Isn't it funny how t90+ weapons and discontinued rares start crashing after runepass and osrs mobile beta update? Thinking...

And bonds went up... hmmmm.... > )

But frankly, what do you expect them to "address" at this stage? They said Ocean Bounty is an EXPERIMENT. Nothing is concrete at this stage. The only thing any Jmod said was no TH promotion the first week of Ocean Bounty, and added "no. it doesn't carry into the 2nd week". They are doing everything as they said. They said nothing else regarding TH whatsoever. So nothing there to address.

Don't worry about new games. Half baked "new" games coming in months won't make a dent into RS.
Agreed, as we all know, no "new" games have an existing playerbase that's so invested in the game that they'll stick around through maximum extraction schemes. Jagex already has their target audience on RS3: people that accept MTX and play into them. Those people aren't leaving, so how would a new game be any threat?

Runescape has been said to be "dying" for at least the last 12 years, and Jagex is actually making more money, and membership count is recovering nicely too from the low 600k marks a few years ago. That's because players are getting used to MTX, particularly the new ones will actually find RS cheaper than most other similar games because they can earn most of the stuff in RS through Bonds.
As we all know, Runescape is alive and well in OSRS, which accounts for 66% of members. Mobile soon, boys.

Its a good thing that I was not talking about a new game. I know that new games take time to build up a player base. But the games on the horizon that are established and receiving an update will be a threat. Mostly because people will flock to anything to get away from Jagex and because they are " protesting" the current game.

I wish that was true. The only game I can see these people flocking to is OSRS.

RunePass really isn't much different from other mtx updates we get in this game. To make full use of this update and get access to all rewards you have to pay 400 RC. Did you ever visit SGS, all those sets & items you find there have a price tag where you have to pay in RC. When it comes to TH promos that offer unique items, in order to get all of them it requires dozens of keys, not just daily and I don't know 10 earned keys.

What we have now is nothing truly new from the aspect of mtx. It's neither something OP, it's just another mtx update that may look differently but in reality doesn't require more payment than others. You can even use bonds like you can with the vast majority of paid extras (promos, SGS etc.).

It's not about RunePass, it's about MTX. This is another MTX complaint thread like many others.
Feel free to take a look at my suggestions: 200m xp prestige

Very thoughtful and well-written post, OP.

For myself, I avoid MTX entirely - I quit completely for 2 solid years after they started selling Squeal spins, and while I played obsessively prior to that time, I play only intermittently anymore.

Much of the game has moved beyond my reach in terms of accessibility, between falling far behind other players who were once peers or inferiors in terms of overall experience and game knowledge, the changes to the combat system, and of course, MTX boosting in all of its many forms.

In addition to content which is inaccessible for those reasons, I deliberately avoid everything I view as even tangentially related to an MTX mechanic(despite grudgingly noting the merits of certain content, such as the purpose bonds serve in combatting botting).

As a result, my gameplay experience is significantly deprecated from what it once was, but there are enough areas of the game that still provide me with some enjoyment to keep me logging back in every so often - despite the intrusiveness of some of the MTX mechanics, most notably treasure hunter.

I'm all for any changes which will mitigate or remove that intrusion and allow me to play in my own limited way without being reminded of the reason I quit completely for so long.

Thank you for continuing the resistance against MTX, and thank you for presenting your case in a more tactful and diplomatic fashion then I believe I was ever able to manage. Hopefully, some good comes of it.

If you are talking about Battle Royale games like Fortnite and PUBG they are threats to every other game, but even so they are less a threat to a game like RS which has a small PvP community. I don't think RS players will rush over to Fortnite to chop tress or pretend to be a rock or barrel. :D :D :D

If you are talking about the almost sole MMO this year like Bless... well, God BLESS you!!! :D :D :D

again i have no problem with sgs or th, to many like me this is not about mtx, we are fine with mtx, some parts of mtx are a slap in the face buying content, but overall we don't mind mtx.

"it" "is" about runepass specifically. runepass sets a precedent to create content in which paying members are excluded from. runepass is a membership, a premiere gold membership is f2p . this is wrong on every level.

creating a manipulation in which it costs 40$ every 2 weeks for basic content to be completed is insane.

i have 2 billion gp, i will not line "jagex pockets with xtra cash with my gp.

if it is not about runepass, then it is about the mindset and attitude towards paying customers.

again, it is about runepass, specifically runepass, yes the last straw for mtx haters, but also, a wake up call for non mtx haters.

To be honest this is their last chance. They can easily sell multiple cosmetics on solomon store and runepass and make the same amount of money if not more. You can't just max all players doing nothing they will quit at some point. Th becomes useless once you are 5.4b. I need my blue charms back.

Practically, if too may players are "maxed", there can always be new things implemented easily. New level caps, new gear, new skills and a lot more.

There are always a lot of gamers or potential gamers in this world of 7 bil+ people.

And you certainly forgot Jagex can put anything in TH, not just xp stuff. They can put cosmetics and super duper gear too. :D :D :D

You can tell from the people in game forums and blogs post about "leaving" for other games then and now that they actually have nowhere to go. These people used to give other people a bunch of games and said this and that were no MTX but now they say "Amazon is no MTX, RS is dead because of MTX" or "Netflix is only subscription, RS should be too". Guess why they don't give names of other games anymore? Guess why they don't go
PLAY
Amazon and Netflix? :D :D :D
