Before the names are released, we'll send them an e-mail (if they don't have one registered, they won't get an e-mail) letting them know what's going to happen. When they log back in, they'll be prompted to change their display name, if the old one is still available, they'll simply be able to select that one again.

Perhaps if some accounts don't have an email, then a message could be sent to their message centre? Some I believe log into forums, not the game, so add a

Definitely add something which prevents any account which has been created within last 30-60 days before the name was released, including members, from being able to get it so people don't just horde names again. This would make it so those who have been watching an inactive display name (which meets the criteria for release now) for 7 years can get a chance at it.

I'm glad Jagex is finally getting around to making this change but it puts a Band-Aid on the real problem here rather than fix it. There's still hundreds of thousands of names that are being hoarded and sold by RWTers with little to no effort on their part. In fact life's just become easier for them since bonds are so easy to get.

Is there a plan to stop name hoarders? I'd rather name releases happened after a new system was put in place to deal with them. Unfortunately simply needing membership won't stop name-changing bots (they still exist) and also won't stop people from sniping names so they can sell them or even worse, just collect them for no reason.

Someone else suggested making it so someone can only change their name after 3-6 months of the account being active. I'd say stretch that even further...over a year.

The names we release aren't available for new accounts, they're only for members.

As a non-member, would I be able to change my name by using a bond, or would I have to subscribe to members before I could change my name?

These soon-to-be released character names will only be available for members. You're best to use a Bond to get membership and, assuming you havn't recently changed name, you'll be able to grab one.

You mentioned you'll be releasing a list of names that will become available over the coming weeks, will it be posted on the main page or will it be on the forums?

I'm interested in the name "Nogin" - can you tell me if this name was previously owned.

Also, I think you should have a high-level f2p exception (for example 1k+ total level).
