Isn't it odd that some people get it all the time (or got it all the time) whilst others didn't?

Here, I've had it maybe half a dozen times maximum since it was introduced.

For Discord, however, I used to get it every single bloody time. It drove me completely nuts because the images that require ticking are total shite .... no if's no but's - they are shite. So small and long distance I could barely make out a 'traffic signal' or w/e the F it was they wanted.

I used to get the message that I was required to complete it because my IP address had changed. I assume that's because we have frequent very short power cuts here (rural) which momentarily knocked the router. And yet RS never gave me any issues in that regard, even a few months ago when I got a totally new router.

Or maybe that's now how it works and I'm talking out of my rear.

Since yesterday's update whenever I log into the website I first have to tick a box saying "I am not a bot" before it takes me to the log in screen. Why?? Its so annoying.

Same here - reCAPTCHA had no problem identifying me before (with the little box in the lower right corner), but now I have to provide a tick on every single login. Weird.

I've logged into the website twice today and so far I haven't had the "I am not a bot" screen. Weird O_o

... Again, the argument that people should just login to the game and then click a newspost to circumvent the reCAPTCHA is a nice but ultimately a preposterous argument which falls short the second anyone adopts even the weakest form of a proper cookie policy. I need to accentuate how there are two issues at hand, namely (a) the frustrating browsing experience; and (b) the stripped sense of privacy. That you evidently do not care about either is an opinion you are entitled to, but both issues remain valid.
Please refer to the quote you quoted yourself, or any of my other responses to this claim.
Well you are a guy who quickly jumps to conclusions, that I do not care about my browsing experience and my sense of privacy ... but on both occasions you are wrong.
The browsing-option I gave you is a fast privacy guaranteed option which suites players like me and other members of The RuneScape Community very well.
It is very easy to use and doesn't bring us into any trouble whatsoever, our privacy is well protected by Jagex. Go ahead put in your account name in your browser and see how far the account name goes, for me no hits whatsoever making me appear somewhere else on The Internet.
If Jagex weren't that keen with privacy I wouldn't have gone any further in playing this game or making use of The RSOF. Jagex do an outstanding job without any hassle and reCAPTCHA is for those who wanna spoil things and disturb The RSOF. :)
Use RuneScape and you have a smooth experience, use the heavy door with hinges and you have a tough job coming through.

I am afraid you are fundamentally misunderstanding how browsers work. When you access the forums, or your messages, or any button allowing you authenticated access, you are clicking a link. If your cookie policy is adequate---i.e. you care about privacy---it will not work. Simple.

I am surprised ... have you ever used to login into The RSOF the way I do?

So you say that the way Jagex provides us access to The RSOF through in-game links in The LOBBY, to circumvent reCAPTCHA, are all unsafe/privacy sensitive links and that those "will not work", as to how you put it?
Care to explain what I see wrong, in my way of doing so as I still do not understand?

Interestingly when I logged in just now it didn't prompt me with a CAPTCHA screen. It's probably still there though, maybe I'm just lucky enough to not have to do one this morning :P
I haven't had to do any CAPTCHAs on the RS Website since this post. Here's hoping it's gone and not just broken :P

The in-game button is a link which opens your browser, e.g. Firefox or Chrome. The link itself is of form https://secure.runescape.com/m=weblogin/s=a-(long authentication string)/.../redirect.ws?(wherever it might point). It is nothing more than a link. However, the session the link creates---what conveniently allows you to access without seeing a reCAPTCHA, or having to login once again---depends on the settings of your browser. If you seek to preserve what little you have left of your privacy online, your cookie settings will inherently invalidate the session the link attempts to create; hence why you are prompted to login and pass reCAPTCHA. Also, it is very important to accentuate that Jagex does nothing to preserve your online privacy, they merely have a login system on their website coupled with their applications.
