I, Jared, of Old School RuneScape, ask that Jagex don't remove the forums.
On another note, I do get some level of schadenfreude from the forums closing down. Mainly the people who specifically kept their membership going continuously just so that their forum badge showed a year in the early 2000s. Very few of them actually played actively the whole time all those years, so that's quite a bit of money down the drain.
I
have
played continuously all that time though. I lost my 2004 badge by mistake sometime in 2016-2017 and haven't bothered to keep it as long as possible anymore.
The other part of the schadenfreude is the green crowns getting forced into retirement. I've been a strong advocate against Jagex's implementation of player and forum moderators for over 15 years now. Any time modding tools were gutted or the prestige of the positions were tarnished it made me very happy. It was a great day when in-game mods had their 24-hour mutes gutted to 1-hour.
To see an entire branch of the mod team shutdown (green crowns) is the best moderator news I've read in years. It's at least a silver lining to the forums closing down.
