I expect a lot of Mod-hugging went on at Runefest to get this completely disinteresting title off the ground.

The way I read it, an individual only needs to have a Wiki account for 2 weeks to be come eligible? B'wahahahaha. Title already rendered worthless.

I've been using Rune HQ and Tip.It since 2005. They get .... uh, nowt.

@Wilf, I hope my reply helped understanding the content of this thread better. Borrowing a line from Sharkespeare's Hamlet, but putting a present day twist to it, 'there is a method to my madness'... :D

I went back through and read it all so all caught up.

The complaints about giving the title to rs wiki admins should have been expected and as such have a prepared response to allay these concerns.

My opinion should have been all or nothing.

Ooh, ooh, does this mean I get the title. I contributed a lot to the Darkscape wiki when it was running and the RS3 wiki.

Seriously though, this title shouldn't even exist. And leaving it in the hands of players to decide who gets it, worst idea Jagex has ever had.

@FiFi La Frou, Hi, some people are saying that is where the initial conversation about the title happened & where the wikibromanc may have started between the editors of RSW & Mod Shauney. I personally don't know that for sure, it is only something that I have heard some people were saying.

It did appear that they intended to meet up at Runefest from what I read on Reddit though. (Notice the OP's Reddit flare).

The jump to lua excites me, I imagine it'll become more optimised?

Also the dark mode is going to be awesome, I use it on all the programs I can, so useful :)

Thanks for taking the time to post /u/Gaz_Lloyd, love seeing what you all get up to, hope to see you at Runefest!

Quoting OP: 'There's still almost 1,000 items for which we don't know disassembly status - if they can be or not, and if so, what they can give. If you happen to have any of them and access to Invention, a simple Analyse cast (plus knowing your junk reduction) is enough to give us the basic info needed.'

RemindMe! 3 days "If not spoken to Gaz and RSW team at Runefest, find out how this is going."

[END]

Runefest has gotten a reputation from what I have read on social media & RSOF where these types of things tend to happen that may at the time seem like a good idea but sometimes turns into a scandal later on. Some of the past Runefest have had a few scandals that have included Pmodship being given to attendees, a bot website owner hired as a Jmod, just to name a few.

Yes, it appears that 'Nominees, nominators, and commenters should have a wiki account of at least 2 weeks old'. When the thread opened up for discussion this was what was outlined initially in order to establish who could 'qualify' for the title in addition to the account being at least 2 weeks old.

Initial Qualification Discussion:

* Level of contribution to 'qualify':

Literally none
Minimal - 10 edits as a token contribution?
Casual editors with 100s of edits?
Dedicated editors with 1000s of edits?
Very dedicated editors with 10s of 1000s of edits?
Admins only?

* Method:

Just ask
Simple recommendation
Short UotM-style Y/N vote
More intense RfA style

This is what they ended up with:

Users should have helped out the wiki in some way, for example:

[A] * many edits
*high-quality or high-profile edits
*project involvement
*community interaction
*generally helping out

Method:

* Users may not nominate themselves

* Nominations should:

(1.) include a description of why the user should be awarded the title
(2.) use the usual support/oppose/etc comments with optional reasoning
(3.) run for one week

So the process that was chosen by RSW uses a ambiguous minimum standard as the qualifier *but* subjects the nominee to a one week long public support/oppose process.

It is pretty obvious why an ambiguous minimum standard qualifier was used. However, when a nominee is subject to a public support/oppose process it often turns into mudslinging. Such is sadly what appears to be happening from what I have read on the RSW Batch Nominations so far.

I haven't found anything published that indicates how many 'supports' that someone would need since there isn't much in the way of transparency about this part of the 'process'. I did read that some of the process was decided on Discord/Teamspeak in lieu of discussing it in a thread so maybe that was discussed there since I didn't find anything written about this.

Anyway, here are some of the 'oppose' reasons why someone might not receive the title even though they may be an active contributor on the Wiki for years but may not be 'liked' by someone within the community. This presents a problem especially if the person who is opposing the nomination has their friends join in opposing the nomination too. [*]

EXAMPLES

Oppose - Does good work for the [EDIT], though has some personality issues and is prone to conflict with others over trivial issues.

--

[*] Oppose - You've made a great deal of contributions to the wiki but the community interaction side of things isn't so great. You're very active in the clan but you've created numerous problems there with your bad attitude. When it comes to other editors you can be very rude and unconstructively negative about their contributions. I'm not comfortable with you holding the title when you behave in a way that conflicts with how we expect editors to behave.

[*] Strong oppose - Per [EDIT], who makes some very good points
--

[*] Oppose - He sucks

[*] Oppose per ^

--

Support - Striked out, changed to oppose

Come to think of it, aren't you still perm banned/muted in-game for trolling Mod Mark's fc? Changed my stance to oppose for now - we're trying to build a better relationship with Jagex and the way you've behaved previously isn't going to help with that.
--

Oppose - User barely involved with the wiki. I count 58 mainspace edits.

Not yet - You seem to be on the right track, but as ^ points out you haven't made that many edits yet. I'd like to see some more contributions from you before you gain the title.

Oppose - Per others - this is the first time I hear the name.

Neutral/Soft-support - Exactly what [EDIT] said. Haven't seen you in-game nor talked with you but it's clear that you know your s**t.
--

* Oppose - Good work on the wiki, though not a very positive member of the in-game community. Prone to outbursts, overreactions, and general negativity when in interactions with others in the cc and discord. Doesn't represent us well

* Oppose -

* Oppose - When she gets mad, it makes everyone around her uncomfortable, and can not take a joke at all. I would say when she does not get offended by every little thing then sure.

There are more examples that appear to get more personal in their contempt for the nominee but I am sure that the examples that I have provided are enough to highlight how a support/oppose process can turn into mudslinging real fast.

MOD SHAUNY NOMINEE

In the Batch Nomination I found that Mod Shauny was put forth as a nominee too. This kinda bothered me since he is after all a Jmod. Of course his nomination for the title is going to be supported. Should he have been part of the nomination process? IMO, no & the nominator should of known better.

I feel sorry for the guy who knew his s**t & had 55 edits but wasn't really known or hadn't been seen in-game, reasons given as to why his nomination for the title was being opposed. (His edit count showed 55 & Mod Shaunys showed 10 btw).

Support - Support - This feels ironic.
Support - lol
Support - It'd feel wrong if we didn't
Support - pls

8 additional supports

This is why we can't have nice things...

'I've been using Rune HQ and Tip.It since 2005. They get .... uh, nowt.'

I use Rune HQ, Tip.It & Sal's for the most part, as well as, several of the Jagex Recognized Foreign Language Sites. I like visiting Zybez too because their forum layout is what I call clean modern block style.

Sometimes when I google something, RSW might come up in the search & I will visit there, but it is not the first place I go to.

Tbh, the first place I go to before I google anything is, you guessed it! RSOF! I check the forums before I go anywhere else & while I am here, I also check the chat threads since there is usually chat about an update on there.

I am with you, disappointed to see that the fansites that have been around much longer than RSW have to wait to get the appreciation title too. Sad.

I am sure you read though the Patch Notes | 5/12 thread, Qfc 15-16-394-65857386 discussion. It was interesting to see that the replies that were in opposition to a appreciation title being awarded to RSW first for reasons similar to ours or even simple concerns about how the title was being handed out appeared to be brushed aside. Idk if they were wikians or not, but some people were saying they were. I did send out a invite to the editors of RSW on that thread, just in case it was a wikian & they could pass the message along, to join our discussion here on this thread since that thread will be unpinned soon.

OMG!
