Can you please (as a veteran) step out of your reminisant ( reminiscent) days of 2004 - 2007 and for once welcome progress (which other games have had for years now), and RS is falling behind just for the reason of your nostalgia. I myself started RS in 07 - have the stats to prove it and don't even start going about the newer generation, because all you "veterans" who quit the game or are at a long break, just show up here to demote ANY change that could benefit the game for the future generations. Fact is that newer gene**ration leads the way as it should, if it wasn't so we all would probably still be living in the 80's.
But overall I don't think it's worth arguing with a stuborn ( stubborn) veteran who won't accept change. So I suggest you log in as soon as possible, it would be a shame to see your name taken.

Judging from your significant spelling errors I don't even know if I should take you seriously. This game has become such a joke these past few years, I barely even care if they take my name anymore. I just wanted to state my point.

FYI, Runescape is falling behind and dying because they changed things in the game which got people addicted to it in the first place. I played until 2010 until I stopped playing frequently. And even then they already changed so much of the game I was getting sick of it.

The changes they've made to try to modernize themselves ending up failing, proof? A significant portion are members just for OSRS. And they constantly bring back classic armor looks/weapons for the micro transaction store and they even bought back classic combat in the form of legacy combat. What more proof do you need that even Jagex themselves realized their mistakes and are slowly trying to make up for it.

What the game needed was just frequent new areas/quests/skills in RS2, not a entire new game that tries to be something it's not.

It's one thing to clear names from accounts that have no stats, or haven't been on in since RSC or RS2, but to actually take names from players who have stats even in the 99s but log on in very infrequent intervals?

Talk about an obvious money hungry move.

Done.

This is an INTERNATIONAL game, and please take into account that not everyone speaks fluent English. I'd like to see you speak my native language.

Then go play 07, Jagex gave you a choice: RS3 or 07, Legacy or EOC. What's the big deal here? But as you said, you quit way before RS3 was released, so obviously the updates (major ones) didn't seem to play a role in your decision.
The game is maybe dying (or not), I'd like to see statistics on that. But you still instead of trying to improve the updates/content being added into the game, complain on how the game is crap, how old was better etc.

I would like to end the discussion here because it is indeed turning into an argument. But please understand, by complaining you're not making anything better, instead try suggesting a few improvements on the topic. (ex. maxed/10 year old accounts should have have the right to lock their name and cannot be taken by anyone in the future).

I quit the game in 2007 and had no intentions of ever playing again.

I came back in 2010 and have been playing ever since. If I returned and found my name forcefully taken, that would have ****** me off and I wouldn't have stuck around. I would not be playing today, and Jagex would be down one customer. Surely I'm not the only one this applies to?

The simple solution: Do not free names that have ever had a paying subscription.

Of those 50 million names they are going to free, I doubt more than 500k have ever been members. So go ahead and free up the other 49.5 million names, but protect those 500k. They are potential returning customers.

I have mixed feelings about this. I have many friends that have gone inactive and I'd hate to see their "unique" name in-game only to find out it's not them. At the same time, though, I understand that the game evolves and people move on. But can you make exceptions to this "two year rule?" For example, someone who is maxed can keep their name? Or has a 200m stat? Their history shouldn't be in someone else's hands.

Anyway... Good luck everyone. :) But whatever you do, Jagex, DO NOT CREATE A LIST AND POST IT. LET PEOPLE FIGHT FOR THE NAMES THEY WANT.
Blood will be shed.

I say the list should not be made only due to the factor that with programs that search for names will launch them to people who have multiple member accounts that are actually bots or something like that and it would be an unfair advantage to the rest of us who have ideas of what names we may wish to try and get. It should be allowed that we search for them ourselves and the name change update happens and you release a post saying the name changing may begin but with little detail othewr then hunt for names.

Can people not see that name cleanups need to happen? Its hard enough to find an available name as it is let alone in 5+ years when the only names you'll be able to get require a whole bunch of numbers.

Yes i agree that people who have been inactive and come back will be upset and may not even want to play because their name has been "stolen", but they cant expect to leave for 2 years and come back and everything to be the same again.

And about having a total skill level to be able to take advantage of this feature is rather silly. "I'm maxed therefore i'm better than you".

This.
Too many accounts have been created then just left abandoned cuz some people have no interest in the game.

Go forth with the name clean up Jagex.

There is a specific name I want, and when I look it up on the Adventurer's Log, it says the account either doesn't exist or hasn't been logged into. What will happen with the names of these accounts? Will they be "cleaned" out in this update and made available? The requirements for the name to be reset is 2 years for P2P and 6 months for F2P. What happens if they've never logged in, but created the account a long time ago? Will the name just be locked forever? (which isn't fair) I know that this is not a new account, as it has been like this for a while. A reply from a mod would be great for me to find out if it's worth trying for.

Many thanks,
