Heh, don't worry, being an incompetent soldier is nothing compared to slaughtering an entire fortress full of civilians before turning around and killing the people who gave you the order to do that.
Although I suppose the details of that aren't exactly well-known, since everyone present is dead except for the one who did the killing.
He isn't actually incompetent. He's a pretty damn good archer - he shot an eagle out of the sky in pitch blackness. The proudest moment of his life, which his cousin then took all the credit for, while everyone thought Rilton was the one trying to steal credit. That's kind of where his reputation began to fall and his bitterness began to rise, actually.
But yeah, Rilton isn't a murderer.
An interaction between could be like that scene from Rick and Morty, between Beth and Birdperson. Beth complains about petty nonsense while Birdperson laments the fact that his hands are stained with the blood of innocents, and neither of them are really listening to each other.
Beneath the gold, the Bitter Steel.
Hey hey hey, she's not a murderer. Just a weapon. People could argue that it's the same thing, but when you've been taking someone's orders your whole life you don't question it much until you actually realize what just happened.
Maybe, although I'm not positive how she'd actually talk about it just yet. Although she does regret it, her attitude towards it is...different.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Huh... that sort of reminds me of a character in a choose-your-own-adventure-book series I read a while ago.
He's a bit different, though. He believes he is a weapon in the literal sense - all free will is an illusion, and everyone is controlled by the world's gods. All of his personal feelings and hunches are just the gods nudging him in a certain direction. Which was pretty goddamn meta, considering it was a choose your own adventure book. He's also pretty goddamn ruthless and will kill anyone he perceives as an obstacle, or anyone he is ordered to kill.
That series had really great characters. 10/10 would recommend. There's currently two parts to it. I also took a lot of inspiration from the author's writing style.
