Petitions like this are cute, but ultimately futile, for one simple reason: gamers, including RS players, have no backbone. It's easy to say that something upsets you, but if you don't perform any concrete action to truly demonstrate just how upset you are, you won't be taken seriously.

In this case, the only language Jagex understands is money: if you tell them you're upset about forums being shut down, but you still keep paying for membership (maybe even MTX) and playing the game, then guess what? Jagex will not care, because their bottom line is unaffected. Many of you probably have the 12-month premier membership subscription, which means that by the time it runs out, you will have either forgotten this or forgiven Jagex for it, because you realized that, in the end, you didn't actually care that much about the forums to warrant quitting the game. And so, life goes on as normal.

Speaking up on all avenues still matters. Even if individual attempts aren't successful, repeated demand and persistence can still make a difference. Post forums, that means talking about the forums in the surveys, on any of the other platforms you choose to be on and potentially even emailing them directly.

I find a good policy for MTX is to only buy if you feel the peopls you're paying are worth supporting with no return. Big issues like the forums you're not ready to outright quit over are the kind of thing you'd deny additional money over in addition to the scummy MTX stuff they've been doing. With F2P how it is, you might as well quit if you cancel your subscription. I think people will genuinely quit over this, either directly or from its longer term effects. Don't forget community backlash got through to them over Hero Pass.

I, Darelzel of Rs Outreach, ask that Jagex do not remove the forums.

The forums provide a valid purpose that I do not believe that Reddit can fulfill. It provides a place for long-form discussion of all the aspects of RuneScape (skillls, lore, clans), without forcing us to go to some third-party site.

Of the suggested alternatives, Discord is a chat much like Facebook Messages or (from way back in the old days) AOL Instant Message. Twitter/X only allows for short-form content, and lately has been turned into a far worse version of itself due to its new owner. Reddit is the closest to a forum, but it has its problems, too.

So I am in favor of not doing away with an official RS forum entirely, but instead upgrading it and/or creating a new, better forum.

To be honest, I think if Jagex could be swayed by a petition, they would have asked for a vote. But the fact that this petition exists might at least let people know that players are sorry they took the forums for granted.

Sadly, at this point I will probably be among one of the many older players who either will or are considering walking away from the game. The Hero Pass debacle was upsetting, but as I said before in another post, that the way they stepped up and engaged with all of us was progress for a hopeful future…and then they go and do this.

THIS is exactly why during the Hero Pass kerfuffle, I was adamant that I would never ever sign up for a yearly subscription, because I can and will vote with my wallet at any time. Customers have every right to be upset over what is essentially the removal of a service that has been included as part of our membership for over 2 decades, WITHOUT even ASKING or without even TRYING to consult with everyone as to how we could go about this in an acceptable fashion, is not OK and shows again that they have not learned but moreover DO NOT CARE about you, I, or the health of the community as a whole!

I’ve outlined several reasons as to why the removal of an official, in house forum is a bad idea. They haven’t provided an actual reason as to why they’re doing it, beyond “more people use other forms of communication”, even though so many of you in the forums here have explained at length why each one is unique and has its place as a form of community engagement. I can only conclude that the real answer is censorship. I can’t and won’t support that.

Uhh...Lord Bucket...Off, uh...Uh...

J-mods left the forums in favor of third party sites, reason being their secure and slow log in process.

Wanted their attention? Well, better sign up for whatever platform, because you're not going to get an answer on the RSOF. Hell, you'd get information from Reddit BEFORE it was on the official homepage. Jagex abandoned it long ago, and are now blaming us. For the sake of convenience.

Remember the "we want to better communicate" period? How did they do that? By splintering themselves into multiple third party accounts.

If only there was a simple, centralized area where you could do any of that, like the forums.
