Petitions like this are cute, but ultimately futile, for one simple reason: gamers, including RS players, have no backbone. It's easy to say that something upsets you, but if you don't perform any concrete action to truly demonstrate just how upset you are, you won't be taken seriously.

In this case, the only language Jagex understands is money: if you tell them you're upset about forums being shut down, but you still keep paying for membership (maybe even MTX) and playing the game, then guess what? Jagex will not care, because their bottom line is unaffected. Many of you probably have the 12-month premier membership subscription, which means that by the time it runs out, you will have either forgotten this or forgiven Jagex for it, because you realized that, in the end, you didn't actually care that much about the forums to warrant quitting the game. And so, life goes on as normal.

It's a similar situation to coming across a barking dog: initially you might be afraid of a dog that aggressively barks towards you, because you fear it'll attack you, but if you keep running into the dog and it never attacks you, eventually you'll get used to the barking and dismiss it as nonsense. That's how Jagex sees its playerbase: people always bark about various issues, but they pretty much never bite. The closest thing to a bite was the whole Hero Pass fiasco, but even then people calmed down quite easily.

I would love to be wrong about this, but history speaks for itself, and it says nothing will change.

I, Kateri (formerly Kateri690), ask that you do not remove the forums.

My reasons are as follows:
1. Players under a certain age may not have Twitter or X
2. Some players do not want to create accounts on said social media, or separate accounts on these social media places, to have a separation between their real lives and their gaming identities
3. As many players have said, it is easier to organize ideas and feedback on a platform such as this whereas the other platforms simply don’t offer this ability.
4. Certain threads see a lot of activity, but perhaps not as much posting such as the Penguin Hunting thread, and the discontinued items threads. Perhaps I can’t afford that partyhat today but it’s nice seeing players who can having banter and discussions about price negotiations! Also given that these are items that likely aren’t bought and sold everyday it’s still a good way to connect buyers and sellers.
5. Nostalgia. Stop trying to pretend you are a brand new, ultra modern game! You have a past, you have a history. Maybe younger players would be fine without the forums, but you do have a large number of active players with 10+ year old accounts who PREFER forums as a means of community engagement over other alternatives.

Thank you for taking the time to read my arguments and while I’m not hopeful, I will say I’ve appreciated my time here in past and present. It is true I’m not as active or engaged as I used to be. But I’m also not a hopeful young person anymore either. I wish I could say that the removal of the forums didn’t make me feel as an older player that I’m being told my time and experience has less value than the newer generation of players, but it does. I don’t think I’m alone in this either. So way to go for that Jagex, thanks.

Exactly.

(Note: I signed this petition before, so do not count my vote twice, arr!)

if forums was still popular the petition could work. We are beating a dead horse.

still there may be a 1% chance ......

please don't remove forums, I really don't want to have to go to social media for help or info

edit: I find it a bit ridiculous that your customers will have to use an outside site for discussion/sales/purchases/clan recruitment/tech help/quest help/bug help and anything else that I've forgotten.
Pleease don't alienate/distance yourself by passing the buck to those crappy toxic social media sites.

"I, mom0007, of world60pengs ask that Jagex don't remove the forums"

The loss of such a great resource, method to communicate and a link for distraction and diversion activities and organisation is terrible for the game and the community.
