Caused by Adguards Annoyances Filter triggering seemingly accidentally on a third party script thats designed to do the work of captcha, Distill Networks / Imperva
Admittedly it might be seen as a fringe case of someone using none standard defaults; but given it's worked for the past several years it's still annoying to have to put an excemption on RuneScape, literally the only site this has caused me a failure on. And if there's me, there's likely more in the same scenario too, however many.
I don't expect this to be treated as a high priority for that reason, but for the benefit of Lyon & Co, I thought I'd make you aware of it.
Otherwise, it seems Jagex is augmenting the Captcha with other ways of detecting bots; however I wouldn't personally expect one to replace the other and instead they'll probably just stack up.

I suppose something might be happening; either on Jagex' end or that of a third-party. The irony with Distill Networks / Imperva is that it is painfully easy to circumvent in the first place; let alone scripts seeking to mimic its behaviour. I literally completed a job for a client the other week doing just that. I, however, have no reason to believe Jagex has purchased access to their software, so I doubt that is the root cause.

Since yesterday's update whenever I log into the website I first have to tick a box saying "I am not a bot" before it takes me to the log in screen. Why?? Its so annoying.
edit to add: I don't know if the website was updated at the same time as the game. It may just be a coincidence.

Well you are a guy who quickly jumps to conclusions, that I do not care about my browsing experience and my sense of privacy ... but on both occasions you are wrong.
The browsing-option I gave you is a fast privacy guaranteed option which suites players like me and other members of The RuneScape Community very well.
It is very easy to use and doesn't bring us into any trouble whatsoever, our privacy is well protected by Jagex. Go ahead put in your account name in your browser and see how far the account name goes, for me no hits whatsoever making me appear somewhere else on The Internet.
If Jagex weren't that keen with privacy I wouldn't have gone any further in playing this game or making use of The RSOF. Jagex do an outstanding job without any hassle and reCAPTCHA is for those who wanna spoil things and disturb The RSOF.
Use RuneScape and you have a smooth experience, use the heavy door with hinges and you have a tough job coming through.
I used to have a little white box appear on the bottom right of my screen, which was the Captcha logo I believe.
Until that little box had rendered properly, I couldn't log in. It always took a few moments to appear, maybe because my computer is old and takes forever to process things.
However, it has been missing for the last few days. Maybe they got rid of Captcha?
I wouldn't know really because I haven't had to do the damned thing for many, many months.
(Thankfully).
Interestingly when I logged in just now it didn't prompt me with a CAPTCHA screen. It's probably still there though, maybe I'm just lucky enough to not have to do one this morning
