Hunting the AI



The train ride from New Jersey to Nevada was a long one. However, the underground railway systems had no traffic and raced as crazy high speeds. To kill time, the various passengers would chat about what just happened, many just glad to be alive. There was some tension between the escapees and workers, but the workers just resorted to the excuse that they were forced to do their job.

After several hours, the train went from eastern to western USA. Morinth’s omni-tool activated.

“We’ve reached Las Vegas, finally. We’re directly under the city. Just eighty-three miles north-northwest and we’ll be under Area 51. This is our best chance of taking Matriarch Zerasar by surprise, especially since it’s so early in the morning. Surprise her, and her AI will also haywire. Of course, we may have to shoot our way through a few hundred of her... American cronies.” Morinth explained.

As the train ride neared its final destination, the radio of X7A and Ryder tweaked on.

“Michael here. We have only been able to uncover very little of this AI or Matriarch Zerasar. This AI indeed was created on one of Saturn’s moons, and seems to be a sentient, hyper optimized, data access network of some sort, but everything else is heavily encrypted and classified. Nothing else relevant could be obtained from the mainframe. As for Matriarch Zerasar, there is a record she arrived on Earth seven years ago at Las Vegas, but nothing else of her can be found. I speculate the Asari government are involved, but contacting them will take quite a while. I will try to contact the Asari ambassadors on Earth when I can.” Michael explained.

“In the meantime, I have already contacted the United States Air Force, and granted X7A, Ryder and Morinth total clearance throughout Homey Airport, Edwards Air Force Base, and Nellis Air Force Base. This way, there is no chance we can be tricked. The civilian passengers aboard will be taken care of by governmental staff waiting for them. If you feel it is necessary, use this as a slight distraction while you seek out your objectives, or wait for the air base’s personnel to greet you. I have made sure you will be allowed to keep your weapons.” Michael continued.

“The CIA and the United States Air Forces are now co-operating in our investigation. However, in case something fishy is going on... you have the right to eliminate any opposition in your way, even if they are our own guys. The elimination of Matriarch Zerasar and this global AI are your top priority. Nothing else matters. Michael out.”

The train soon arrived at the bowels of Area 51, screeching to a rather steamy halt. The infrastructure is vast and complex, but perfectly lit and tidy. The train axles were red hot and steaming, and the entire thing shook as if it were about to fall apart. Regardless, the cabins were opened up by various Systems Alliance soldiers.

Equipped with the best armour and firearms available, and prototype kinetic barriers, they are formidable soldiery.

“All passengers, calmly allow us to escort you out the train. Put your weapons down, and do not leave the area.” a soldier’s voice spoke in the intercom.

The soldiers were not threatening, and with them were various governmental agents. The facility employees, escapees, London and her friends, Noah, and the Quarians left the train, escorted by a few soldiers. Passengers with weapons were ordered to put them down and scanned, several soldiers standing close to the Quarians. Gatatog Karrok, unsurprisingly, was rather uncooperative, but after some grumbling, obeyed authority.

“Too bad you didn’t happen to meet me elsewhere. Me and my clan would love to have a little talk with Systems Alliance.” Karrok grumbled.

Some soldiers reached the train cockpit (or whatever the hell the main operating wagon is called), and escorted X7A, Ryder, Morinth and Annie out. Annie was led to where the civilians were grouped at, the Quarians being led elsewhere...



Annie, London, Noah

All the civilians, except the Quarians, were standing together as a group. Various soldiers stood by, but did nothing, the agents continuing scanning with their omni-tools.

Amidst the scanning, Annie may notice London and her friends, possibly fellow schoolmates or friends!



X7A, Ryder

Morinth had that dreamy smile on her face again. She approaches Ryder and X7A.

“We don’t need to wait for the welcoming party. I know where we have to go. We should get going.” Morinth says, but what would the operatives choose to do? Many different options could be chosen at this point...

Annie stretched her body as she got off the train by escort by the soldiers. As she was led away from Ryder,X7A and Morinth. She looked back at Ryder with confused and afraid to leave him. She hoped the goverment dosent know that she was the one who burned her school. She walked towards the civilians area that's when she saw London and her friends. She recognize them from school. She was too nervous to talk to them because she's trying to keep herself on the down low from the goverment. -Dances-

“ So, this is a ‘human zoo’? ” London exclaimed with wonder as she and the other students disembarked the train.

“ I don’t think that’s… ” Lucy began, her head firmly nestled in a face palm. Utterly lost for words, she was quickly interrupted by Lucas.

“ I’m just glad the military is here. I just want to go home and forget this ever happened… ” Perhaps the other’s nodded in agreement, but London’s attentions were focused elsewhere. Across the station, a girl wearing their uniform stood near an Asari, an imposing man and a woman.

“ Hey, isn’t that Annie? ” Lucy said, following London’s gaze.

“ The girl from class 2B? Nah, can’t be. ” Lucas replied.

“ Only one way to know for sure! London will ask if she wants to visit the human zoo with us! ” London chirped, diving headlong into the crowd before anyone could stop her.

“ ANNIE! ” London cried from across the room, crying apologies as she weaved in and out of the crowd. “ ANNIE, IS THAT YOU? ”

As usual, Micheal barked out their orders. He needn’t have bothered; Ryder knew the deal, and so did the Brass. But he was by no means an inconsiderate man; the sexbot, of course, would need its orders to keep it on task. Why the brass had such fetishes were beyond him, but that’s just how things stood.

“ Heh. Anything to get out of this cesspool. I can smell the damned suit rats from here. ” Ryder quipped as he exited the train, knowing full well he was in earshot of the trigger happy Quarrians.

Annie heard her name being called by one the people she used goes to school with. She walked towards them as she was being escorted by a few soldiers and said in a scared,tried,weak voice,"yes, that's me.." She hoped the soldiers don't realize that she was the one who burned her school and not arrest her for it. she had many questions for them but, she kept them quiet because she want to keep them safe. -Dances-

Next Phase: Begin Operations

Clearance to do whatever was necessary, including engagement and elimination of allied forces. Standard fare for X7A’s missions, but it was good to have full confirmation anyways. It was best to have a directive, as the decisions made by the operatives in the field may be uninformed in some ways. With an overhead directive, the decisions made could reflect it while still factoring in field data that Command had not had prior access to.

X7A waited for the escorting soldiers only for the reason that their guide was doing so. Despite the fact that Morinth was clearly not trustworthy, she was currently part of the operation, and that meant there was no point in going forward without her. Operative Ryder was the same, but his actions were less rational and therefore were not to be depended upon fully. He had the missions directive as well, and therefore she had no need to be there to remind him of it.

“
Then go. I am following.
” X7A told Morinth. Although her nature made it impossible to be eager to go, she did think that this mission should begin as soon as possible. Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

Annie and London

Annie was scared to leave Ryder? Masochists respect abusers, after all. On the bright side, she saw London, who shouts Annie’s name while bursting into the crowd, and sure enough, Annie from classroom 2B is present. But, did Annie wish to go to the human zoo?

“Hah hah! Aww, that was so cute!” one of the soldiers remarked at London’s behaviour.

What a coincidence that the same students from Morristown ended up here.

Soon, another soldier appeared, looking like:

The other soldiers saluted this one.

“Take the civilians to the cafeteria for now. Change of plans, we’re gonna initiate a lockdown of the lower levels.” the soldier stated to a few of his men, then put a hand on the side of his helmet. “All personnel, leave lower levels immediately. I am sending you messages to your omni-tools as well. Anyone left behind, stays behind, permanently.” he continued, then gestured to his men.

“This way, kitties.” a female soldier instructed the citizens, and escorted them elsewhere.

The walk was rather long, but eventually, the workers, escapees, children, and Noah ended up in a cafeteria further up Area 51. It was quite a nice place, perfectly clean and having perfectly arranged tables and seats.

“Everyone gets free snacks, drinks, medicine and coffee from the vending machines. Make yourselves at home, it will be some time before we can transport you all out of the airbase and take you to the nearest hospital, then home.” the female soldier said, and she stood by the entrance of the cafeteria.

For now, whatever food or drink anyone wanted, they could get it, socialize, and have some fun for a change!

The disarmed trigger-happy Quarians could not really do much, as they were being escorted, but Maal’Lok did turn his head. The Quarians were led off somewhere.

X7A and Ryder had a job to do, and with total clearance and licence to kill, the objective could not falter. X7A agreed to Morinth, and off they went, Ryder perhaps also going with them. They slipped away, soldiers noticing, but they did nothing.

* * *

Morinth went through various hallways, elevators, and passages, going deeper and deeper into Area 51. They passed groups of soldiers and personnel here and there, but as always, nothing happened. Clearly, the entire facility was aware of orders, and did not interfere with them.

“Damn, this place is big... just a little more.” Morinth said to herself.

As they walked, Michael’s radio tuned back on.

“Michael, again. As of thus far, information about Matriarch Zerasar and this global AI remain rather ambiguous. In fact, their existence is denied by Systems Alliance, but I have a feeling there’s more to it than that. As a heads-up, our connection is gradually breaking, this global AI is attempting another takeover of our systems.” Michael said, his voice becoming more static and disrupted, “I have a feeling this AI has just realized you are paying her a visit. Whatever Morinth wants you to do, you better get it done as fast as you can, I don’t like this. Michael out.”

“Does he always pop by to talk about nothing?” Morinth asked.

There were fewer and fewer soldiers present the further Morinth went. The soldiers paid them no mind, and, curiously enough, were always walking in the opposite direction, definitely opposite of deeper into Area 51.

Later on, the characters came upon a rather cold section of Area 51. Curiously enough, there were no soldiers here whatsoever, giving the area an abandoned appearance. Up ahead, they saw:

The water leaks were a dead giveaway that something was a bit off here.

“There she is, she’s inside that ball. Matriarch Zerasar has always been good at being inconspicuous, hunh? But she can’t hide from me.” Morinth said, smiling and then jogging to the spherical device in the centre of the next room. She placed her hands on the sphere, and her smile turned into a half-smirk. She then let her arms drop, and looked at her omni-tool.

“Just gotta crack this thing open, somehow... Hmm... Ah, yeah, this’ll work.” Morinth said, then spread her arms, body glowing with Biotics. “Hmmph!” she exclaimed, her Biotics kicking in and trying to wrench the sphere open. The sphere creaked, but remained closed. If able, Ryder and X7A could lend a hand, however they could...
