I've been meaning to reply for a while but am in the middle of moving so will post a longer response later.

Just posting to add that the elder god quest, the only known planned intermediate quest of the year, has been delayed.

Oh joy... what's the source on that, if you don't mind my asking?

Mod Kelpie, here is the quote.

Original message details are unavailable.
Sixth Age Quest has recently started development. It will be released later than October I am afraid. As the year progressed, we realised we needed to shuffle our schedule around a bit. So some projects were moved forwards. This was done to ensure projects had the resources they needed and therefore would be quality updates.

Thanks
Mod Kelpie

It was a response to a thread about player poll results that had yet to happen. The whole quote is in the poll feedback players if you want to read it but here is the section about the elder gods quest delay.

I cant see any other posts about it but have asked in the lore livestream thread so hopefully it will be answered. I was sceptical as soon as I hear the Halloween event would be quest like, just seemed a quick way to boost "quest" releases and I doubted there would be a month with two quests. I fear what this will mean for the Zamorak quest.

Well, now we know.

What would be the ideal number of quests per year, realistically (or as realistically as you can get without being part of a game developing team) speaking?

I think, to match the quality of today's quests (and yes, that includes the pretty graphics and such; because a very large amount of people- some of whom might not have enjoyed questing otherwise - enjoy it) a realistic yet still good number would be something like 8-10.

Sure, I'd love a quest every month, but I don't think that's happening - or will most certainly lead to rushed quests.

Also, they have to be careful when delaying quests, because otherwise they have even longer gaps between quests, and people complain about that to. Of course, if they told us they were working on one and had to delay it due to quality reasons, I probably wouldn't mind as much, but that's just me.

I don't think anyone here is expecting a jump back up to 20 quests. I would say around 12 would be ideal, one a month or around there.

The main problem is a lack of conversation on the issue. 2013 was disappointing for quests, Jagex itself stated that, and this year isn't better. But why? Quests are being rushed already, the elder gods research quest has just began production and is set for November. The Zamorak quest was polled despite being promised for end of 2014 release and questions I asked on its status ignored.

I don't recall them promising us anything. I recall them saying what they were planning on doing, but I take all of those statements with the same disclaimer that they put at the end of each BTS - "plan, not promise"

I don't think they've ever said " We promise Zammy quest this year."

Also, given how many people ask them questions daily across various platforms, you can't always expect your questions to get answered....

We were told 8 was the satisfactory amount from Jagex. 2 years in a row without the satisfactory amount. I view it as unsatisfactory and my thing is they have to try for 12 in a year as in actually put 12 into development that have a chance of finishing and if 1 or 2 of them don't end up getting released till the following year so be it.
