West,
Exactly, but then there's the threshold of context, the parameters, so it's definitely hard to decide where to draw the line. It takes quite a lot of effort to figure these things out, and for all the time we spend learning it, we could just be RPing however we want!

I did experiment in the other website, mentioning a formula that went something like,
"Initiate your attack, then mention your next move."
against NPCs, for example.

Chris is probably going to hate this, but I've actually spent some time looking at some dramatic anime fights, thinking... if this were a pen and paper roleplay, how would it look? How would it be written?

Keep in mind, I'm mainly looking at fights where both parties deal significant damage to the other.

This clip, from the climax of Fate/Zero, is mainly comprised of actions vs reactions, with exposition thrown in between blows. It has a series of power plays and counters, but both characters take lethal injuries. This is probably the end-game of what I think a roleplaying fight should achieve.

Sadly, if this scene were to happen on the forums, I feel we would skip everything between

I guess what I'm saying is, why wear plot armour if you're not going to have fun with it?

At one point there was a guy floating around here called King Ansart. This was probably 8 to 10 years ago.

This guy joined all of my threads. Every time I would give him the benefit of the doubt when he joined, after kicking him out of several threads. He was good at writing but his characters were all insanely overpowered.

Some examples:

1) In one of my prison threads, he had a character who was a blind teenage girl. Said blind teenage girl proceeded to:

Somehow obtain dual Uzi submachineguns inside of a prison.

Kill over twenty guards in the prison, along with several inmates.

Somehow obtain various implements to construct a motorized glider.

Constructed said motorized glider out of ceiling fan motors, canvas and wood, in an 8x12 prison cell.

Somehow moved the motorized glider to the rooftop of the prison.

Proceeded to escape the prison on the motorized glider with three other people.

Crossed thirty miles of ocean water on motorized glider and came to a safe landing on the mainland.

2) In one of my zombie threads, he had a character who was somewhat stylized after an anime character, but I didn't really care as long as he played fair. This character proceeded to:

Ride around on a crotch-rocket in streets full of zombies.

Wield dual Uzis and dual katanas, using them while on the motorcycle to kill zombies.

Bust through the cinderblock wall of a police station our characters were sheltering in on said motorcycle, like the Kool-Aid Man.

Uninjured by said impact, since there was a big fucking gigantic hole in the wall from his Kool-Aid Man esque entrance, proceeded to fight off an encroaching horde of creatures.

3) Had a character in my Cold Streets thread which survived: a car crash, getting shot twice in the head, being shot many times in the torso with an assault rifle, had both kneecaps broken by a tire iron, was burned and thrown off a bridge into water. Then proceeded to swim back to shore and continue fighting.

I'm familiar with powerplaying.

West,
That’s an interesting question, it’s better than nothing, and aids in this discussion.

OK, let’s check out this first link. Why didn’t he shoot him in the leg or elbow? If the claws-guy has that much reflexes and precision, couldn’t he have thrown one of the blades at the gunman? If someone kicks at you, just shoot him again. SMG fires into the obviously bulletproof blades, instead of shooting into the legs. Alternatively, firing at point-blank range would work, too. Hey, is that a rosary? Didn’t expect to see that in an anime. Falcon Punch! Jesus, how many bullets does that SMG have? What kind of pistol is that, it’s like a breech-loader. Or you destroy the spinal cord, that would deactivate the brain and paralyze the guy. All these spinning camera angles hurts my eyes.

Hm, if the context was a mass utilization of supernatural powers, yes, I think an RP should be something like this. It’s a bit odd that they can slow down time (or something?), but not slow down someone’s heart, for example, that’d be a much better option.

Well, creating a climatic, brutal duel or fight takes passion, effort and energy, and lots of it. I somewhat did this a few times in As Demons Weeping, regarding Chaos.

Ha! Yeah, why not have fun with plot armor? Plot armor is important, too, it just has to be used correctly, or correlate to the progress of a character.

Gun,
Oh my, sounds like King Ansart is RPing as gods.

I don't have much to say, but sounds like he was just a problem, probably trolling. It just seems like King Ansart needed to be writing a novel, not RPing!

That cafeteria table is more impressive than King Ansart.

Oh, and I finished reading three different RP PvP guides, didn't learn much, but I still read them. Overall, they seem to advocate common sense and decency.

They were fun threads. Made for an interesting dynamic and usually the threads were more focused on prison escape and gang warfare. Some of them reached thread number #13 or more. I'd like to make another but I doubt it would go far.

The pistol is modified for .308 Winchester rounds, I think – as for the Calico, it always seems to have as many bullets as the plot demands. But that's kind of a given with automatic pistols in fiction, I suppose (Clive Cussler books tend to fall victim to this).

In the realistic setting, Kiritsugu would just pump Kerei full of lead and call it a day. Now THAT would be a disappointing ending if I ever saw one, and would *probably* make said roleplayers very salty.

I don't see how anything I have said couldn't be done in the anime, though. In my opinion, it would have made the fight much more dynamic, aggressive, and violent.

West,
Ah, so those were the firearms, I had no idea.

Anyways, I just started my own PvP system, just to experiment with it. It will deal with three categories: Endurance (Action Points, penalties for strain and exhaustion, movement, etc.), Equipment (armor, weapons, explosives, tools, etc.), and Skills (abilities, magic, traits, etc.), these categories affecting various aspects
