Most would think that the blast doors being left open was pure luck, but to X7A the action seemed far too deliberate. The asari had seen her, knew she was there, and yet she had left the doorway to the facility open. It could be deduced that she had heard the execution of those up on the construction site as well, and that combined with the paranoia that a project like this should distill in its participants meant that this door should not have been left open by anyone that was even partially competent. If it was open, it was done so to provide an entrance for someone else, and there was only one person here that it could possibly be applied to.

That left a very big question, though: why? It was clear to anyone that had knowledge of the project staff that she was not one of them, and luck was never something to be trusted. The only possible explanation was that this was a clear trap. Why she was bothering to set it was another question, and one that there was no answer to yet, but at the time there wasn’t any choice except to move forward, no matter how much she knew it was a terrible tactical decision.

The fact that the asari’s facial structure matched up perfectly with that of her target just raised more warning flags. There were a few possible options for this, but most of them X7A could discount due to them being too implausible. Only two remained. The first was that the Night Wind Demon had been created in a similar manner to her, that is to say as a subject for whatever project, using genetic designs from whatever seemed usable, and one of them had been the asari, leading to a similar facial structure. However, since the chance of the structure being so exact was almost zero, the other option was that the asari was her target, and the human identity was nothing more than a disguise.

Of the two, the second seemed the most likely, but with not enough evidence to tell it was too early to say for sure. Yet, if it was, it made everything happening now even more dangerous.

The jamming devices were troublesome, but hardly unexpected. Scanners were useful, and her own were going to remain active until they interfered with her capability to perform, but they were not a necessity. X7A’s abilities were only enhanced by such devices; they did not rely on them to function.

A lack of security systems was the only thing out of place, unless they were there and simply could not be detected. It was doubtful this was the case, however; even the most advanced systems left some kind of trace behind that she could pick up. There was nothing here that she could find, however, and since there seemed to be very little around on the current floors she deduced that these floors were meant to do little. The first thing she could detect, a manufacturing facility - which also indicated that this structure was more than simply the site of a project - was several floors down, and also not what she was looking for.

When it came to the soldiers, though, X7A did not make a move at first. There was no need to, either, since the same asari stepped in. If X7A hadn’t been sure that she had been let into this facility on purpose before, she was positive now. For some reason that she could still not deduce, this asari wanted her in here, and had now gone beyond indirect efforts to do so.

The question of “why” was still not answered, but it seemed like it was going to remain that way for the time being. There was no further discussion, no attempts to make any contact. The asari did nothing, in fact, simply walking to the elevator to begin a descent. It left a few options, all of them with risks. The soldiers might be expecting X7A to enter the elevator with her, and would become even more suspicious if she did not. At the same time, if this asari knew who or what she was, and had brought her here for a reason relating to that, entering an enclosed space with her would be the worst idea possible.

In the end, X7A went with the option that, for now, posed the smallest risk. Even if the soldiers doubled back and went after her, she could handle them. The asari was simply too much of an unknown and too dangerous to move into close contact with as of now, and so X7A let the elevator doors close before continuing down via the stairs. Time wasn’t yet an issue, and so taking the less dangerous option did not matter even if it took more time.

Annie

She went to bed.

Whenever she chose to get out of bed, she would hear something tapping on the window overlooking the robotics facility.

X7A

Indeed, there was quite a lot amiss, with more questions than answers, but X7A was very close to solving this most strange case. Whatever identity the Asari and this Night Wind Demon truly had, would be solved in this mission. Risks had to be taken, and things seemed pretty easy so far, so much so, that a trap or revelation seemed to be the only conclusions. Even the unusual, blatant lack of security, and then the Asari dismissing the soldiers, just added to why this was so. Nevertheless, she let the elevator close and descend, and took to the stairs.

The soldiers did not double back, at least not yet, and would probably remain in the upper levels for a while. It also meant that, if X7A chose to exit conventionally after her objective, they would probably be in the way.

So, down X7A went. These stairs led to the next ten floors, so another fleet of stairs leading to the last floors would be somewhere else. Whatever was jamming her scanners, and the manufacturing facility, were not things she cared about for now.

As she descended, she eventually reached a section leading to a large hangar-like area, full of stored parts, ranging from mechanical to robotic, computer to tools. Inside were several workers, moving crates and things.

“...damn, what was inside those boxes? Freakin’ slabs of lead?” a worker complained as he did his work.

“I told you to use a dolly. The things are just, like, two feet tall and wide, but are way heavier than they look.” another worker remarked.

“What the hell are they, anyways? This Maal’Lok guy must be pretty hellbent on smuggling these parts if he’s working with the Mafia, despite the fact he passed clearance going to Earth anyways. Heh, dumbass Quarian doesn’t even know what the FBI is, he's gonna be in jail so fast...” the previous said while chuckling.

“Not to mention that Quarians usually consider themselves very loyal, but they’re still suit-rats.” another worker commented.

X7A could have stayed to eavesdrop, but she probably continued descending the stairs. She noticed large ventilation shafts here and there, and being so petite, could probably enter them via warp or removing the lid somehow, though it was optional.

“X7A, Michael- KRRRK -finished scanning the- KRRRK -Helix schematics. Uploading them to your- SSHHV " Michael's voice came, interrupted by bursts of static and distortion, "-Nav Points will lead you to the facility’s mainframe, I also gave you access to our best viruses and bugs if you need- KRRRK KRRRK SSSHHHHHV KRRRK -...that’s what the guy’s key card does, as he seemed to be involved in the jamming device, so you have- SSSHHHV -should grant you access throughout the lower levels. KRRRRK -security is gonna skyrocket in the lower floors." Michael said, then paused.

"You may be able to sabotage or upload a virus to the- KRRRK SSHHV -device or robotics facility to create a diversion. It'd happen faster if you find a terminal. I also have picked up strange, unknown readings, a hyper-complex network increasing in bandwidth. Totally unknown origin. There is something very odd going on in there- SSSHHHV KRRRK -be careful. Michael out.” Michael radioed quietly, the jamming device here clearly doing its job.

X7A could investigate the android manufacturing plant, the workers, or the jamming device. It was likely she would encounter personnel who would be suspicious of her sooner or later. There would also be occasional groups of workers transporting crates with dollies along the hallways, but they would not really care about X7A. They knew they were working for a rather dark company, and so seeing quasi-cybernetic-featured people like X7A would not be too much of a surprise, but probably induced some fear. Indeed, when you see something kinda creepy while working for a company involved with the Mafia, you better keep shut.

Alternatively, X7A could continue going further into the facility, towards the mainframe at the very bottom floor, but that would require passing through hallways to find the last fleet of stairs, and most certainly increased security would be in the way. It would be likely that the guards would become suspicious of her immediately.

Since she had schematics of this secretive facility, she would be able to deduce most of the facility’s layout, and perform whatever plan she had next, unless something got in her way. However, since the facility was clearly old-fashioned, it probably had features or paths the uploaded schematics would not be able to reveal.

Whatever path she chose, the idea of sneaking around would probably start nearing the end of its effectiveness within twenty minutes or so, seeing as scanners picked up increased movement down below, suggesting greater activity was approaching.

Annie woke up from her wonderful nap. She felt so much better that her brain was much clearer. She was surprised that she slept. She heard something tapping on the window overlooking the robotics facility so, she got out of bed to find out what it was. She was terrify what it could be but, was very curious what was tapping the window was. So she went to the window to see what it was. She also had a plan to escape from this cell. -Dances-

Weapons smuggling, illegal manufacturing...everything here seemed to confirm what had been said up on the construction site. Even if this wasn’t a move that was planned for any time in the near future, it was clear enough that, at the very least, it was being heavily prepared for. X7A had seen production facilities on a much greater scale than this, but those had been legal. For a hidden storehouse and mechanical facility, this was large, and it seemed to be well-equipped as well.

They were even going far enough to commission deliveries from an alien race: quarian, a suit-confined race currently engaged in a war against a created race of synthetic beings. Classified as less dangerous than humans due to the lack of involvement in most terran affairs, although it has been advised to keep such aliens away from anything valuable. Mechanical skill is as high, if not higher than, humans, and so quarian engineers are prized due to the lack of supply.

Overall, not something she needed to be concerned with, although she did send the name out just so that it was known who was delivering to the facility.

At this point, the jamming signal was beginning to amplify to the point where communication with the outside was difficult. Fortunately, it was not so bad that she couldn’t receive the information that was not spoken. Schematics lit up her cybernetic visual array, and she quickly scanned them as the radio spun half-static sentences in her ears. Most of it was clear enough, and the rest would just need to be worked out as it became relevant.

The only unfortunate part about this whole thing was that, when it came to the electronic and computational aspects of operations, she was completely reliant on others to provide her with the operational programs such as viruses. She had been trained as a soldier, and it had been determined that she did not need the computational knowledge to succeed. Provided everything was given to her - which, in this case, it was - it was simple enough for her to upload what needed to be uploaded and work it out from there. She was intelligent, after all, but simply had not been given enough tutelage in such matters to be effective without some form of assistance.

There were a few things that she immediately ruled out as investigation parts. The first was the vents, as ventilation systems were far too enclosed and dangerous. Only in an emergency would she even consider accessing them. The second was the workers. To investigate living humans, although quite possible given the fact that she could pose as a member of this project with reasonable certainty, would be the easiest way to arouse suspicion.

The third, while less of a denial and more of a delay, was continuing to the lower areas. If the readings that she had were accurate, then it would be difficult to maintain an effective cover in approximately twenty minutes. So, since continuing downwards would render her as a target to the security systems and forces, the combination of unavoidable an end to her successful undetection would be most effective if paired with the other option that would give her the same result.

It was to the android manufacturing plant that she went first, but her time there would be brief. All she wanted to do was see what the area looked like as well as identify any means of tactical advantage that she could utilize at a later time. Positions of note would be anywhere that seemed to be a control node as well as areas with potentially hazardous materials. The general number of active machines was useful to note as well, as would be the number of organic personnel present.

With that little errand done, to the jamming signal she went, or at least to where it seemed the setup would be. Outward communications would be good to have, but if it was possible that she could utilize what she had to hamper the facility’s effectiveness in some other way as well, she would gladly take that opportunity.
