level requirements for items going up might not be no big deal for you just like some of these changes might be no big deal for me but try to keep perspective of all the pkers who made account with those tier items in mind. im a 2k total 1 def pure who will now have to up my combat even further if i want acess to the gear ive ALREADY been using for YEARS to keep pvming and bossing like I do now. and inb4 the "you choose to limit yourself" yes i did i like the challenge of bossing on an account without def and i grew bored of my main and if i wanted more combat lvls for pking (which id have to get the weapons i have now) i might as well just pk on my zerk or med. sorry for the rant but my point is even changing the lvls of these will disrupt the pvp community even more if irons want an instanced wilderness jamflex will probably give it to them...

First of all, Your survay team is dead wrong.
You need your focus on buff early and mid game and items that is not beieng used.

Nerfing endgame gear will result in great player base loss I guarantee that!
You will proably entertain high tier players for a week or 2 and they buy bonds from GE to pay for membership. The new and mid tier players pays for membership from credit card like myself because I support the game. Who do you prefer to kee


I think the faceguard SHOULD be nerfed because it lacks negative ranged/mage bonuses. It’s actually more OP in these endgame situations than you think, because it can free up 2 inventory spaces while providing great defensive bonuses.

The bulwark IS problematic, it just hasn’t been focused on because we don’t have high-scale pvp situations (until soul wars).

Blowpipe-yeah, it comes from a high level boss, but it doesn’t “open” up COX or GWD. I’ve done these bosses very recently without the toxic blowpipe and I still kill these monsters, it just takes forever. And it’s disheartening to see that getting the blowpipe speeds up kills like crazy when it shouldn’t be (which also means less supplies and other things used...ultimately not fair).

And no, not all high end players use bonds to pay for their membership. You might be thinking of just stakers (well even then...probably not).

Considering this game is super old, I’m sure most of its players are older, have jobs, and can pay the membership like you and me.

I'm glad you are going about rebalancing problem gear.

The warhammer reblancing, sounds like you may have overlooked 1 attack high str pures. The dragon warhammer is a vast improvement over the tzhaar-ket-om (obby maul). It is +10 attack bonus, and 1 attack speed faster. It also doesn't require an obsidian necklace.

I like the fact you are thinking outside the box for this, but you do need to consider, "How will players potentially abuse these changes?" when looking at changes such as these.

Also, melee weapons aren't the only items missing diversity, and you actually missed a few categories for melee weapons. Furthermore, I'd like to point out that there is a few different ways weapons can be seen as useful: overall DPS, burst damage (max hit), special attack DPS, special attack burst damage (max hit), special attack utility (dragon battle axe, harpoon, axe, pickaxe, spear as examples).

I'll point out how the below fall into these categories currently.

Daggers
- Special Attack DPS
Canes
- Bad - essentially maces, just highlighting so not overlooked
Maces
- Bad
Hastas
- stab DPS
Short-Swords
- stab DPS
Long-Swords
- Bad
Scimitars
- slash DPS
Warhammers
- Bad
Battleaxes
- Bad
Claws
- Special Attack DPS
Spears
- Special Attack Utility
Halberds
- Utility of attacking 1 extra square away
2h Swords
- Burst damage

So with all that being said, there is room for crush DPS weapons, Burst damage weapons of various styles, etc. There's not really a need to completely change how weapons are wielded as suggested with warhammers, when there's already a lot of gaps to fill. I'm not completely against the warhammer change, but do compare it to its existing maul counterpart.

Mage armour
is the next thing that needs rebalancing in my opinion. How many times have you seen a melee user spec out a mage, when the mage should be better according to the combat triangle.

Mage robes completely lack melee defensive bonuses for almost all variations. There's a few robes with melee defensive capabilities, but not nearly as many as there should be (there could be tank mage robe versions created).

Also, mage robes have huge gaps in tiering. That needs to be addressed.

Longbows
and
composite bows
are completely outclassed by shortbows. Add some ranged strength bonus to them so they have a higher max hit, and they will become useful for burst damage uses.

Magic Weapons
have no offensive special attacks (except the orbed staffs, which don't even need spells to use the special!)

Maybe make some specials for battlestaffs and mystic staffs that have some benefits on the next spell with the same affinity (normal spellbook, example fire wave). Some potential examples below (there could be two different versions depending on battle or mystic).

Water
- more accuracy (maybe it never splashes)
Earth
- slowing effect - toggles target's run off
Fire
- minor DoT effect if hit connects (hits 1 for next 3 game tics or something)
Air
- casts a game tic faster

These specials should mainly be for the normal spellbook in my opinion, as the ancient spellbook already sees plenty of PvP usage, and is mainly used for hybriding in PvP as well.

My 2 cents is that nerfing as a solution to imbalance is almost always a bad idea.

The main reason we play a game is for fun. Making the game less fun to "fix" it is just counterintuitive. Nerfing is just a quick workaround that leaves the players feeling frustrated. If gear is too strong you should buff other gear, tweak enemies, or add harder challenges.

I can't tell you how many times I've had games ruined by devs taking this nerf approach. They make everything equally slow and unexciting to the point you just don't have as much fun as you did before. That's a crap feeling.


Furthermore, the drastic changes to d hide and bp are coming way too late. Thousands of account have already benefitted from this gear, and new accounts like the one I'm posting from will have a harder time reaching end game.

I'm not saying nerfs should never happen, but they should either come quickly after an item is added or be slight tweaks accompanied by buffing other items/adding new competitive items. You should never nerf something into near obsolescence after it has already been a staple of the game for years.

Please if you intend to move forward with this BETA TEST BETA TEST BETA TEST and don't lock it behind amazon prime.

For an ironman obtaining a blowpipe is no easy task, you have to stay at zulrah (lvl 725) for weeks. Zulrah is one of the hardest bosses to learn in the game, its NOT easy to get a blowpipe. The reason it is only 3m is because this boss is heavily botted (see bots there every day almost).

It doesnt deserve a nerf, if the dragon crossbow is better than BP for Vorkath then rune crossbow is probably too since theyre almost the same stats (+105 range bonus compared to 100 for a 1 handed weapon). Now i understand Blowpipe might still be best for low defence monsters but i feel this nerf is way to strong. -30 range accuracy makes it really bad imo.

We are many ironman who works/worked so hard to obtain it to unlock later game PVM. The gap between blowpipe and tbow is going to be enormous.

I'm an obby mauler in p2p and i went mad from all the HP manipulation and skill lamping in effect creating some pretty "niche" accounts to say the least and i was having so much fun and all that (im pretty noob too btw admittedly) and i decided at the pinnacle of my madness to get 60def on my obby mauler when i was at 1att 87str 1def for fun and didnt realize what i did until afterwards long story short im free to play now and im already thinking about what im gonna do since im an obby mauler at heart always (ive never failed my 1att) im thinking of doing 1att 40str 1def 1pray and do ham joint/event rpg to rune warhammer K0 and also too i made an account thats currently (keep in mind im all f2p and i love f2p) 20att 77str 1def 1pray and i call him my "20att Mithril Pure" so using a mithril mace thats 4 speed instead of 5 will be so much fun and i have a 20att 77str 20def Mithril tank so i like to keep the lower armor and weapons and just train str so im like somewhat low combat still sorry i sound like a complete noob but these new rebalances affect me in a good way since im having fun in the low level f2p aspect of it cause i see everyone thats 40att 60+str 1def or like 50/60/1 or 40/75/40 and im like *yawn* look at all these cool weapons like maces and warhammers and why isnt there a strength based weapon in f2p? i wish there was obby mauling in f2p and now with this i think my dream will come true 21cb running around with 1att 40str 1def 1pray F2p obby mauling will be real... this is Mr Barcode by the way i love old school runescape so much and i couldnt be more grateful for the developers and jagex and i never talk or post but i just had to say something when i saw this... i think the fact that people in f2p pvp lumby will be wearing different f2p gear setups makes me happy just to see the variety like it was sated in the blog originally. this is cool im excited. thank you jagex for old school runescape and thank you mods and everyone :-) - Mr Barcode
