked. What a great way to start the new year XD
Strange that, despite all that effort--much more effort than my previous songs--it still turned out unworkable. Overall, I think I learned two things:
1. Do not fight against your music or try to force it to sound a certain a way, it can't be anything more than what its notes are
2. You need high quality VSTs to sound good; if you don't have good software or VSTs, you can't make anything great
I may have to wait until I return to work, save up money, then start purchasing higher quality software and VSTs. But oof, they are so expensive >.< the full version of Dorico is like a thousand bucks, and getting a high quality symphony VST is almost two grand.
But oh well, that'll only make me more patient with my musical, stretching out the journey longer.
