this skill sounds like a mess i like the idea but its a mess....

its basicly just TREASURE HUNTING!!!! maybe that should be the skill its self not sailing.
ship building is just a repeat of construction. No one should get sailing xp from contucting a boat and never exploring the seas.

treasure hunting would be more fit for the skill. It involves competiton from other treasure hunters so thats where PVP seas come into play.

diving for the rewards would reqire all sorts of other skills like theiving to open up locked caskets. agility to make it through crashed and sunken ships. PVM to fight off monters protecting thier teritory

maping and exploring would use the tools like clue scrolls cordanates work.

rewards could be messages in a bottle. should be tradable like a clue scroll that have cordanates to hidden treasure. and the bottles could have diffrent tier lvs depending on your treasure hunting skill

I feel like it could turn out like mobilizing armies... huge for like 1 month or so then nobody played it again... ever.... except this is a skill

I do like it though, but it needs a quest in order to start it off, or else it wouldn't feel right. Maybe you have to have dragon slayer as a requirement, and the quest starts with the dude who stole it from you and is now selling the Lady Lumbridge at Port Sarim?

I do not like this as a skill. It does not add up so far. What is the basic idea behind it? Shipbuilding and it's xp sounds like it best belongs in existing skills (construction, crafting, smithing, etc.) The rest of this skill sounds like dungeoneering with islands and seas and caverns instead of Daemonheim floors.

It also sounds expensive. Can ironpeople do it? Can average players do it without buying lots of bonds or gp or whatever?

As a skill, artisan was much better. At least it was structured around a basic idea.
The point of the journey is not to arrive.

what about having a crew aboard the ship and being able to arm them with weapons and armor to create an item sink. the crew would die but respawn with these items. and the items wouldnt be able to be taken back

The thing is alot of people dont know how this skill will affect the game, dont just look whats close to you but you need to look far ahead, because even if this skill passes with 75%+ votes
I'am sure quite people will quit the game too.
For example you got:
1. people who voted yes may quit aswell as they didnt get what they expected.
2. people who voted no and they quit afterwards thinking that old school will stay on the wrong path of updates.
This skill will definitely changes oldschool to another level so they need to be really careful what they are saying instead of mod ronan throwing out words in dev blog.

No one will miss those who quit.... People come and go and quite frankly no one cares if they quit. Big ol' ***** babies will be replaced.

JAGEX YOU ARE DOING THIS ALL WRONG!![
PLEASE READ THIS!

Add 2 skills: Sailing and Cannoneering.

Hard enough to pass 1 skill through and here you are suggesting 2 skills.... cannoneering as 'just sinking another ship' would not pass as a skill. LMAO. Your idea sucks hardcore.
