Taika flinched. She sighed. ~Even my balance begins to fail me... What is it about these strange travelers that causes me to be so clumsy? I might as well just let them find me now...* Taika thought, standing up straight. ~Well, I do have an idea who they are, and an idea what they stand for... So this may not be the worst idea...~

Matt then paused and listened. "I didn't hear anything Rhen." He said. Just to be safe, he quickly scanned the wasteland again. "Over there!" Matt shouted, pointing at Taika. "There's a person over there."

"It does not bother me that you ask about my people Matt. I have gotten over my exile. It does no harm that I talk about my home now. If you would have asked me these questions a few years after my exile then it would be a different story. I still miss my home yes but not as much as I have. Every time my mind drifts to my home I try and look at the positive side of my exile. One such positive thing is that I would not have ran into you, Forlirn, and the others. Also I would not have the knowledge I have now. If I were to still live in Baladora, and I say this conservatively, I would be of even higher intelligence than even the Elder." said Rhen.
"I knew I heard something. Should we attempt to make contact?" asked Rhen looking between Matt and Forlirn.

"You are a strong man then Rhen. Many would never recover from the shame and the natural agony you would feel after being exiled. I have to respect your strength and determination. You're around 800 years old right? How long has it been since you were exiled?" Matt asked.
Matt looked at the person for a moment without replying. "Yes, lets talk. Maybe she will know something that could help us. At the very least, it would be good to know what he or she is doing here. You ought to do the talking Rhen. The rest of us will be ready for a fight if he or she wants one." Matt said.

"Lets see........I spent 400 years travelling between Nueva and Elune gathering information on both mechanics and magic for my arm and wings. Another 200 years working on my arm and wings.........So it has been about 600 years since my exile. And to tell the truth Matt.......not all wounds from my exile are healed. There is still one thing that grieves me. That is the look on the Elder's face when he had to exile me. That is the only thing I think that I will never get over and that time will never heal. But I thank you for your compliment." said Rhen as he nodded to Matt.
"You are only saying to let me do the talking because in my current condition I cannot fight. Either than or it is because of my intellect and wisdom." said Rhen. the last comment more of a small joke.

"Why didn't your elder just say that he will not exile you?" Matt asked. "It is clear that he cared about you and didn't want to exile you. Being your leader, couldn't he have just said that he didn't want to exile you. Maybe grant you an official pardon or something?"
"Well there is that Rhen. But besides that, you have the fact that Caelidorus and I are paranoid beyond belief, seeing enemies where there are none. Then you have Frilarth who is insane, Frilarn who can't talk. and Forlirn who is a senile old man. You are basically the only contender." Matt said, clearly joking.

"He had no choice. He had already given me a second chance when I first began to delve into the void. He warned me to stay away from the void when I first began to work with it. In my people's society, even scratching the surface of the forbidden is punishable by exile for it defies the will of the Elder and the council. When I lost my arm and wings..........I became a disgrace to my people. Our wings are treasured among my people. Since I lost mine........in their eyes I was no longer one of them and I also delved into the void after being warned and fell over the edge. On top of that........If the Elder made the exception for me.........who is to say what horrors would be placed upon my since I was wingless. For all I know things might have been worse for me among my own people than being exiled." said Rhen with a sigh.
"I can see your point. But to be honest..........I hate feeling like this, helpless to do anything but be a negotiator. But there is one thing that troubles me Matt........you trust the 'senile old man' to fight but don't trust him to talk with a stranger? How is that? And another thing......you want me to talk with someone with my arm looking like I tore it off some monster and sewed it onto my shoulder? Not the best way to not get attacked." said Rhen as he began making his way towards the person they had spotted.

"You certainly haven't had it easy Rhen. I can't say that I blame you for attempting to investigate the void however. Sometimes you have to take great risks in order to accomplish something. It didn't work out that time, but that does not mean you should stop your work. The void may have brought nothing but misery thus far, but I believe it may eventually bring you some great reward if you stick to it. Maybe you will become famous from your discoveries or you will gain access to a power beyond your wildest dreams. Either way, do not ever give up." Matt said.
"I was joking about Forlirn. I don't look at him as a senile old man. Forlirn just seems a bit... distracted right now, so I think you would be the best diplomat. I also still believe that you are overplaying how people will view your arm. I certainly didn't care about that when I first saw you, and I do not believe this person will as well. In truth, I think you are just the best diplomat here. That's not a weakness like you make it out to be. A wise man once said that the pen was mightier then the sword after all." Matt replied.

"That is what I hope will come of my work. I have already proven some of my theories that none have ever dared to delve into. I have proven that the energy of the void can be molded into a form of the manipulator's choosing. But it takes a strong will and a focused mind. As for power.............That part I am still curious about. If what is happening to my body is what I think it is........then I may have tapped into the greatest source of power to ever grace Elune." thought Rhen with a dark smile with his last statement.
"I suppose you are right there as well. Perhaps I should start to think better of myself and my condition. But after the experiences that I have had and the ones that I fear I will have with my remaining arm in the condition it is in............I don't think I can get past. But I shall make the effort." said Rhen.
"You there. We mean you no harm. My name is Rhen. Come forward and introduce yourself." Rhen called to the person that the group had spotted.

"Just be careful if you do discover a major source of power Rhen. Stronger people then you have allowed for themselves to be corrupted by power once they manage to obtain it. If you let your power get to your head, then you are capable of using it in a bad way. The last thing I want to hear is that you unlocked the deepest secrets of the void and used them to forge an empire or something." Matt said.
"Good for you Rhen. There's no guarantee that you will ever be able to get past the loss of your arm and your wings, but you should at least try. All you are doing is beating yourself up right now. I can say for certain that sort of thing is not healthy." Matt replied.
