Your sailing level will determine how much you can explore so being a master sailor will allow you to head to the furthest depths of these unexplored caverns.

This really doesn't make sense to me; why does a player's ability to sail a ship determine how far into a cavern he/she can walk?

After all the negative comments and your still persistent enough to post more about this skill. Get out of here with this filthy waste of time. It's a joke. Focus on fixing your servers, and fixing NMZ afking-splashing. QUIT WASTING TIME ON NEW CONTENT. FIX YOUR GAME FIRST.

While you tell them to focus on NMZ afking and splashing and to fix their servers, you are making yourself look like a joke. Do you think they don't work on anything other than what they post...if so your logic is flawed cause they obviously worked on the idea of sailing without posting about it until now. They have tried fixing NMZ afking and splashing and couldn't pass the poll cause of the players so get off your high horse bud and move along.

Obviously what they are posting about is on the top of their list. Instead of these dev blogs on sailing they should have information on how they are attempting to fix their servers. Or information on how they are planning on stopping AFK nmz and splashing.. Don't call me a joke for my opinion. It makes you look like a joke.

Hi, Forgive me, i had not read all Posts this time before me. Here my ideas ( when other people have them too , i guess is worth to think about. :)

Construction, Smithing and Crafting? Ok then my Suggestion is first : Use please not used materials for the new Skill. Woods that exist and dont have any use and possible new Wood and trees. The new can be on new Islands found.

Smithing add please new rocks in the caverns for collect new materials for the sailing skill, then is worth to explore this caverns and bring the new stuff back to the ports. there with smithing skill make this heavy Canons for the ship.

New crafting materials for the Sailcloth. Possible on the new Islands can be new trees and plants to get new materials for a Dragon Sailcloth. Then bring them back to the ports and there make the process to Sailcloth.

One more time : Please NO PVP at the sea. Is difficult enough to explore all new things when ciclone and other bad things happen. How broken hull or damaged Sailcloth from ciclone result. When this happen, we should can send a ship to help and repair the first one who had bad luck on the sea.

New Islands, new plants, i suggest we can make there more farming patches. Fishing other fish at the beach and cook new meals... They can be used only for sailing skill and if People have fear the new stuff make Problems with value of normal things: the new stuff can be untradable. Normal i think is better tradable, but i know what in runescape 3 was happened when new updates was killing original items value. So i think about only use for the sailing skill and untradable.

What will happen when kraken attacks? In my view : They should drop a special material for new pots in herblore who can have different Upgrades for existing pots in herblore skill.
Not to make them pointless: To make them more strong and with using all herbs what exist till now. So we can make more valuable the low herbs we have atm in game.

I really like the idea of a new skill but Sailing is not it. To me, it sounds more like a minigame combined with a variety of existing skills (Construction, Smithing, Farming) and RS3 skills (Dungeoneering, which IMO hardly is a skill in the first place).

I wanted to be persuaded by this but I find myself dissapointed in what you're suggesting. Also you've massively ripped off ideas from Zelda: Wind Waker.

Such a shame.

You must not read often cause they have posted blogs before on how they are looking at data and how it is affecting the game with xp rates and etc. They have polled twice (I know once for sure) on removing it and it failed the poll. You know what happens when things fail the poll multiple times? They move on. Just like you should.

PVP will be there, but already has been said that it will be like the wilderness and completely optional.

Ripping off ideas from other games? I'm sure Zelda probably got the idea from somewhere else. Said before, it's no where near like a mini-game and if you want my reasoning, go a few pages back and read.

Yes, Dungeoneering is a mini-game. The way they did it, was poorly. It was a skill inside a mini-game.

Managing ships would be building them and then maintaining them. Whether its maintaining it by repairs/upgrades, etc...or maintaining it while exploring.

I don't think it should be called sailing as sailing is one concept.
I think it should be called Navigation/Exploration and others have said the same.

A few of us earlier suggested that you don't get sailing xp by building ships, but crafting, con and smithing xp. And keep the sailing xp for exploration and navigating the routes.

Okay so I'm glad you're not a jagex purist and think everything in the dev blog is the best.
Personally I'd say that managing ships, building and maintaining them would be a really interesting and fun construction expansion.
And I'd say exploring with a ship could just be a form of minigame or raid, mostly because it's so self contained.
None of the ideas in this dev blog require the need for a new skill, and I'd love to see the ideas come into the game, potentially on zeah, but not with a new skill

Also if you change the name of the skill does the concept behind it still make sense. For example the exploring skill and the nagivating skill sound so so vague.

I just really think people have an attachment to sailing as a skill however it's not easy to implement as a skill but a variety of other content. If we want a skill that much then i'm sure we can come up with something better. Heck, I think artisan had a better concept than this.
RIP Forums :(
Finally we have signatures in the surprise forum update. I'm Lewis, I play Old School & I've been playing since 2005.

I would love to see a variety of bosses you encounter at the end of your adventure as a way of completing the journey. These bosses should require knowledge/skill to defeat as a certain tactic yourself or your team would need to engage in, in order to defeat the boss successfully.
Ex. a boss where you would need to take out its armour with a pickaxe in order to do significant damage on his health (we saw this in dungeoneering). Other tactics such as luring a boss to a specific location for maximum effectiveness or even having a dynamic environment that you could use to your advantage or lead to your demise.

Excellent work ! :D very excited, Dragon Cannons?! Going to be so awesome.

Honestly i hope the community realise how fun this skill will be.

Also i think it's fair to Give credit where credit is due. Props to the osrs team for taking the time to post individual Dev blogs on different aspects involving this new skill. Great to see the dedication and passion going into this.
