For the exploring part I'd like these underwater dungeons, aswell as islands which are randomly generated. You could maybe use other skills as well to have a small chance of finding exclusive resources such as new ores, fishing spots with new types of fish, hunt some exclusive animals for resources, search through the woods for new types of logs, herbs, seeds, etc. Which, of course, would be some of the rewards for doing sailing. Also you could encounter natives and trade with them for those/other exotic items or even knowledge about them (e.g. you need to know what to do with a new herb).
And if we also get new "normal" (not generated) areas, we could even have a few new quests. It could be everything from a very serious "master" quest with a great boss to defeat, to being a diplomate between the king of this new area and, lets say Roald of Varrock. Or just something like... The player taking some famous NPC(s) on a vacation in a very lighthearted quest. Maybe Evil Dave, that could make a pretty hillarious story!
And by the way. Will we finally get to use
bowswords
? Maybe we can discover the secrets of bowswords during the exploration part of sailing. Nothing to overpowered, but if balanced right it could be a melee/ranged hybrid weapon with some kind of unique niche. Or just a longbow which sacrifices accuracy for a hefty max hit increase. Might bring some use to the D2H, potentially! (would require that quest involving bowswords).

I don't think I fully explained but my problem with this update, it is that is going to be a skill. I don't think it should be a skill or a minigame. but I like the idea of sailing around and discovering new places. the shipbuilding part seems ridiculous though. I would very much enjoy sailing around fighting monsters finding new places and having fun sailing type random events. but I wouldn't want to sit around building boats to be able to do it. if you could simply buy different boats for different prices and maybe even have skill or quest requirements for different boats that would be fun. but building boat after boat just to sell to an npc to level up in a skill so that I can explore seems like it would be no fun at all. I am all for sailing as a thing you can do. but as for it being a skill I am 100% against it. and if you don't agree with me that's fine and I don't mind hearing it. but don't tell me my opinion doesn't matter because it is not the same as yours or because i recently started playing again.
Old School was meant for players to play the old game, it wasn't meant to advance at all. We are lucky that we get to have our say in advancing it.
Players passed the poll for regularly updates to the game which in itself means that they wanted advancement. We can go back and forth on whether to call something a skill or a minigame. We got it offered as a skill, now we should just focus on making it a worthy skill instead of going back and forth to whether it should be established as a skill or a minigame cause if that is all we do, then there will be no further progression. Lets just take it as a skill since that is how it is being offered and lets make it worth it. This thread has had so much positive feedback compared to the last developer blog. Even on reddit it is having good positive feedback. I have hope for it to pass.
Players passed nothing of the sort. We fell short (way short) of having updates at all (they just shoved that down our throat to get the ball rolling).
More 'positive feedback' in response to this blog? Hardly. Primarily, you are the one supporting it and at the same time telling anyone who doesn't to take a flyin' leap.
The reality check you're in for (rofl) is that if they polled it right now at this very moment, it would fail and FAIL HARD (so for all your efforts to silence anybody who disagrees with you you'll end up with exactly what you should: nothing).
Instead of telling peeps to 'move along' and other useless drivel, why not tell them why they should support something as stupid as what's described herein?
Oh and don't expend the effort.. I'll 'move along' when I'm good and ready and not a microsecond before then.
The people that I am telling to move along are like most of the others, saying no with out explaining why. Another thing, you must not be able to read well.

I don't agree with 'Burgh de Rott' & 'Mos le Harmless' being the top two training method locations. You should make one of those a lower level option, & increase the Wilderness dock to level 80 or 90.
There are so many unique account builds that cannot even complete 'Priest in Peril' without acquiring 11 Prayer.
That is just part of the game when people limit their account. Just like how Ironmen won't be able to do group sailing most likely. If people limit their accounts ability, that is all on them.

At least you have a reason for why you are against unlike most of the others who say no. So I'm not totally against those who vote, just those who don't state a reason behind their answer. Ive stated multiple times why I'm voting yes so I'm sure the people who vote no don't like the people who are going to say yes with a reason or yes without a reason. ha.

Besides, looks like you weren't even here since the beginning of when old school came out. Before poll systems and before polls were even a thing, they made a poll to see if we wanted updates or not. And guess what? That is when it passed and polls became a thing. Stop wasting time on Forums and go level up your account so your opinion can matter and hopefully be prepared for when sailing comes out.

To be honest though people don't need to give any reasons if they disagree especially if they disagree with the entire thing. and if they give a reason they are not asking for you to validate or discredit their thoughts or the posters themselves. you are being overly judgmental of the people posting and their posts and your making the people who post on here less likely to explain their points and more likely to defend their status as a runescape player who has a right to post on the forums.
People who don't have a reason to say no or some stupid reason, then I will judge how stupid they are all day long. Its just how life is, people want reasons. If you can't give one or its some BS reason, then of course they are going to laugh at you.
Sailing sounds a little different than I expected for the exploration and navigation aspect and I'm worried about the cost of the planks, so the cost will make the skill a bit slower to train but at least it'll be a goal to work toward.
I'm still pretty excited to try it out tho so I'm hoping it'll pass! I'm looking forward to the East too.
I posted a few ideas on page 100
here
, but a few ideas for the randoms are:
*
Saving hostages from Pirates
*
Capturing a Pirate to turn them into the authorities
*
On speak like a Pirate Day there can be Pirate themed events where you get to fight against NPC merchant ships and loot as a pirate, or help a Pirate escape from a NPC transport boat heading to prison.
*
Help get NPC survivors from a shipwreck to their destination
*
Spot Whales or other sea creatures and report the sighting to an Oceanographer to help them with the study of these creatures. The Oceanographer can be an NPC in a certain place and you have X amount of time to return to them to get the XP or whatever other reward.
*
Come across an abandoned ship and follow clues to find out what happened to the crew and/or passengers, or have it be a ghost ship and we have to help them somehow so they move on
If Sailing is passed, will it be possible to add more random explorations? Could there be a sailing captains outfit we can find to boost sailing XP? Thank you OSRS Team for all the hard work you're all doing for this!
