Haven't been in for nearly a year due to real life intruding. I do plan to return, so I thought I'd best log in after I got that E-Mail about the Accounts Cleanup.

Right now, personal matters are keeping me from taking the necessary time to get back into the game, but as General McArthur once said, I SHALL return.

:)

This! ^ Hope to see you rejoin the game one day. :) Glad your name won't be taken.

One of the good things about the update is that mule accounts are likely to use throwaway/disposable emails, or emails which their owners will never check again.

You would expect people who have old accounts with 'good' names, ones that are perhaps their login names, would have used their main/primary email account for that account, so they are likely to be aware of Jagex's plan to release their name, and if they really care, they can login to stop it.

This game is well over 13 years old. Are you using the same email you were using 13 years ago? I'm not.

I quit the game in 2007 and had no intentions of ever playing again.

I came back in 2010 and have been playing ever since. If I returned and found my name forcefully taken, that would have ****** me off and I wouldn't have stuck around. I would not be playing today, and Jagex would be down one customer. Surely I'm not the only one this applies to?

The simple solution: Do not free names that have ever had a paying subscription.

Of those 50 million names they are going to free, I doubt more than 500k have ever been members. So go ahead and free up the other 49.5 million names, but protect those 500k. They are potential returning customers.

ummm ok.

slight panic.

my f2p account, which i have not been able to log into in years and jagex won't help me recover the login for, has a name that is very similar to my current one.

so yea, now someone is going to start posting with a name like mine and its because jagex decided to mess with people and never responded to my messages and emails to recover my f2p account.
Arguing with me is pointless.

Something I've thought of is..
by saying log in within two years or six months to keep a name active, does logging into the website count, or does one have to log into the actual game itself?

You didn't even have to register your e-mail on runescape before like 2010. And yeah I'm still using the e-mail I created 11 years ago, which is my first e-mail.

I don't think I had an email 13 years ago, but yes, I am using the same email I created this account with (well, I have a username as opposed to an email, but my point stands).

It's surprisingly not 3001xxsnipequickx0pe3@. It's quite sensible. ;)

When friends change their names, it is difficult to remember who they originally were, especially if you stopped playing for some time and start playing again. Is there some way you can introduce a history sort of thing for their names, which can tell us their original and other names, if necessary? Doesn't have to be in-game, but it'll be very helpful (I'm sure I speak for some other people about this problem, even though I may not be expressing myself clearly). Thanks :)

They've added the ability to right-click someone on your Friends List and add a note. If there is someone that changes his or her name very often you could write down a note that tells you who the person is. :)

Thanks :) To be honest, I forgot you could do that. But there may be some cases where you have to ask a friend, in essence, 'Who are you?' which is always a little awkward. But thank you again, I'll start doing that from now on :P
